I forgot to add that if you want a call of duty game, COD4 is the one to get. Everything after it is markedly worse.
Woops, that last post was meant for the general steam sale thread, not this one.
I forgot to mention that Monday Night Combat is also $3.75 today, which is a game we’ve been having private SDMB games for and I hope to continue. It’s pretty fun and easily worth the $4… but I should’ve mentioned this yesterday. It’s only on sale for another hour and 45 minutes. Well, grab it if you can.
The dead air campaign from l4d1 releases early for l4d2 if 20,000 people get the achievement for beating the cold stream campaign. So let’s do our part and organize some cold stream games. Just ask around on your friends list and see who wants to get together and do it… once the new (or…old in this case) content gets released I plan on playing l4d2 more.
I did my part, but I didn’t much care for it.
I’m thinking about picking up Rift. I’ve never played an MMORPG before, but I generally like fantarsy RPGs. Should I give it a shot?
OK, I posted in the wrong thread. Please ignore.
Some community implicatiosn for today’s sales. Worms Reloaded, which is an updated version with features taken from the old worms 2d games, is $5. I’ll be grabbing that and it seems like the sort of game the SDMB community could have fun with, so I’d recommend grabbing it.
Dirt 3 is $33.50, not sure that’s a big enough discount to sway people but we’ve been having fun SDMB games.
Empire and Napolean Total War (both games) plus all DLC is $10. Most people don’t play the games in multiplayer but if there’s interest I’d like to try to organize a 3v3 type game to see how it goes.
A third off is good enough for me. Now if I could just get a working mic…
I’m going to be running a Dirt 2 (not Dirt 3) game on Wednesday. I miss some of the old game modes and the old tracks, and different/more people have dirt 2 than 3, so I figure we could fill up a game and have some fun with it occasionally.
So anyway, if you’ve uninstalled Dirt 2 but want to play, get it installed by Wednesday at 8 eastern. Make sure you have ventrilo working too.
It’s almost time for the Christmas sale, so we can use this thread to coordinate buys or organize new games perhaps.
Orcs Must Die is on sale today for $3.75 (might as well pick up the maps/traps dlc packs for under $2 too). It’s single player, so it’s not very relevant to our group, except that it uses steam leaderboards. I think it would be fun if we had a competition every week with the game on a different map, and whoever could build the most awesome orc-shredding traps to get the highest score would win.
Check out the Orcs Must Die! thread.
I’m thinking of getting back into PC gaming. I’m not much of a gamer, never have been, but it seems pretty cheap and easy to grab decent games online these days, so I figure it’s worth looking into.
Is Steam easy to deal with; Is it a hassle in any way? How large are the files of a typical FPS to download (ISPs enforce download limits at this end of the hemisphere)? Presumably a Steam account on its own is free…?
I find Steam pretty darn easy to deal with. You install the client, which is quite simple, and then just select the games you want to purchase. If you have more games than space for them (which is my current state of affairs) it remembers what you’ve purchased so that you can download them at any time. Download sizes vary from well under a gigabyte for older games to well over 30 gigs for the newest games. Steam accounts, in and of themselves, are free. They got me in the door by offering Portal for free, and it was probably four months after that that I first actually purchased a game.
The Christmas Sale thread, where we can discuss games, coordinate group buys, etc.
Also, we’re going to have extra copies of the ship floating around, tell me if you’re interested. It’s an old game but still very unique and interesting. Check that link for promo information.
One of today’s achievements (where you can win gift games, coupons, or tickets into the giveaway drawing) is for Defcon, which is one of my favorite games, and very suitable for having SDMB games. So if you own it, or it looks interesting, grab it for $2.50 or the introversion pack for $5, and we’ll play later.
I just joined up. If anyone wants to play Killing Floor with a relative newb, let me know. I also do a lot of Civ 4 gaming, although I know a lot of people have moved on to Civ 5. (I’m holding out.)
I see there’s a sequel to 1NSANE now. The original is lots of fun, especially with user-made content by someone competent. Looks like GFI has continued where Codemasters left off and updated for modern computers. Could be fun for some Doper multiplayer.
I’ve been doing a lot of TF2 lately, but it seems like dopers are mostly done with that game, at least for the time being.
Come play with me!
I bought Sins of a Solar Empire on Steam for the Christmas Sale SenorBeef mentioned and I can’t put it down. I’ve been playing several hours every night lately, sort of going between the Distant Stars mod and the Star Wars and Star Trek mods. I had bought King Arthur II on Steam a while back (I think it shipped early in January) but I’ve hardly played it due to my Sins fixation. :smack: I’ve pre-ordered the new Jagged Alliance game that comes out next month, as well as a Shogun Total War DLC that’s coming out in the spring, so maybe that and some Skyrim love will get me off of playing Sins to death.

I just found out about Steam two days ago. I cannot believe I had never known/heard about that site before. I love games and am a huge gamer when I’m able to play. Sadly I haven’t had an actual console for awhile and I don’t get out of the house often enough to buy PC games at stores (otherwise I would).
Steam solves this, though…I can just get it directly from the site!
I just joined the group on there. I’ll probably send out a lot of friend invites on there now. I’m ChrisLeeNeal if you get one from me (or you can feel free to add me yourself).
Whaaaat? That’s YOU? How come you never said you were in my Die2Nite town!
