Seeking a Spanish pen-pal

Earlier I saw a Spanish thread that was closed. I understand Euty can’t moderate what he can’t read, but it did pique an interest in me. I’ve always had an ear for languages and did take a couple of semesters in college…I know that doesn’t amount to much, but I remember it very well.

More importantly, it is vital that I become more fluent as 98% of my students come from Spanish-speaking households. Every year, including this new one, I have at least one student who is completely new to the language. I am able to communicate simple ideas and phrases: “Porque tu no puedes leer en ingles, no es justo para ti hacer las tareas que estan en ingles. Pues, use estas papeles–son en espanol, pero es lo mismo de los en ingles.” (Euty: Because you can’t read in English, it isn’t fair for you to do English classwork. Well, use these papers…they’re in Spanish, but it’s the same as the English ones.") I know my grammar is a mess, but the little girl got the idea.

I’d like an email pen-pal or someone to chat with who can help me build fluency and vocabulary. Being that I use Spanish solely in the classroom, I have a very limited vocab. BTW, I know there are dialectical differences…like, chula is “cute” is Mexico, and “whore” in Puerto Rico/Cuba. If possible, I’d like to correspond with someone who is familiar with the Mexican nuances.

Thanks! You can email me from the address listed here.

Ruffian,

I am bilingual in Mexican Spanish.

My spelling isnt the best (the accents get me every time), but I am more than happy to give it a shot.

Ruffian:

TCLouie was the guy in the Spanish thread (I responded). I’m not sure about pen pals, but could we find a Spanish Language message board?

Chrome

…Any ideas where to find one? And what kinds are out there?

Bad News…Email away.
