Wow, I didn’t know about either of those. I checked their website about a year ago, and there wasn’t one near me at all - I think there was one in Bel Air and one in Owings Mills. Maybe I’ll go check them out and then join the new one when it opens.
This new one is at Satyr Hill and Joppa, literally a five minute drive away.
How’s everyone doing out there?
Just ducky. Bought myself a set of bathroom scales yesterday so now I can weigh nekkid!!! Woohoo!!!
It looks as though this week I’ve averaged about a half pound a day: if only I could keep that rate for oh, the rest of the year!
I can’t believe how easy Atkins has been this time around. Maybe I want it more this time?
I’m down to 188 this morning, after what seemed like freaking ages bouncing around at 190-191-192. I think in addition to regular Atkins, I need to start watching the calories. Before really porking up, I was at about 180-ish or so for a long time, and I have a feeling that may be what my body wants to be at.
I weighed about 130 in high school, and I know I’ll never be that skinny again.
(I’m 5’4", BTW)
Does anyone else have experience with Glucovance and/or Actos? When I started the diet, my prescription for both had run out, and I was having no problem getting the taste in my mouth or turning my test strips red. My blood sugar was also quite high.
I saw a new doctor the 22nd, and go new prescriptions for both, and restarted them last weekend. Now I’m barely in ketosis, but my blood sugar is back in line, and I haven’t been cheating. Help/advice?
It’s all good here! I was losing V-E-R-Y slowly for about a month and wasn’t sure why. I started using Fitday (great website) and discovered that my calorie count was about 1000 a day, which is too low for anyone. I upped it to about 1700 or so and am losing again. As of today, my stats are:
196.5/165.5/140
I’m just hanging at my pre-holiday weight. I haven’t been super-strict with what I’ve been eating, except for making sure that everything that goes in my mouth is Atkins-friendly (although I’ve probably been eating more than I should). I’ve been having some hormonal issues that have caused my appetite to go out of control, but I’ve been staying active by working out and my new little part-time job at Curves (which keeps me on my feet for several hours).
I’m not going to stress if I’m just maintaining right now–as long as I’m not gaining, I’m ok with it. It took me years to get to my top weight–I don’t expect it to be gone in six months.
255/218/170
Well, I had a bad weekend, but got back on the wagon and I’m trying again. My weight keeps going up and down, it’s drving me crazy. The inches have been coming off, so I’m using that to stay positive.
I have been excersizing 4 times a week, very proud of that.
That is a fantastic attitude. And, you’ve lost almost forty pounds! That’s astounding!
Woo-hoo! It’s finally starting to happen! […dance of joy…]
As of this morning: 251/241/180
(PS - Is it just me, or has low carb infiltrated the mainstream now? I could have sworn I saw Whoopie hawking low carb from, of all places, Slim-Fast.)
Libertarian, low-carb is definintely going main-stream! SlimFast now has low-carb options available (their low-carb candy bars are small and a little pricey, but pretty tasty). Burger King now has big signs “Low-carb options available”. Of course, what that means is they actually take the Whopper off the bun for you, but, hey, whatever. Subway has introduced “Atkin’s-friendly wraps”. You can get any 6" sandwich turned into a wrap (a low-carb tortilla) for 50 cents extra. I’m sure that as long as businesses are making money doing this, we’ll be seeing more and more of it.
As for me, I’ve been holding steady for about 3 months now, but, like JavaMaven1, I’m okay with that, as long as I’m not gaining. Some day soon I’ll figure out what it is I need to do to get the numbers headed down again. But, frankly, I think this may be the first time in my adult life I’ve maintained at any one weight; it’s always been I’m gaining or I’m losing.
Hardee’s has a low-carb thick angus beef burger that is wrapped in lettuce leaves instead of bread. It has a mustard-mayo sauce that is delicious. They package it so you can hold it and eat it. It’s 5 grams. It’s great.
I’m still hanging in there. Last week I had a loss of 4lbs but that was due to a random stomach thing I had that allowed me to crap out everything that entered my body.
This week I gained back 2.8 of that. I knew I would gain since my loss was mostly water weight but I had been hoping it wouldn’t be that bad. It was my first substantial gain and a bit disappointing even though I was expecting it.
Hopefully I’ll lose some of that 2.8 this week and get back on track.
So far so good… I haven’t really lost any weight, but my exercise is going really well. I feel so much better than I have in a long time, and I actually look forward to working out!
Lib, this town is so small, we don’t even have a Hardee’s! But it’s good info to have for when I’m travelling.
Well, went to my first WW meeting this week. Gadzooks! 199.2 lbs!
Have counted points based in what I’ve been eating for the last several weeks, and am always over 24. Good gosh almighty, 24 is not a whole lot. Freaked out at first, but am realizing that my goal regarding WW at this point is just to keep going to meetings until the end of March. At some point, my internal competitiveness is going to kick in, and I’ll start really losing. If I can be down 1 lb. this week I’ll be happy.
My fear is, though, that my meds are keeping me heavy. I hope not. I don’t want to mess with them, as they work well.
Am hoping that the eyeball-freezing temps will be over at the end of Feb. here in Chicago so I can start walking home from the train. As it stands, I can’t afford a gym membership.
An aside: Gotta love those Hydroxycut commercials. “Yeah, I take Hydroxycut! And combined with a healthy diet and exercise, I’ve lost weight!” Like, DUH.
261/249/175-ish. Still enjoying Atkins. Mrs M is amusing herself coming up with creative food ideas, and this is making things easier for both of us. I haven’t eaten so many eggs in years, tho’ I’m now cutting down to just one at breakfast time, operating on the old French principle (*). She’s also hunting down the cheap meat offers in the supermarkets. Fast food hereabouts is less accommodating than some of you are reporting but in any case I’m taking packed lunches into work (mostly cold meat and cheese in various permutations). Missing the savoury carb snacks but making do with a daily dose of pork rinds.
The final goal of 175-odd may be pure fantasy, but it’s a nice thought.
- Because it’s un oeuf, that’s why
Malacandra, do a google for “Savory Almonds recipe”. I had some at my SIL’s house Christmas Eve, and they were much nicer than pork rinds! In fact, a couple of weeks ago, I googled it myself, and tried to post one of the recipes I found on this thread, but the damned hamsters ate it; I guess they like almonds, too
Yes, this is another Lauren’s back on the wagon post. I’m sure my constant waffling is annoying you guys - heck, it’s annoying ME.
I’ve been eating horribly and, in the past month, have actually weighed in higher than the weight I started WW at, over a year ago. Can’t tell you how happy that made me, really. Anyway, after more horrible eating, I inexplicably dropped 1.5 pounds this week. I suppose this is as good a time to start back up as any.
I’m still having trouble reducing carbs and adding protein. My house is not conducive to dieting of any kind, and it seems that we mostly survive off of carbs. I don’t do the food shopping, nor most of the cooking, by the way.
Question: how combinable are, say, WW and South Beach? I don’t want to give up WW because I think it’s a very healthy way of doing things, but I may, at this point, be willing to try something low-carb like. Won’t that be fun to get my mom to shop for.
The only positive I can say is that I’ve been doing weightlifting twice per week, cardio once and yoga once, which is pretty much my goal.
