I’d love to be there (assuming I don’t get a job that makes me work then). Gordon Biersch sounds good.
If it weren’t for the several blocks distance, I’d have suggested Chang’s Mongolian Grill up on Capitol Hill. Unless no one objects to a walk between dinner and the movie/video game portions of the evening?
Damn it! I can’t get the time off. One of my employees has a sick mother, and he has to stay with her.
Did I mention that she lives in Russia?
I’m so short-handed I’ll be lucky to get evenings off, so I’ll take a rain check on the Seattle Dopefest and try to catch the next one.
Very sorry you can’t make it, Czarcasm. I look forward to meeting you at the PNW 'Fest later this year, though.
We passed the Seattle Center-place/thingy where the Bite of Seattle is going to be. My view was partially obstructed, so I didn’t see that it’d be on the 19th as well; I thought it was just the 20th and 21st. Cool.
What do you guys think? We could tour the Bite, then head back to Pacific Place for a movie.
I don’t THINK there’s an admission fee - the website I linked to isn’t very clear on that. And as I’ve never actually BEEN there, I don’t know, either. There is a two dollar ‘taste’ item at each booth - that may be it in the way of price (could get expensive pretty quick).
I’m all for doing the bite, then hitting Pacific Place. Perhaps an initial meeting oint could be the monorail at Westlake, or at the Seattle Center Station?
Another change in plans-it looks like I’ll get the 19th through 21 off after all. If I can get ahold of my sis-in-law I can probably arrange a place to stay Friday night. What are the chances of somebody picking me up at the train station on the afternoon of the 19th?
OHHHHH [sub]holding my head in my hands[/sub]…he expects me to convert TIME!!!
If you mean 12:15PM or 6PM, I would say whichever you prefer, but if you come at noon you will get to hang out with us wonderful people all afternoon.
Of course, I probably got those times TOTALLY wrong, so once we straighten all that out then you can decide. Where in the Seattle area will you be staying?
I think now would be a good time to bump this sucker. I also have good information (I think).
In the past, The Bite has been free to get into, so I think it will be this year as well. After all, it amounts to a load of advertising for the restaurants and companies that have booths, so it isn’t really intended to make a profit from gate fees.
The “$2 Bite” thing is actually there as an antidote to how expensive the event can be. Some years, certain restaurant booths didn’t have anything for less than six bucks, and they were selling whole meals. So, you either spent way too much and didn’t eat everything you bought, or you only sampled one place. Now, they ask every booth to have at least one featured item that is small and costs 2 clams (or less, though it never does). That way, if you’re in the mood to stand in multiple lines, you can actually get an idea what several restaurants are about.
One of the fairly good deals is ‘Kathy Casey’s Alley.’ One of our famous local chefs invites a group of restaurants to each provide one item for a combined meal. They tend to be really fancy stuff (certainly the most high-tone vittles I’ve ever had off a paper plate) and rather small, but you get a great variety for one price. I found myself still hungry after I did it last year, but I’m one of those guys that doesn’t fill up easily. The price is $8, and all goes to charity (Food Lifeline). Again, the downside is the line, which can be long. Of course, Friday should be much quieter than any other day of the festival. If anyone wants to do that, we should plan on meeting early enough to get through before the ‘Alley’ closes at 7.
By the way, the ‘Alley’ is adjacent to the wine tasting. I knew some of you would be interested in that
My only concern so far is that The Bite might not be enough dinner for all of us, for whatever reason. I mean, we could do it that way, and if anyone’s hungry afterward they could grab a hot dog or something at the theater, but I’m not sure folks would be willing to do that. Is there enough (quantity and variety) at The Bite that we can tour it and call it dinner?
I figger we can do the Bite, then head over to Pacific Place for a movie. Sound good to you guys?
