Senator Lindsey Graham has died, plus discussion about his potential replacement

Tell it to Mary Bono and Jean Carnahan.

Margaret Chase Smith is a best case example as she was a distinguished liberal Republican.

While a sibling taking over after the death a brother or sister is almost unknown, it is common with a spouse or child:

Familial Connections of Women Members of Congress

As I understand it, Graham was his sister’s legal guardian from the time she was 13, when their parents both died within a year and a half of each other. So, there’s that wrinkle too.

Evidently Kash Patel was feeling like there weren’t enough conspiracy theories about Lindsey Graham, so he decided to stoke the fire. At the end of his condolence tweet Sunday, he added “the FBI is assisting local authorities and has made every necessary resource available.”

Attention parasite or complete idiot? Why not both?

Just a half dozen posts before yours was this post:

Attributed to the Mayor of Downington, PA.

(A quick Google shows that to be Erica Deuso, and yes, she is the one on Threads who said it.)

I’m just glad he lived long enough to watch us lose the war he so desperately fought for his entire career.

Which war is that? Not trying to be snarky; there are so many on which LG was representing the wrong side.

Or is this just an inversion of the classic “I’m glad he lived to see us win the war …”

Iran.

Yeah, he and McCain were pushing for that war for decades. Too bad McCain didn’t see the folly that it was.

At least neither were chickenhawks, I guess.

She’s also said:

Congratulations to Senator Darline Graham Nordone on her historic appointment. Her selection is a reminder that public service can begin in many ways, and that some doors open with remarkable ease.

President Trump moved with great confidence in assuming the duties of the Governor of South Carolina to pick who he wanted, and now South Carolinians will have the opportunity to be front-row witnesses to what follows.

I wish her Godspeed as she grows into the office over the next 173 days.

(Is copypasting from Threads against the rules?)

I don’t believe so, but providing a link to the actual cite is always a good idea.

You’re right, and I have just done so!

And Margaret Chase Smith, known for being an early and vocal critic of Joe McCarthy, who was elected to replace her dead husband and ended up serving in Congress 33 years, and Julia Letlow, elected to replace her dead husband in 2021, reelected twice to the House, now running for the Senate.

One storyline in season 2 of The Pitt had a guy come in presenting like kidney stones. The med student missed doing the aorta in the ultrasound and the patient eventually died from a rupture.

We just started watching The Pitt, finished ep.2 just the other day. Thanks a lot for the spoiler! :face_with_raised_eyebrow: :grinning_face_with_smiling_eyes:

On the good side, now I can say to my wife when we get to that episode “In my admittedly layman’s opinion, I think kidney stones is a false diagnosis, and it’ll turn out the patient has an aortic rupture, just like Lindsey Graham did-- betcha”.

You are wonderfully evil.

BWA HA HA HA HA…

Eh, who am I kidding-- she’ll see right through me. “Yeah right, you got that spoiled for you on the internet, didncha”.

Doesn’t matter. He would certainly be left behind anyway.
