Looks like things are coming together fine. Since the Space Needle has three sides, I think we need to be a bit more specific about where we’ll meet at 1:30. My suggestion is the information booth at the Needle, which is just a few feet from the northwest side of the Needle’s base. It’s between the Needle and the monorail station, so it should be about the first thing you see if you’re arriving by monorail.
I’d like to add one of my secrets to making Seattle’s street fairs and festivals less expensive to enjoy. Bring something to drink with you. The booths always gouge on the price of a Coke, because they know that everyone is getting hot and thirsty and will pay more. I’ve seen a 12-ounce can go for as much as $2. I usually bring a couple of cans of soda or a water bottle with me, so that I only have to spend heavily on things I can’t get at the supermarket. If you don’t have the chance to carry some with you, I suggest we go to one of the supermarkets on the edge of the Center and pick up a few bottles or cans.
silent_rob and I will meet with the Space Needle crew at 1:30pm, at the information booth. (KKBattousai has some job-related training to attend, so he’ll be joining us later. rob and I will be taking the bus.)
We’ll do the Bite, and with luck we’ll have time to do the Public Market. We can take the monorail for travel between the Seattle Center and Pacific Place, and can go back and forth between Pacific Place and the Public Market on foot.
We’ll meet up with everyone else at McMenamin’s (the Queen Anne one, right?) at 6pm, where we can wine and dine and talk story. (It’s just a block or two from the Seattle center, so I assume we’ll be walking there as well?)
If anyone wants my cell number just in case something happens, just e-mail me. And JayLa, if you still need that ride, please let me know ASAP.
BTW, don’t worry about picking Dopers out of a crowd. We have a way of standing out, seeing as how we tend to just stand around and look and smile at everyone who passes within 50 yards of us. Seriously, I’ve been to two 'fests so far and it hasn’t been a problem. We just look for the folks who look like they’re looking for somebody.
To everyone who can’t make it-- here’s hoping to meet you next time.
Yeah, I’ll be coming late. I’m not sure how late, but I hope it’s not too late. ::knocks on wood::
FTR, I got an email from JayLa, saying that she won’t be able to make it, as she has a prior engagement. Like, many years prior. As in, it’s her fifth wedding anniversary. (Get it, wedding? Engagement? Ha, I kill me!)
Aw, the heck with you guys. I’ll see you there anyway.
Heh. My photos won’t be very interesting to anyone, as I tend to take pictures that lack people as subjects.
I do have a great picture of that iguana, though.
We went back to the Bite today, and good god, there were fifty billion people there. And none of them knew what direction they wanted to go. There were also horses that pooped a lot, all over the place, at every opportunity.
I think it’s a good thing we went on the day we did.
I also am amused that I spent a good chunk of Thursday, Friday, and Saturday at the Seattle Center. My feet are absolutely killing me.
But it was worth it ten times over. It was a fun day, and it was a pleasure meeting all of you.
I just loved it when that woman kept trying to get the iguana to talk-“Hello! Hello! My name is Dimwitta! What’s yours?”
I didn’t go back to Free Sample Fest today, but I did go back to Golden Age Collectables to pick up a Buddy Christ for my dashboard.
That’s MY next purchase, come payday, that’s for sure.
It was really great to meet all of you, and you KNOW that we’ll have to have another one of these REAL soon (Czarcasm - you have to come over and be bored at all the changes that haven’t happened to Bremerton. )
I had a wonderful time, everyone was very nice and witty and entertaining, the weather was glorious, the food was terrific.
We wandered all around The Bite of Seattle, twice IIRC, and had dinner at a really charming pub near the Seattle Center. I didn’t get my face painted. We also “did” the Public Market, which was…as always…full of fun and interesting shops and people. Once again, I didn’t get my face painted.
The people watching was excellent too…oh, and we went to my first laserdome show…Pink Floyd…Dark Side of the Moon. VERY impressive. And we walked around downtown some also. Actually, we really did a LOT of fun things!
And I didn’t get lost finding the train station, or ANYTHING like that! (Well, there WAS that short trip down a one-way street the wrong way, but it was ONLY a block, so less said about THAT the better!)
All-in-all a full day and evening and not a boring moment to be had. Thanks for the good company, I was so happy to meet new friends and spend time with alreadygoodfriends!
Truly and indeed, it was a good time. I agree that we should do it again before the rains really hit. A ferry trip is a good idea, and I think we should do the Underground tour, as well.
Wonderful good time had by myself and the Mrs. (hope she doesn’t catch me calling her that!) I’m terribly sorry we couldn’t stay longer, but we’ve been working all day and then unpacking every night and we had to get ready for my sister’s fambly for dinner tonight.
Should this happen again, and I sincerely hope it does, you have my promise that we’ll be able to stay longer!
'Twas great meeting all of you! Incidentally, when we were leaving, the iguana lady was still there. I suspect the iguana was beginning to enjoy the conversation. Either that or he was falling asleep; it’s kinda hard to tell with those guys…
