Second Season of Chappelle's Show: Funny as Hell

I love Dave Chappelle’s stand up. I remember how excited I was when I heard he was getting his own show on Comedy Central. I also remember how disappointed I was with most of the episodes of the first season. They were a bit too over the top for me. The black white supremacist was damn funny, though.

The second season, however, has been great. The Charlie Murphy/Rick James sketch alone more than makes up for the first season. Prince playing basketball? Priceless. The Niggars? Hella funny.

What say you, Chappelle’s Show fans?

Cocaine is a helluva drug!

I kid you not, I was thinking about starting a thread about the show on my way to lunch not 3 hours ago. I don’t watch it regularly but the times I have it was uproariously funny. The segment where he had John Myer going around to see what affect guitar music had on white people, then drums on black folks and keyboards to Hispanics had me doubled over, literally. And the black white supremacist was damn funny.

Rick James: “What do you think, I just do shit like that just to do it? Grindin’ mud on Eddie Murphy’s couch? I got more sense than that. Yeah, I remember doin’ it…”

Pretty soon, Charlie is gonna need his own show.

One of the funniest shows on TV right now…if not ever.

I have screamed out, after doing something ignorant-
“I’m Rick James, bitch!”
And I always recieve those familiar blank stares mixed with hostility…

This show slays me. I had been somewhat familiar with Dave Chappelle before this show (mostly from the movie, Half Baked) but I had no idea he was capable of the kind of creativity and devestating wit he demonstrates on the Chappelle Show.

Some of my favorite sketches include the afore mentioned black white supremacist, the reversal on “the Real World,” (white guy in a house full of black people) and the sketch where Chappelle goes to visit a Make-A-Wish kid in the hospital and ends up trash-talking him while kicking his ass at video basketball.

I also love the promos where he reads letters from outraged viewers.

From the letter: I can’t believe you would let such an obvious racist on the air!

Chappelle: I didn’t realize I was making it that obvious.

Man, Bloomberg is fucking up.

“What did the five fingers say to the face?”

“SLAP!”

“Mmmm, mud butt.”

It’s a great, great show. The Rick James bit had me in hysterics. As for his being a racist? Er…to who? He mocks black people more then he mocks white people. If anything, that real world segment was one long joke at black people’s expense. I think he is happy to offend everyone.

thetravisty.com has pts 2 and 3 of the Rick James story, as well as the Prince story, and several other skits up right now

The funny thing is, those five words explain so much.

The ‘Trading Spouses’ bit is a classic example of that. Both the white and black families are complete and total racial stereotypes. (Particularly the fathers - both played by Chapelle.)

(Interesting sidenote: Apparently, while Chapelle might have thought he was just making a joke… such a show does exist. Only a matter of time.)

F### yo couch, N####!
I was dying. I was a big fan last year, but I agree that he has turned it up this year.

Everyone who’s seen the Rick James thing has loved it. It is definately going down as Classic TV.

I love the Samuel Jackson sketches.

Customer: Yes, I’ll have a Samuel Jackson
cuts to Chappelle looking like Samuel Jackson dressed as Samuel Adams

Samuel: MMMMMM MMM BITCH!

Customer: Can you please stop yelling?
Sameul: NO! THIS IS HOW I TALK!

I loved the Rick James and the John Mayer skit. But what had me in hysterics was the Racial Draft. Absolutely perfect, from the ESPN music to the pointless commentary. The dude doing the ultra-black guy negotiating with Dave Chapelle as the ultra-white guy for Colin Powell and Condi Rice just killed me. But the best was the Asian dude in the Chairman Mao outfit announcing their selection “Inspecta Deck, Ol’ Dirty Bastard, Method Man, the GZA, the RZA, Ghostface Killa – the WU TANG CLAN”, the RZA and the Inspecta getting up and yelling “Konichiwa bitches!” and the crowd of Asians outside doing the Wu-Tang dance thing.

Charlie Murphy! Come over here, Darkness!

“Man, the cheif is fuckin’ up!”
“Hey look, a boat full of white people, I think I’ll go check it out”

“Man, I fucked up!”

“Hey man, one more step and I’m gonna kick this n****r out the mother f**kin’ window!”

Oh yeah!

Rick James: I can’t believe I’m sittin’ here tellin’ you stories about Charlie Murphy kickin’ my ass!

The racial draft was a riot. The end of the black white supremacist had me on the floor: Clayton Bigbsy divorced his wife stating he could not be married to a nigger lover.

The first show I saw had a skit in which Dave says he plays Vice City too much and it has effected his life. He leaves his house, walking in that loose-limbed Vice City walk and his game stats are on the screen. He pulls a guy out of his car “Sorry, I need this.” smacks the guy around. The guy pulls out a gun and shoots Dave, Dave stands there while weapons cycle in his hands.
OK, that’s just not a good description. You had to have seen the show and played the game. But believe me, it was funny

I agree that the second season has been more consistently funny so far than the first season. Plus he seems to be relying on that recurring crackhead less often to get cheap laughs. That sketch spoofing It’s a Wonderful Life from the first season with the “angel”/janitor on PCP talking to the big breasted girl was also a low point, most of the humor came from him throwing the word “titty” out there as often as possible. The kind of stuff you expect from sixth graders.

I have to admit I like the humor he gets out of racial stereotypes of all colors. The reparations sketch from the first season was good. But the racial draft from this one is probably some of his best stuff since the black white supremacist. The whites and blacks reluctantly agreeing to take back Eminem and OJ Simpson respectatively was cool too.

I like the milkman (Dave) in the Niggars sketch saying, in his best Eddie “Rochester” Anderson voice: “Oh! This racism is killin’ me inside!”

I had been playing GTA 3 a lot when I first saw the skit he did about Vice City I remember shouting at the TV when he was cycling through the weapons, “Scroll faster, dumbass!” Tells you I had been playing GTA too much at that point.
