Seeking advice on de-fanging Nero 8

I just installed Nero 8 and it’s taking over. I found a solution to the first problem, which is that it starts a background job to scan files and it drives CPU up to 100%. The current problem is that it now ships with a multimedia center that can act as a viewer for my ATI TV tuner card. But the problem is that the viewer sucks, it shows a few frames per second, and the viewer that ships with the ATI card no longer works (“The TV player failed to intialize the video.”)

The “uninstall” appears to be an all-or-nothing proposition. I can’t just uninstall the media viewer. Any other way to clean it out so my ATI viewer works again?

I have scoured support and discussion boards but have not found anybody that has this particular problem, though a lot of people have complained about the background job (which can be turned off by setting options in Nero Scout).

I have had very positive experience with Nero in the past. The first time I got it, it shipped with a CD-RW drive. Then I upgraded to Nero 6 or 7. I decided it was time for another upgrade but this version is very invasive and tries to be all things to all people. I just want to edit video and audio, and burn discs! The last version I had did a very nice job, and the upgrade seemed like a good value.

Last time I got tangled up with Nero and its resource hogging ways, I eventually just downloaded Nero Lite and used my product key to unlock it.
