I am trying to get my FPS skills up so I can join everyone in a game of Halo or COD4. I finally got enough practice in to feel confident in my ability not to embarrass myself during a game of MLB 2K8 so that and Madden are always on the table for me.
My weekend plans can be summarised in two words, “fuck” and “all” so I’ll be on quite a bit over the weekend I reckon.
If you see me(xx yoj1mbo xx) drop me a invite etc. if you’re into a few games of Halo. I’m currently achievement hunting on the legendary maps. I’m 130 points off getting my Katana.
Maybe someone in this thread can help me with a microphone problem I’ve been having. I’m pretty new to this whole thing, so I can’t figure out if my headset is defective or if I’m an idiot (or both).
When I have my headset on the “green” switch (so it’s live), it seems to constantly be picking up background noise and indicating to other players that I’m talking, even when I’m not. I’m playing Call of Duty right now, and the little speaker icon in the upper left quadrant of the screen stays on for me all the time. That’s the indicator that my mic is picking up sound, right? Any ideas on how to decrease the sensitivity on it so that it doesn’t pick up background noise?
Also, when I switch it to “mute” (by sliding the switch so the orange/red is showing), nothing seems to change. Although if I have it on mute when I plug the headset into my controller, it seems to mute until I die, then when I respawn, the headset seems to be live again, even though I haven’t done anything to it and it’s still showing mute.
Any thoughts?
By the way, if you see me on COD:4, feel free to send me an invite. I suck, but I’m sucking less and less every day.
It sounds like it’s the headset. With regards to first-person shooters, good headphones are worth their weight in gold. I poo-poohed them until I decided to spring for a pair after I won Halo 3 in an online tournament.
Maybe it’s something in the controller? I’d vote for “headset”, though.
Speaking of which, is there some sort of open standard for the type of jacks the xbox headsets use? I was surprised to see that plugging the headset into my friend’s cell phone worked, so I’m assuming it’s some sort of industry standard in/out voice jack. Is there a name for it?
If that’s the case, I could replace my broken headset with a better quality one…
