Seattle Pub Trivia '07: The Eye of the Tiger

Aw shucks.

Next week, I’m in Boston on Monday, so I won’t be able to attend should a venue with such a schedule be chosen as alternative to OPq. I’ll be back in time for a Tuesday night gathering, though.

The Straight Dope Trivia Team, keeping E. Thorp in booze and food since 2005.

I’ve never played one of she who will not be named’s (why is Hastur running a trivia contest?) contests, so I’d be willing to try that. Or not. I’m still reeling from getting the QB rating question wrong.

While some of the rest of you are happy reconquering territory that we’ve occupied for months, inkysplotchy and I are going to tackle new territory tonight. Specifically, Talarico’s in West Seattle. (Also, Quiznight link.) 8:00, $2 per player, huge slices of pizza.

(What’s that? Ink was at the OP last night reconquering? Right. Good job, my fellow teammates.)

At any rate, any of you are welcome to join us. Saltire, I’d love to promise you a ride, but alas, I cannot.

I’ll be there

  1. How much booze were you drinking?

Go forth, conquering heroes.

Lesson learned: phone first. Talarico’s stopped doing their quiz a few months ago. (Though they may be in the market for a new querist, if anyone’s interested.)

We did have some good pizza, and I highly recommend the blackberry cobbler.

I totally got the “Would you like dessert?” question right, but the prize was disappointing.

Yeah, I got a better prize on that one.

Hey, it’s another week when generally people would rather go somewhere other than the OP. stargazer lives in Magnolia, and it would be easy to try one of the spots in her 'hood so we could meet the gazelet.

We could do Mulleady’s, which would be cool except their quiz is tonight and I can’t do tonight, nor can Cervaise. We should try it in the future.

So I propose the Boxcar, another double-the-pot pub, which has their quiz tomorrow (Tuesday) night. Anyone not up for it who’d otherwise go to the OP? (If we’re game, I may leak our plans to the Fuckin’ As and Laser Rocket Arms, just for the competition. After that, I’ll dump a silo full of pig waste into Lake Springfield.)

Hmm. The reviews on Yelp don’t inspire me with confidence for the Boxcar. I’m still happy to try it, but expect divey.

Well, with expectations suitably low, I agree that the Boxcar is the place to try this week.

I’m game for the Boxcar, but I don’t know that I can bring the baby – it’s a 21-and-over establishment, and Jonah’s fake ID isn’t ready yet.

I can bring him when we do Mulleady’s, though, or we could do a 2-stage evening – food at Red Mill Burgers, which is nearby, and then trivia at the Boxcar. Regardless, I’m planning to be trivia-ing tomorrow night, unless the kid has other plans for me.

Gah! Subscribing to this thread! I gotta get me some o’ this!

Aw, just leave him on the lawn. He’s not mobile yet.

It worried me for a moment when I saw that, but then I realized that I’m not next in line to have custody of Interrochild, so knock yourself out.

Oh, and I’m for any option that involves going to Red Mill for burgers. Just throwing that out there.

I am also pro-Red Mill, though we should also concern ourselves with getting a table – I hear the Boxcar gets crowded. Hm.

Okay, team, here’s what I’ll do for you, because I love you all. I’ll go straight to the Boxcar, and save us 5 seats. You all can meet at Red Mill, and come to the Boxcar after you’ve filled up on excellent boeuf chez Moulin Rouge.

Actually, I had a large lunch, and am finding it easy to pass on the burgers right now. I’m sure I’ll regret it later, but that’s the way it is with most of my decisions.

Yo! I’m back!

If anyone’s still reading this thread, I’m planning on an earlyish dinner at Red Mill, then joining our erstwhile tableholder at the Boxcar. Don’t want him sitting there alone all night, don’tcha know.

What time are we meeting up at the Mill?

We met yesterday, around 7pm… we were wondering where you were!
