Being crushed by a falling piano is far more notable.
Very true. And as cartoons have taught us, much funnier and not generally fatal.
Is there any reasonable chance of this happening in a deep red state like South Carolina? The state hasn’t gone for a Democrat in a presidential election since Jimmy Carter half a century ago. The last Democratic senator was Fritz Hollings who was first elected in 1966 when the Democratic party in the South was the only game in town (before Nixon’s “Southern strategy”).
His greatest sin was his hypocrisy.
“I want you to use my words against me. If there’s a Republican president in 2016 and a vacancy occurs in the last year of the first term, you can say Lindsey Graham said let’s let the next president, whoever it might be, make that nomination.”
2020 - RBG dies four months before the end of Trump’s term, and Graham is the first one in line to rush through Amy Coney Barrett‘s confirmation.
Andrews was polling neck and neck with Graham before his death.
As you’d expect, loons on social media are spreading conspiracy theories about his death. Some are claiming that Graham was killed by a Russian missile strike in Ukraine. Laura Loomer thinks the Russians might have poisoned him.
Lurid details of a woke murder plot in the U.S. are bound to surface.
Him voting against aid after Hurricane Sandy and demanding a blank check for his own state two years later.
And then claiming he didn’t remember the “no” vote.
To me, that seems most likely to be because of Graham’s unpopularity. Graham was distrusted by a lot of MAGA Republicans because he has spoken out against Trump in the past.
How is Andrews likely to do against a Republican challenger without Graham’s baggage?
That comment was off key.
I’ve always wondered how sure we are he was gay. It certainly seemed like that was the likely case. I can’t put my finger on it, but it just seemed like he was a closeted gay man who chose, for…reasons, to live as an extreme right-winger.
Yep, 100%.
C.S. Lewis was, for most of his life, a complete bachelor. Not gay, just never married or from what we knew even close.
Now, he got married relatively late in life. To a very ill woman.
He wasn’t gay, though. I’ve certainly never heard as such about CS Lewis.
He was a bachelor with that weird effeminate speech pattern a lot of straight southern men have. If he was really a closeted gay man, I think he would have tried harder to tamp that down.
As Chuck Todd would say, this is bad news for Democrats. They’ll run some MAGAsshole to take his place who doesn’t have the negative aura that Lindsey had. In any case, the world is better without him. Some people leave a mark, Lindsey left a stain.
TMZ is reporting it was cardiac arrest. An ambulance was called due to a potential heart attack and that is what the deal was.
“Chronic” in terms of medical conditions means either continuous or recurring for a long period of time. ( I believe at least three months) So a heart attack or stroke itself isn’t chronic - but the coronary artery disease that may have caused either one is. And the heart attack or stroke caused by trauma doesn’t involve any sort of illness at all

A woman I know describes herself as a “Lesbian-identified, bisexual celibate.” It took me a minute to parse that out, but it does make perfect sense.
My mother’s death certificate (state of Maine) lists direct cause of death, proximal cause, and contributing factors. Her proximal cause is the cancer she had been diagnosed with many years earlier, and which had been in partial remission for most of the time, with a high quality of life. Her direct cause of death was dehydration, because she did not want anything but pain medication if she was not conscious-- no IV fluids. The pain medicine was a contributing factor (albeit, not a cause), and so was the fact that she could not eat without a complicated surgery she refused.
She died after about 60 hours without fluids, which is not a lot of time in a climate-controlled room, for someone who is not very weak, but her death was officially massive organ failure from dehydration. We all knew her “Quality of Life” had crashed about six weeks earlier, and this was just off stage.
Exactly. His life was a relentless pursuit of safety; he never found it. I totally understand why a man in his position, and raised as he was, would try to turn a bully into his protector.
I’m not saying it’s all right. He accepted a position of high authority, and took an oath to uphold the Constitution. That comes with some scary and inconvenient actions required of you.
Reports of Graham’s death may have been exaggerated. Rep. Jack Kimble of California’s 54th District says he spoke to Graham in the hospital for 20 minutes this morning, covering a wide range of topics.
God refused delivery?
His proclivities were well known in DC. He liked young (meaning low twenties) men. He was a bottom. He was known socially as “Miss Lindsey.” Madison Cawthorn has complained very publicly about Graham pressuring him to come to an orgy. It was the worst kept secret in the whole DMV; and we’ve had a few of them.
But as I said earlier, I think a life of having to hide prevented him ever having an actual partner in his life. Which is just really sad to me.
