SDMB Weight Loss Club, November

My stupid cat woke me up this morning for no apparent reason. Usually she only scratches on my door if there’s a problem (like the water bowl is empty). I changed the water anyway but my alarm doesn’t go off for another 10 minutes. Stupid cats.

I’ve weighed in at 169.5 for about 6 days in a row now. At least I’m staying in the 160s however, I’d sure like to see that number change.

My husband and I bought some free weights over the weekend. I guess I’ll start using those.

Hey, Norinew did your stent come out yesterday? Are you feeling better?

OK, I’m off for my walk then. Damn cats.

It actually came out Sunday night, while hubby was still here to help me. I can do it myself, but prefer not to! And we decided pulling it 12 hours early wasn’t going to hurt anything. I’m feeling much better, thanks! Actually got some stuff done around the house yesterday!

I actually weighed in a couple of pounds down this morning! I’m right around 193 now (from a starting weight of 335), for a total loss of 142lbs. Yay!!

I’m going to concentrate on my protein and fluids this week, and try to stay off the scale, and see where next Tuesday morning finds me!

I’m currently having to re-evaluate my weight loss. I guess I am not overweight enough to healthily maintain a 3lb a week loss. This weekend I got really sick and weak, and I don’t think I had a cold or a flu. I have no energy for the gym, and have lately been getting out of breath going up a flight of stairs.

I think a more moderate 1-1.5lb a week loss is healthier in my case.

Yes. You’re in the 190s - don’t expect to lose at 3lb a week. Aren’t you near enough to goal that you should be thinking about the level of eating and exercise that’s going to maintain you, and be sustainable, indefinitely?

Talking about me, ditto on what I was saying about the pedometer - the new shoes must be springy enough that the switch doesn’t register every time. (Or else my stride has lengthened by 50%, but I doubt it.) I did a known nearly-3m walk this lunchtime and the pedo was reading barely 3.2km. :dubious:

My ultimate goal is a healthy and fit 170 by May (for my honeymoon). I would like to get down to at or below 170 (my height/weight for my build is recommended at 165 or so), once I am there I would like to slowly increase my weight at .25lbs a week rather than maintain a certain weight (weightlifting/bodybuilding, etc).

I think my new updated goal will be 184-185 range by the end of November. Much more sustainable and feasible.

Impressive! I think 252 is attainable! Congrats so far!

Woo hoo! I win by default!

Seriously, if you were feeling weak and sick, you were trying too hard. Don’t kill yourself to get healthy. But I think it’s possible to aim for three safely. It sounds like you were just not eating enough. How about doing what you were, but adding a bit more carbs?

Yes, very impressive. 27.5 in 6 weeks? She essentially gave birth three times in six weeks.

 Ouch!

Who is this “she” to whom you refer?

Um… Your twin sister?

Oh, her. The family calls her “fatty”. :stuck_out_tongue:

You must live at my house.

Norine I’m glad you’re feeling better. You’ve lost 142 pounds! That’s awesome.

I went to the gym again today–week 5 is going great–and I managed not to snack while making lunches last night. All right, I ate a single goldfish (cracker, not an actual fish) because I had the sneaking suspicion they were stale and shouldn’t be sent to school with my kids. The fraction of a calorie was worth it–they were stale, so I threw them all out.

The scale says I lost 2 pounds since yesterday. Possible, but I’m figuring it’s just normal fluctuations. I weigh myself every time I go to the gym, so I can put some number into the machine and watch it track calories burned. I love that. Then I can say things like, “Look! I’ve burned off breakfast!”

I’m hiding in your closet.

Ceejaytee, I’ve traced the posts. They’re coming from inside the house!

Never let it be said that when I decide to do something, I don’t do a half-assed job of it. I guess that I’ve somehow decided to do stuck, for some reason. I have become a zen master at it.

Lose three pounds every week in November? Hey, gaining two is a good start.

Don’t feel bad. I was 190ish at the end of last week, and 196 on Monday. I’m certain it is water weight, because I am back down to 192 today. So I am up two pounds too. (unless that is water weight too)

Of course I was eating mostly a liquid diet and only eating 1200 calories a day. So on the weekend, if I ate 3000 calories, my body stored as much as possible, with some water along with it. Screw it, I can eat 2000 -2300 calories a day and still lose 1.5-2lbs of fat a week, and this way I am not so hungry and weak willed.

Edit: I was almost BAD last night: My Fiancee came by and she wanted McDonald’s, I convinced her instead to eat subway. Still not the absolute best, but I always get a turkey sandwhich with no cheese, on Honey Oat, all the veggies and mustard. (none of that mayo crap). So all in all, about 600 calories. Ate a 560 calorie lunch and a 400 calorie breakfast. So well below my 2300 limit.

I am recovering from a staph infection on my right knee since mid October. Don’t know how I got it, but thankfully I went to my doctor who didn’t take it lightly…he immediately drained it, packed it with medicated gauze and put me on some killer antibiotics and Celebrex (for my knee joint and related pain). Not sure if it was the MRSA strain of bacteria, but he seemed to treat it as such. The hole in my knee (after draining) was about 3/8 wide and about 5/8 inch deep, and now it’s nearly closed up and healed, but I am still using Bacitracin ointment on it to keep the wound clean.

Therefore I haven’t exercised since early October and I am starting to get pissed off about it, although the weight hasn’t crept up. I FEEL like I am putting weight back on because of my sedentary state of staying away from any strenuous activity, but I don’t want to reinfect the wound or damage the area any further. Hopefully, next week I will be able to get back to the gym at least once or twice a week.

I think it’s good that you’ve given that up. I’m sure the 2 pounds is just fluctuation, and I think the Subway thing was GOOD - it’s not just about restricting calories, it’s also about fitting our eating into our life, and you made some good choices.

I’ve been not-so-bad, not-so-good this week, with a continuing total lack of exercise. I suspect I’m going to be down tomorrow morning, but we’ll see. My next big challenge is going home for 11 days - I always eat terribly at home.
