Hi! This is my first time organizing one of these, so I’m going to borrow heavily from Anaamika’s OP from last year. That’s part of the tradition too, I think :D.
Everybody buys one present and mails it to their Secret Santa.
The Rules:
Traditional price limit is $10 excluding postage. If you really want to go over, go over, but let’s try to keep it between $10 and $20 so no one feels bad.
There are three steps to signing up.
post in this thread.
PM me here. Please put your username in the subject line. In the message, include your real name, your shipping address, and whether you are willing to ship internationally.
Post in this thread with some ideas for people - favorite things, colors, stuff you are allergic to.
When you ship, please wrap carefully to avoid disappointment on the other end. Also include a note with your name and your username so your recipient knows who his/her Secret Santa is!
Please post when you ship and when you receive, even if you don’t intend to open your gift until later. If you sign up and find out you are unable to participate, please let me know as soon as possible so we can avoid disappointment.
I’ll keep a running list of participants in this thread.
I’d like to have everyone’s names in by the end of the day December 10. I will try to post assignments the next morning. It’s short notice, but we’ll need time for shopping and shipping.
Many thanks to previous year’s hosts, whose OP I shamelessly stole from, including this line!
I’m totally in! Thank you so much, Silvorange, for hosting this. Might I suggest that if you are willing to ship internationally, you try and get your package in the mail ASAP? And sometimes it takes a looooooong time. Last year at least two packages, despite being shipped at a reasonable time, didn’t arrive until January.
I like candles but not potpourri, ornaments are a fav, anything Doctor Who (except a TARDIS ornament - I already have that), anything Supernatural. I love scarves - I wear them every spring and fall. And I love milk chocolate (no dark!)
I collect mouse figurines and ornaments. I love getting new ones for my tree each year. I also like good milk chocolate.
Cooking is one of my hobbies and it seems as though I never have enough silicone spatulas or whisks.
I also enjoy making necklaces out of reclaimed materials, so if you have any old junk costume jewelry laying around that you want to get rid of, send it to me and I’ll recycle it into new pieces.
I’m a tea-drinker, love dark chocolate, favorite colors green and purple. I’m a knitter, so a skein or two of gorgeous yarn would find its way into some kind of project. Something from your location would be cool. And if you’re utterly uninspired, my Amazon wish list is under my real name – used is fine for books and CDs.
Whoo!!! I’m so happy someone has stepped up to organize this! Thanks Silvorange!
Things that I like… pottery, earth tones, dark chocolate, good tea, fancy consumables (olive oil, flavored vinegars, etc.), old Christmas ornaments, costume jewelry brooches, kitchen gadgets… mostly I like being surprised.
Stuff I like: Old-timey stuff. Homemade stuff. Novelties. Candy that I can’t buy here. Handy-dandy little tools and kitchen gadgets. Stuff that is common where you are and unheard of here. I like most colors, but I would say I like yellow the least and I am not into the neon trend.
I like blue & green, in addition to my namesake purple. Red is OK too. Alright, I’m flexible, but orange and yellow are right out!
I like food and foodie stuff.
I like any excuse to laugh, and have a pretty black/twisted sense of humor at times, so it’s difficult to offend me.*
I haz two cats.
I like critters in general, and ecology/biology broadly.
I haz no allergies.*
Ooh, go on, the post office claimes the last posting date to the USA from the UK is the 13th, so I should just be able to do it in time!
I like: animals- especially odd ones, gardening, stuff from places I’ve never been to (I’ve not been to the US, except Newark Airport, so I imagine that covers most of you), handmade things, surprises, and most colours except pink. I’m vegetarian, but otherwise unfussy and allergy free.
I love Dr. Who (especially David Tennant, ywrow) and Downton Abbey, I garden (love neat gardening things of all types), I do lots of sewing and reading, paint with acrylics, like the color red and yellow…um, that’s pretty much it. I have cats but am NOT into cat collectible stuff. I do like USAF stuff (seeing how Hallboy joined and all).
Hurray! Thanks for doing this, Silvorange! Pm sent.
For suggestions of what to send me, hmm. A few of my favorite things:
Chocolate (love dark and milk both) or caramel
Amigurumi
Huge Anglophile here, so anything with a Union Jack or Brit-related
BBC Sherlock or Supernatural-related items
-Hand-made jewelry (yes, I’ve got pierced ears)
-Vintage things
-Postcards
-Animal related things, especially souvenirs from a zoo in your area or things related to elephants, baboons, elephant shrews, octopuses, or stingrays, among others. I love all sorts of exotic beasts.
My favorite color is blue if it matters. Things not to send me: Anything with nuts in it as I’m allergic. Craft supplies as I never have time to do crafts. Thanks a million - you wouldn’t believe how much this will brighten up my Christmas.
The first two are in the OP. As for last week day to ship, I don’t know what to say on that. Time will be short, so I would recommending shipping ASAP.
Please post to this thread when you have shipped and when you have gotten your package!
