I’ve never organized a gift exchange before, but I love the SDMB Secret Santa and didn’t want to skip it this year, so here goes! I didn’t get my ass in gear until now, so we might have to rush a little bit.
Ok, so here’s what to do:
Put a message in this thread saying “I’m in!” In your message put a little bit about the things you like so that we know what to get you. Spend what you feel comfortable spending, everyone will be happy with whatever they get!
Send an email to klgould5@gmail.com. In the email please include:
a. your user name
b. your real name
c. your mailing address
d. whether you are willing to ship internationally
Send me a PM that also says “I’m in!” Please be sure to add your user name and real name to this message.
Post in this thread when you have shipped the package to your recipient.
Come back and tell us when your package arrives and do be sure and tell everyone what’s in it - we Dopers are a nosy bunch!
Please sign up before November 21 and ship as soon as you can, but definitely before December 9.
Sorry again for the delay and the rush. I’m hoping for a big crowd this year!
Thank you so much for getting this going this year. I’ve had family stuff going on and totally forgot about it.
I am in!
I collect small bowls and am an avid gardener. Lately I’ve taken up birdwatching but I’ve always loved hummingbirds. Chocolate and caffeine are an important part of my diet, and I always enjoy trying new, local treats.
I’m definitely not picky but love getting gifts that are regional to the sender’s locale. Some general interests: running, pineapples, cooking, Philadelphia Eagles (Go Birds!). I have no allergies but do not like coconut or raspberries. Unisex t shirt size is medium.
I’m in. I like anything folks might care to send, but dachshunds and chocolate are right up there. Maybe Godzilla too. Or stuff from the sender’s area.
On December 1 I will be going to Lawrence, Kansas( about 25 miles from Topeka) to see the latest Toho Godzilla film, Godzilla minus One. I prefer the old Toho films, or their later kaiju feactures, to the Western versions. I loved Gamera and Mothra too. Did you ever see Gamera the Brave?
I’m in! This is my favorite thing all year. I may not be on the SDMB much these days, but I always come back for the Secret Santa!
I would love to receive something hand made by my Secret Santa, or made in or native to where my Santa lives. In general, I love gardening, knitting/crochet, bats, corvids, coffee, Fiestaware (an eclectic mix, I know!). I am allergic to kiwi and pineapple; don’t like coconut or mushrooms.
Thanks for your responses, everyone! We’ve got four days to go until the deadline for signing up. Either we’ll have a ton of fun as a very small group, or we’ll have made more friends by Monday.
My Santa can have more time too, mystery packages are fun no matter when they arrive.
I am going to start making cookies and Divinity this week (it has finally cooled down enough for that) so if anyone has any allergies that haven’t been mentioned, please speak up now!
Now I’m all nosy and stuff…are they related somehow? Kiwi just seems so mild and so far away from pineapple that now I’m going to go off and head down the google rabbit hole…
Oh, and no worries that I’m the sort of person who would hide an allergen in food.
I’m more the sort of person who would refuse to cook for someone who is deathly allergic to something I use on a regular basis because I would be too worried about cross contamination (despite having the sanitation habits of a professional cheese maker).
Kiwi and pineapple are not related that I know of, I just happen to be allergic to both. The last time I had kiwi (more than 30 yrs ago) I took one bite and had itching, tingling, swelling in my mouth. Downed a bunch of benadryl (thankfully my mom was a nurse) and never touched it again. Pineapple just causes my whole mouth to break out.
I did some interwebz research and couldn’t find a common link either. Of course, I’m not a medical person, I’m just nosy as heck!
I’m sorry you have allergies to those fruits (wait…is pineapple a fruit or a berry…more intertubez fox holes await!) because they are both pretty tasty.
I just saw the item about Fiestaware, Makes me think of my grandmother, she had a number of serving pieces and treasured them. Grandma never had regular china dishes, but liked the colors and sturdiness of the Fiestaware…
She also had depression glass pieces, quite a few. But they weren’t as valuble to collectors because they, back in the day, had been well used and had nicks here and there. But the pitcher was in good shape.
