The “About this Message Board” forum of the SDMB would provide a quicker answer, but from my limited experience, the answer is:

The UBB software is deficient when it comes to searches. The search worked for a short period with an older version of the software, but seems to be broken again with the current version (5.44a).

If you’re really curious about why it doesn’t work, you can post a question at the Infopop Message Board.
