Does anyone know (or have an ideas regarding) what the “You can’t stop the signal” tagline is all about?
Flash cut of someone (The Operative?) slashing something past camera.
Great job on breaking down the trailer, Cervaise! I carefully paused on this scene, and I think what it shows is…
A reaver, looking a lot like a Romero zombie, attacking an unidentifiable person.
Other than that, spot on!

Can we hope for a Matrix phenomenon?
Will they all be big stars?
An unfinished version of Serenity will be showing in the following cities and theaters on May 5th!. The cities are: Atlanta, Austin, Boston, Chicago, Denver, LV, Portland (OR), Sacramento, SF. Click link for more info.
Damn! None of those cities are particularly close to the DC-Baltimore area.
Boston isn’t? I thought the whole Eastern seaboard was only about twenty seven miles long. Anyway, the email from Joss sez:
Hey Browncoats-
Joss has some special news for you posted on the message boards.
http://browncoats.serenitymovie.com/serenity/index.html?fuseaction=forum.viewtopic&t=10362s.
Well.
It gets better.
As thus: The movie is very nearly finished. You’ve seen many pretty images in the trailer. But I’ve still got work to do and you’ve still got months before you can see it.
Unless.
And, no, I’m not talking Australia (but Hi, Australia! anyway), I’m talking here in the more-or-less-United States, a one time multi-city Browncoat sneak event. Thursday, May 5th at 10:00 pm, the movie (Serenity! Pay attention! Jeez.) will be playing at exactly 10 theaters in 10 cities across the country. You (or possibly someone much like you) (or possibly a robot EXACTLY like you, but with better manners and sonic arm-lasers, sent to take your place) will be able to buy a ticket to see Serenity months in advance. Not just the bitty trailer with not enough Kaylee and Book, but the whole film, in its extremely almost completed state.
You probably have some questions. How is this possible? What cities exactly will it be in? What are these changes my body is going through? All valid. It’s possible because some clown put a bunch of Universal execs in a theater full of Browncoats and dude, they came out SWEATING, they never seen energy like that. They loved it, and even though they were already wicked supportive of the movie (see: earlier posts re: we’re making the movie) they simply weren’t ready for you guys. When I whinged on about pushing the date and everyone here was posting about “what do we do till September”, they agreed to let me sneak it out.
Maybe they thought it was a fluke. Maybe they wanna see if people really do care about the flick. Or maybe they’re just treating us with respect and kindness, though that last option confuses and terrifies me as much as these changes my body is going through (I’m “perspiring” and becoming “interested in girls”, which believe me is very unsettling when you’re 40.) Does it matter? The plan works for me, and it can work for a select bunch of y’all. Here’s what I know:
The cities to be hit are:
Seattle
Austin
Sacramento
Boston
Altanta
Chicago
San Francisco
Las Vegas
Denver
The Portland of Oregon
If you’re in or near one of those, you might wanna stop by. There’s supposed to be a “Can’t Stop the Signal” page on this website (I don’t know where it is – hey, I remembered my damn password, doesn’t that buy me any cred?) There should be more info there soon about how to get in, bringing peeps into the fold, I think there’s even competetions and stuff. (All I know is I have exactly 20 Brownie points. I answered ONE triv Q and got it wrong. Forget cred. I have no cred.) Now a couple of us might just creep into one of those major metropolitan multiplexes to see if anyone does show up, so remember: swearing in Chinese ONLY.
All right. This will please the fans and satisfy the employers of Joss Whedon, so I must stop as my arm-lasers are getting tired. I politely thank you for your attention.
Should be fun.

In case any of you have been asleep for the past few days the Serenity trailer is out on apple.com! Check it out here
Gods, no!
*The Matrix * was interesting…the sequels sucked hard. I wouldn’t wish that on Joss and Company! Better they have a moderate to good-sized hit with Serenity, and get to make the next two movies without studio interference and pressure. Then they can become Major Stars. But only after I have gotten all the autographs and personal interaction out of my system, without having to fight the riff-raff.
Well, that makes me happy. I was wondering where the hell Book was.
[QUOTE=The Gaspode]
The cities are: (blah, blah), Austin, (blah, blah, blah). /QUOTE]
Oh, man! It’s even showing at the theatre I like to go to! But the dang thing is ALREADY SOLD OUT! ARRRGGHH!
I know it hurts to think this, Texan, but that’s a Good Thing. If Austin can sell out a sneak that fast, just think what that means. There are more of us out there than the suits think, no matter how high they are on the movie. They could be shocked after this screening. Maybe enough to sign everybody involved to a multi-picture deal, with lots of funding. I’ll miss being able to talk to everybody at Comic-Con and the like without getting mobbed excessively, but it’s a price I’m willing to pay (I think.)
Besides, I know that means the theater will be packed. (Yogi Berra voice):Nobody goes there anymore, it’s too crowded.(/YBV)
(Sour grapes) I want to wait until the polished version in September anyway! (/sg)
Hmmm… I wonder if any radio stations will be giving away tickets?
Damnit! The Atlanta theater is only selling tickets through Fandango, and their site is down for the moment!!!
off to refresh again
Grrr, I’m with RTFirefly - where’s our mid-atlantic location?
While I’d kill to see this, it’s probably not worth the ticket price plus a hundred bucks round trip flight to New England and back all in the last week of classes
Ah well, just over five months to go.
It is a very West-leaning group of cities - five that are either on the West Coast or within a few hours’ drive (Seattle, Portland OR, San Francisco, Sacramento, Las Vegas), and only two anywhere on the Eastern Seaboard. Couldn’t they have had a showing in NYC, DC, or Philly instead of freakin’ Sacramento??
Not enough Kaylee. Darn.
Well, those #@%# at the theater lied to me, apparently. The tickets were never available on Fandango, and they sold out of them at the actual theater box office.
Five more months for me…
sighs
Dammit. I just tried to get some tickets to the Portland or Seattle sneaks, and it turns out they’re all sold out.
Every.
Damn.
One.
Gah.
Already got our passes to Comic-Con in July. Joss will more than likely be there with at least several trailers, and maybe a blooper reel (I hope!). Last year the whole cast was on hand…we shall see for this year. That just might keep me sane until September.
It’s been a bit since I saw the particular episode, so I may be misremembering. In “Out of Gas”, the crew leaves Mal on Serenity to fix the engine in order to conserve air and increase their chances of a rescue. They leave a button hooked up to the comm system so Mal could signal them to come back when the repairs were done. He ended up passing out before hitting it (he was wounded by some pirates), but they came back anyway.
Or it might have something to do with events specific to the film and the above is just something my brain concocted out of vacuum.
Related to that, in the DVD commentary for that ep, the actors mentioning “swiping” the button prop (it was filmed after the cancelation was looming) to give to Joss, telling him to hit the button when it was time to call them home.
The button’s been sufficiently pressed.
Yeah. I was thinking it’d be cool to take two days off work and greyhound it to Boston or Chicago, but no luck there I guess. (sighs)
That’s what I get for not paying enough attention to the cortex.
I think that you’re conflating the story. It was mentioned in ‘out of gas’, but that episode was filmed earlier on IIRC, however the button was left there and became a permanent part of the cockpit. The swipage happened during the last episode to get filmed (possibly ‘the message’??), after principal filming was done, but before a few pick-up shots were done in the cockpit, so for continuity they had to hide the fact that it was missing.
Do I get some firefly geek points for that, to redeem myself with?
