As it happens, I watched ‘The Message’ with the commentary track on last night, and you are correct on all points. It was Alan Tudyk (Wash) who did the swipage.
50 geek points. Don’t spend 'em all in one place.

I’ve watched the trailer probably twenty times now.
Part of me can’t believe that this is actually happening. From small-screen outcast to big-screen hero. Who’da thunk it?
After the cancellation, I hoped, I wished, and I prayed, but I’da never thunk it.
One of the screenings next week is in Seattle, right? You manage to get yourself a bunk for that showing? If so, I’d be mighty appreciative if you’d write one of your sorely missed reviews.
Long Live Firefly!!
Apparently, you need the Whedon to know the difference.
(A little late, but what the heck!)
Not sure exactly why, but that made me laugh out loud.
Didn’t find out about it until the morning after it was announced. Long sold out by the time I hit the site.
I wonder if there are enough people interested for a “film festival” (DVD festival?) of Firefly. Similar to the Star Trek (TOS) series of threads going on in Cafe Society, we could discuss one episode a week (reviewing the DVDs or doing them from memory or whatever). The number of episodes out would cover a good chunk of the time between now and the movie, at the rate of one per week. Anyone interested?
I’m down with that.
Sign me up, Tex. Would Monday evening suit? That way folks can watch them over the weekends at their leisure, and weigh in on Monday night.
Doesn’t really matter to me what night we do it though; for Firefly I’d make the time.
Count me in.
Firefly club threads… sounds cool, I’m in!!
A few questions naturally pop up… do we go in broadcast order or DVD order??
Does ‘Serenity’ count as one episode or two? (I mean, do we watch it all one week, or do half one week and half the next??)
I’m all for that! I say we go in DVD order, otherwise known as the “right” order, as the broadcast order is the “Fox-execs-with-their-heads-in-their-a$$” order.
Sounds good to me, a little easier to follow… though someone should probably still post the ‘right’ order, since it’s a little hard to figure out the sequence of episodes on a disk based on some of those DVD menus… ‘okay, does it go left to right, THEN top to bottom or the other way around?’
‘Serenity’ this weekend??
Another yes vote. I agree we should go with the Whedon order, not the Fox order. It shouldn’t be too confusing, Chris, the sleeve for each disc has the list of episodes on the back:
Disc 1:
Serenity
The Train Job
Bushwhacked
Disc 2:
Shindig
Safe
Our Mrs. Reynolds
Jaynestown
Disc 3:
Out of Gas
Ariel
War Stories
Trash
Disc 4:
The Message
Heart of Gold
Objects in Space
And I think we should do Serenity as one two hour episode.
Cool! Sounds like we have support.
DVD order - and in the first post, let’s post the order, to avoid confusion.
I think we should count all of “Serenity” as one, so that we can discuss the whole thing at once. What does everyone think?
ExTank, my Monday evenings are pretty bad. If the onus of starting the threads falls to me for making the suggestion, then they’re not getting started Monday nights. Tuesdays, maybe. On the other hand, if someone else wants to start the threads on Monday, that’s fine, and I’ll join in later.
Or, for that matter, I could start them Sunday night.
chrisk suggested starting with the first one this weekend. Would we gain more interest by putting a thread in CS saying we’re going to do this, then give everyone a week to watch it? Maybe some of the somewhat interested people (tan shirts? ) would want to buy/rent/borrow the DVD to watch, and we’d get a broader discussion group.
Thoughts?
Alternately, Santos can sneak in while I’m composing my post, and post the order for us… (thanks!)
I second that we start a new thread, and give a week to watch/review.
Post a new thread- it’ll be much more interesting if we can get a few people who are seeing Firefly for the first time to post. Might want to put links to the DVDs on Amazon and Netflix in the OP as well, for the same reason.
We should definitely watch “Serenity” as one episode. I don’t know where the break between “part 1” and “part 2” actually occurs, in any case.
I agree–one episode. (I watched it on Tuesday, but I’ll be happy to watch it again for discussion purposes. I’ll take one for the team. ) And I’m pretty sure the break goes right after Mal opens the cryochamber thing, sees River all naked and unconscious, and says “Huh.” Which is actually a fabulous place to leave it, if you ask me.
Okay, Serenity next week… that works for me. (not “Serenity now!!” )
As another point of procedure, we should come up with a standard for spoilers and other references in discussion to further episodes that haven’t appeared on the schedule yet, (though we don’t have as much further canon to worry about as the trekkies do. )
By the way, I’ll be able to post thread starters on monday evenings.
Hmmm… spoilers. Probably not a big issue, but let’s address it. My suggestion:
Did I miss anything?

What do y’all think?
