Maybe it is the Rule of Three coming true though! McConnell, Lindsay, annnd…!!! (and the third will have to be a Republican for the Rule to be validated!)
I know McConnell’s death hasn’t been announced, perhaps it hasn’t occurred but something weird is going on with that guy.
There are two Lindsey Graham threads to choose from, this one here in P&E, and another in the Pit. Let’s save the jokey mean stuff for the Pit, so more serious discussion about the ramifications of Graham’s death can be discussed here.
You’re not the only one who is misusing this thread, but your post is the point at which I decided it’s gone too far.
Yeah, he didn’t have any kind of real backbone. He knew and said Trump would destroy us and still went with him.
He did praise Joe Biden, calling him one of the finest people God ever made. He also, at least at the time, said Trump lost and Joe Biden and Kamala Harris should be inaugurated with no issue.
Somewhere in there was a rational person. He just sold out his principles like all Republicans because Trump…somehow helps them.
As they say, denial ain’t just a river in Egypt. I realize sexual identity can be complicated and full of nuances that aren’t readily visible to me. There are closeted gay men like Roy Cohn who didn’t think of themselves that way because they weren’t like those “sissies.” They just like having sex with other men. There’s nothing gay about that.
Heh, but it’s much worse than that. How can you not stand up to a fool? Ignoring them is a good idea, but if the fool continues to hurt you and your country, why not speak up?
Apologies, it was a shock to me to hear of his death (I was up very late last night, past 2am). I almost did not believe it, bc I did not see it on the regular media or even the alternative media, for that matter. Finally, the news was all over the place. I heard that possibly the long airflight caused a blood clot, and that is what happened (this was mentioned on Reddit, not the most accurate place, sometimes, I know). Not a fan of the man at all, but many in our govt are old and possibly secretly ailing. Surprising that some of them have held on this long, Grassley, etc.
Will his body lie in state in the Capitol rotunda?
I’m under the impression that the family of the deceased has to request this. (In Graham’s case this would be his sister.) Then there has to be a concurrent resolution in the House and Senate.
I’m pretty sure both congressional bodies would approve the request – out of respect for the office if not for the man. That is of course assuming that Trump doesn’t publicly state Graham should not get this honor, which is actually somewhat likely.
Has there even been a case where “lying in state” was not approved?
I am hoping this doesn’t violate the mod note but I do have to point out that I read that as “feces” and thought it clever before realizing I read it wrong.
I really do wonder if the seat is now more winnable. A replacement doesn’t have the anti-incumbent baggage. Would a hard MAGA or a play to the less extreme (no “center” within the GOP) be a better play for the GOP?
Graham’s office said Sunday that the preliminary cause of death was “aortic dissection due to arteriosclerotic cardiovascular disease,” or a rupture of his aorta due to a hardening of his arteries. - SOURCE
A quick Google says: “An aortic dissection is a tear in the main artery carrying blood away from the heart. This can cause the aorta (the body’s largest artery) to rupture.”
