SDMB won't let me log out

Yes, I can’t use SDMB anymore. Yes, I was warned. Yes, I’m a second-class citizen and in the minority. However, I just wanted to mention that, if you are logged in, the new software won’t display content at all, and does not display a logout / account screen

You can clear your cookies for the SDMB on that specific computer, if you’re concerned. That is the same as logging out.

Or, from a device that can still access the SDMB, you can go to https://boards.straightdope.com/u/melbourne/preferences/security to log out the other devices remotely.

By the way, since we last discussed this, people on the Meta Discourse thread provided several workarounds (namely special browsers for older computers), if you would like to try some. It wasn’t our call – nobody on the SDMB can control what the Discourse software company chooses to do – but we’d hate to lose members. Several of us complained (a lot) on the official Discourse forum, to no avail. We tried

That thread was here: Dropping iOS 15 & other old browsers in July 2025 - Announcements - Discourse Meta

But it grew very long. The specific workarounds they mentioned were basically using special browsers just for Discourse (you don’t have to use them for any other website), like:

Keep in mind that these are third-party browsers made by volunteers, and don’t have the support of the big browser companies. I wouldn’t use them for anything else (like especially banking), but you can run them just for the SDMB.

Well, can we know by who or how you were warned?

Oh, I guess not.

I’ll defend to the death your right to say anything.

I will currently recommend Supermium over Thorium. Thorium actually hasn’t been updated, but Supermium is just using the slower release schedule from ChromeOS, and thus gets up-to-date patches.

The last few updates have in fact been quick security patches for known vulnerabilities.
