Put there as a user’s default signature by Apple as a little marketing ploy. But it can be useful to let people know that you’re only able to see emails via your phone with whatever ramifications that may have.
Apart from that, meh.
I usually delete it if I’m in a situation where it could appear pretentious or whatever. But if not it’s a handy reminder that I’m typing on a touchscreen and some of the words might not be the wards I intestine to hype.
It’s not only iDevices…I have a friend with Sprint and her emails to me also have the “Sent on the Sprint Network on my xyz Device” signature attached. Kindle does the same thing.
My phone doesn’t do that so I don’t know if there’s a way to disable the signature.
You can disable it.
Actually, you can change it to whatever you want. I’ve seen messages apologizing for brevity because the response is coming by phone.
Sometimes I use PostedVia so that my facebook statuses say things like Sent Via My Toaster or Sent Via The Tardis.
Right, I’m changing mine to “Dispatchularised from my cellular, modular, interactivodular banana phone. Ring ring ring ring ring ring ring.”

Yep. I came in here to add this. A friend of mine has changed theirs to basically say “Written on my phone, please excuse the brevity.”
Blackberry had something similar. I’ve left it so that the person I am responding knows that it’s coming via phone as an excuse for the brevity of the message and any possible typos or weird auto-correct errors.
Turning off that little message was one of the first things I did when I got my iPhone.
I have something similar for my business emails. It’s non-branded, so I don’t look like a pretentious idiot, but I have found it useful to know that an email is from a phone, which means the person might not have been able to open attachments or even see images in the conversation.
Anyway, “Sent from my iPhone” could hardly be construed as bragging, these days.
A signature reading “Dictated to my secretary” - now that’s bragging.
Yep, exactly. My business emails have the sig line “Sent from my cell phone”. Just so people know that I’m not in the office and may be limited in available resources.
That’s how I’ve always translated the default “Sent from…” message. It’s helpful to know that my bud Jobsy McApple is running errands and is just dashing off a reply between stores.
I knew a douchey exec that’d have his secretary type “Dictated but not proofed” under his signature-- it was his way of disavowing anything he got wrong in his business letters.

Eh, on rereading, I see everyone already said what I was about to say.
Not sure why no one has mentioned this yet, but you can change that little message to say whatever you want.
Mine says: Sent from a teeny-tiny mobile keyboard
I’d love something else with a Who reference or something, but I have to occasionally look semi-professional and prefer not to change it around all the time.
It must be there as a sort of advisory: “If this message has bizarre, disturbing or incomprehensible content, please ask the sender to resend after turning off auto-correct”.
