I have a friend who had a girlfriend a few years back (okay, it’s been six years). Shortly after the two broke up, he finds out that she’s pregnant–and also finds out about an “ex-finance” who apparently was more in the picture than out of the picture. Girlfriend moves to another state, and that’s the last he hears from her. He has no clue if she carried the baby to term, delivered the baby, or if the baby was sired by himself or the ex.
He’s getting older, and the questioning that frequently happens as age approaches is taking over him, and hey, he would really like to know if he has genetic material floating around, but the question is, how in the heck does he find out?
We’ve talked about putting an announcement in the newpaper in the town he suspects she’s living in. (I was all for an Engagement announcement–I told him she’d contact his pretty darn quick if their names appeared in the newspaper, but he wasn’t too keen on that idea.) He has her name and her date of birth, but that’s about it.
I’m not encouraging him showing up at her parent’s doorstep (he knows where her parents live–and they met once and weren’t that impressed with him), and he’s written a letter to her awhile back, to which it went unresponded.
I suggested hiring a private detective, however, he’s not won the lottery as of yet and I think the thought of a PI’s bill made him swoon.
So, SD mates, any suggestions?
