Moderating, stay on topic. George W. is not on topic.
President Biden’s main campaign committee just changed its name from “Biden for President” to “Harris for President,” in a letter it just sent to the Federal Election Commission.
And of course, FOX is braying that Obama hasn’t endorsed Harris yet so clearly the Dems don’t like her.
Obama stated he wasn’t going to endorse anyone/remain neutral until they were officially the nominee, as he usually does.
Not sure if it’s the time for that, but that is Obama’s history.
Link to article listing endorsements to date for Harris.
It looks pretty coordinated to me, to show the party coalescing around Harris before the (other) top Dems endorse her. I bet once it’s pretty clear that’s happening, Obama and Pelosi and the other top people in the party throw in as well, and it’s done.
ETA: maybe Obama waits again. I’d forgotten that from last time. I’d hope that if she is heading in uncontested he would do it.
I just stopped by to mention George McGovern of South Dakota.
That’s a long list with very high-profile Democrats. I had hoped Biden dropping and a quick Harris is the replacement process would happen. But didn’t expect it to happen in mere hours. Clean as you could hope for.
Also seeing about $30million in new donations so far today. That’s a lot.
Late: Couldn’t find Newsom on that article, but he recently has endorsed Harris.
Gee, the last I looked, Missouri and Arkansas are west of the Mississippi. I guess the river shifted a lot while I wasn’t looking.
Edit: Deleted stuff about VP choice since that is the subject of a different thread.
All of us being wrong stipulated, I suspect there’s a lot of people in the Mountain and Pacific zones that don’t really feel like Missouri, Arkansas, and even Texas are really anything but the east (and to some degree the south).
I think I must have been thinking she was first candidate from California and conflated it. Mea culpa.
Ronald Reagan was from California.
As was Nixon, but @Thing.Fish was talking about Democratic candidates.
Moderating: He was Republican and not Democrat and enough of this sidebar now off of some incorrect trivia.
Ah right. And yes.
And what will the process even be for those that are on the list. Is it purely down to the feeling of the delegates themselves? Is there any process (other than the pleas of the DNC establishment) to get them to vote for a particular now the winner of the primary is out of the running? They are not obliged to vote for whoever came second?
I like Kamala more after seeing this anecdote from Glenn Kirschner about her. She has little bronzed claker balls for both Bill Barr and Brett Kavanaugh on her desk.

Nope. The delegates are free to vote their conscience. But they are overwhelmingly loyal party men and women, and if it’s clear that party leaders have coalesced on Harris then that’s who they’re going to vote for.
They are released and serve as the representatives of those who voted for them to vote for whichever candidate they choose.
Step one of course will be if there is anyone else throwing their hat in the ring. I’ll be surprised if anyone else does. That 300 delegate threshold eliminates the fringe folk.
I’m expecting a steady drip of all the other major names endorsing her and then a call to have a virtual roll as scheduled before the crazy Ohio deadline just to avoid that silliness.
The convention itself will be a no surprises affair.
Fill up the news cycles with Harris support piling on, a town hall in which Harris (and any other nominee if any) answers questions to earn the nomination, the news of the virtual roll call given no one else running, and a scripted convention.
