SDMB Weight Loss Club, Number Four

I wouldn’t have been able to do this without FitDay. You just enter the foods you’ve eaten for the day, and it gives you your calorie count and the breakdown by fat, protein, and carbohydrates. It can even be set to list fiber separately so you can figure out your net carb count easily. Anything you eat that isn’t on the list of their foods can be added as a custom food using the Nutrition Facts panel off the back of the package. It’s wonderful, because I’ve stalled a couple of times and I could just go back and look at what I’d added to see what did it.

It’s true, and I’m glad for your loss as well.

BiblioCat, I will heartily second using FitDay to keep track of what you’re eating. I’ve slacked on doing it on a daily basis, but will use it maybe once or twice a week to check what I’m averaging on my carb/calorie intake. It works really well if you’re eating basic whole foods, but if you’re eating anything packaged, or a complicated recipe, it can take some time to input everything.
Bambi: Aw, shucks. kicks dirt Thanks for that, though. That will be something to remember when I’m craving something sweet (still happens for me–my sugar addiction has been very, very difficult to break). That, and the fact that I’ve dropped 5 dress sizes.

Okay, FitDay took a while to figure out, but if I did it right, today I’ve had:
Calories: 1452
Fat Grams: 99
Carbs: 37
Protein Grams: 103
The carbs are actually less, because I had one of those Low Carb 2 bars which have (according to the label), 23 carbs, but are supposedly only 2 “net carbs.” I input the label info exactly as is.

Finally, I hit the 45 pound mark this morning! I’ve been dragging my feet lately, and so for the past week, I’ve really bumped up my workouts and cutting out the ‘extras’ (keeping a tight rein on my dairy consumption–too much stalls me, apparently, and absolutely no ‘products’, except for one low-carb tortilla).

Feeling rather sassy this morning, I tried on the “proving jeans”–I could button and zip them without a struggle, but I still get a little bit of ‘belly flap’ over the waistband. Hopefully, I can get rid of that in the next two weeks, before I go on my trip to Houston.

New mini-goal: To hit the 60-pound mark for Chidope. It’s technically possible, but I’m gonna have to work.

255/210/170

Okay, so as announced here, I’m in the family way. My weight was at 190 a couple of days back, I haven’t weighed myself since. I’m going to use that as my pre-pregnancy weight, even though I did get down to 188. I hope I don’t gain too much back, I’ve worked so hard to get where I am.

Just wanted to check in and bump up the thread at the same time.

Congrats, Ginger! That’s very exciting news!

And, YAY, JavaMaven!

Well, Day Ten and I’m still here. Go me!

Replaced my old very-cheap analog scale with a shiny new digital one, which unfortunately means I have to change my stats:

197.5/186.5/130

That’s okay. I’m still 11 pounds lighter than I was! I think I’m getting a little obsessed with this whole low-carb thing, but I’m just so dang excited. Oh, well. Better obsessed with being healthy than consumed with thinking about junk food and planning my next binge.

I’m still 0 for 5 for getting to the gym this week, but (it’s a big one, pun intended) I rode my bike to work today. It’s a 7 mile round trip, punctuated by evasive maneuvers to avoid becoming a hood ornment.

Actually, most of the trip this morning was quite pleasant…

188 today! I have 2 lbs to go until I hit the 50 lb mark. Whoo!

My size 14 jeans are a comfy fit, even when I first take them out of the dryer. By the time I wear them a couple of times, they’re sloppily loose. I may be on my way to a size 12.

I also bought by ‘motivation’ last weekend- a 2 piece bathing suit, which I haven’t worn since I was 11. It’s hanging on my wall until I hit bathing suit shape. I’m determined to look hot by this summer!

Hi-

Oreo- - I think the best way to tell if you are losing fat vs. water is how your clothes fit. Also, you are supposed to measure yourself- many people report not losing weight during a week or two but lose significantly in inches. I’m too lazy to measure myself- but I did notice with Atkins that I could wear smaller sizes faster than when I weighed the same weight while low-fat dieting previously. Also, my water weight usually is between 2-4 lbs, while I think as much as 10 lbs could be water, when I eat too much salt or am in TOM , thats how much it fluctuates. I would think you are definitely at the point where you are losing fat now.

Swimsuit season is here, and I haven’t worn one for about 4 years, I’m excited and scared to start trying them on but I know I want to hang out at the pool and fully participate in the office pool party this summer. I really need to exercise- I do get in some walking while I work my dogs (sheepdogs)- in fact got a really good workout the other day when my little flock knew I had my young, inexperienced dog with me and decided to take a tour of hills without me- always right out of reach of the distance my young dog is ready to go. Sheep are smarter than they look.

185/131 (yeah!!)/ 125

Hey kids! I’ve been counting calories, and doing pretty well! My roommate says our scale is heavy (she works in a doctor’s office and compared it to the one at work), but either way, I’ve still lost about ten pounds, although it’s hard to say for sure because I was too bummed to weigh myself for a while. Since I’ve started keeping track, it’s 7 lbs.

144/137/130

But, that might not be very accurate, so I’m going to just be happy that yesterday I wore my goal pants to work! Fortunately, I now have a new pair of goal pants.

I’m in 14s now, too. I went shopping yesterday and bought some new pants, and it was so nice to be able to just grab size 14s off the rack and know that they’d fit. When I tried them on and looked at myself, that old feeling of “Shit, I’m as big as a fucking cow” just wasn’t there. I actually enjoyed clothes shopping for the first time in years.

You’re braver than me, though; I can’t get myself to buy a 2-piece bathing suit. I still need an old-lady type with a little skirt on it to hide my saddle bag thighs.

Not the greatest progress since my last post on March 1st. I’ve only lost 6 lbs. since then. Stats now 235.5/213.5/115.

Clearly I must get my butt in gear, so I’m joining Curves after work on Monday. I expect you all to kick my ass heartily if I don’t confirm tomorrow that I’ve kept that promise.

Biblio, I’m with you on the shopping. I went the other day because all of my old pants are quite literally falling off of me and my shirts are large enough to hold another person with me. For the first time in a long time, I went shopping at a regular department store, albeit in the Big Men’s section. The best thing is that there were sizes there too big for me. Usually to see that, I would have to go to the Obese & Gangly stores, where almost all the clothing is hideous. I bought actual name brand clothing for the first time in almost 10 years. It hasn’t fit me in that long.

I’ve also noticed on Atkins that I’m losing sizes faster than weight. Weighed in today too – down another three.

411/366/240

All is well on the Abbie front. As of now I’ve lost 13 pounds for the month so I imagine I’ll end March with a nice even 15 pounds gone. I want to do the same again in April.

I’m going back to the gym on Tuesday. I’ve had good reasons for not going this month, but now those reasons are gone; things have died down and it’s time to get back on it. I’ve told myself that if I go 3 times a week for the month of April, come the first week of May I’m going to get my first pedicure  I need pretty feet for sandal weather

Done deal - I’m all signed up at Curves. I’m $150 poorer for it, but the benefits I’m sure will be priceless. Speaking of priceless, how funny is it that I tried to log in as “Imperial Sag”.

Their scale says I’m 220. I want to weep.

Imperial Shag, don’t weep. 220 is a good number. The more you weigh, the less work you have to do to get the weight loss started. Besides, it’s really not that high. I was at 256, and I got down to 190 before I got pregnant. You will be amazed at how quickly the pounds go away - if you don’t eat too much more to ‘make up’ for the exercise. Are you planning to diet as well as exercise?

I know some of you have mentioned not bothering with the Ketosticks, but I bought some today anyway. I never used them before, and the curiosity was killing me.
The directions explain it pretty well, so I guess I’ll see it turn purple if I’m back in ketosis, right? (I’ve been doing a pretty hard-core version of Atkins since Sunday; as mentioned at the top of the page: all protein, tons of water, practically no carbs at all, and really watching the fat)

Did I just waste $15? Should I use one a day, or just do it every couple of days?
I’m dying to do it… I just got home from running errands and don’t have to pee yet. I’m drinking water like crazy.

Holy cow! The directions said to wait 1-2 minutes before comparing the stick to the samples on the side of the container… but it turned dark purple instantly.
So that means I’m obviously in ketosis.

That was kinda fun.
Peeing on a stick and watching it turn purple and getting excited.
God, I need a life…

I lost 5% of my bodyweight this month (7 pounds). Some pants that used to hardly zip up now feel quite nice. Putting on my pants has become a small pleasure

I’ve noticed that, too. I seem to lose only a few pounds a month, but I’m dropping inches like crazy.

I’m joined the Lose 10 Pounds In April thread (sorry, I’m too lazy to link right now  ), and I’m going to see if I can do it. I need a good push because I’m slacking.
