"Serenity" (Firefly movie) delayed to September

That’s a great, awesome and shiny idea.

I await your thread with pleasure, NE Texan.

They were lying to you when they told you that, too. Or at least I was told something different: that Fandango reports a movie as “sold out” when its sales reach 80% of the house. That happened on the night of the 26th, I think.

But regardless, I bought my pair of tickets in person at Regal Hollywood 24’s box office, almost four hours after you made your post here. After my purchase, I was told, only ten tickets remained.

I’m sorry you got screwed this way.

[bTex,** you’ve got a plan. I’ll see ya’ll in the 'verse.

Good plan, NE Texan. One suggestion: we should make sure people using spoiler boxes specifically note what they’re spoiling (i.e. “future episode” versus “movie”). That way, we don’t get trouble from someone accidentally reading a movie spoiler when they were expecting a tidbit on “Objects in Space.” This also prevents discussion on different later episodes from acting as spoiler material for those who may have skipped ahead but haven’t actually finished the series yet.

**Example:

SPOILER for FUTURE EPISODE: “Objects in Space”**

Blah blah blah River is actually made of CHOCOLATE blah blah blah

You lie! You lie!

(re: Trailer) Six rebels on the run? Where do they get that number?

There’s nine central characters on the ship. So three of them aren’t rebels? Which three?

Maybe you could say Inara wasn’t really a rebel as she still has an official, legal job. I guess we don’t really know about Book and his background, but maybe he’s “legal” too. But both are hanging out with the rebel crowd, and at least aware of if not helping out with illegal crew activities. And who would be the third non-rebel?

Maybe rebels means those who fought against the Alliance in the war? But that only gives us Mal, Zoe, and Wash (ok, he didn’t really fight–but if my memory is correct, didn’t he fly a plane, and end up as a P.O.W. for most of the time? And did shadow puppets?).

I thought up some other ways to divide the folks up, but nothing is really working to get the six number. Am I missing something obvious? I don’t get it.

I’m totally up for the “film festival” idea. Many episodes I’ve only watched once (I’m rather new to the whole thing plus I’m rationing b/c I love it so much), but it would be fun to re-watch with the group.

FYI: I saw HHGTTG last night, and the Serenity trailer was notshown. I even showed up extra early so I could be sure to catch all the trailers.

Unless I’m forgetting something big about her, Kaylee isn’t really a rebel at all. Mal offered her a job on the ship; she took it.

I look forward to the discussion group.

On a related note, the bidding on ebay for scalpers tickets to the preview showing is already getting hot and heavy.

I think the six rebels are Mal, Zoe, Wash, Jayne, Kayee and Inara. The rest of the people count as ‘passengers’.

River was already mentioned as “a passenger with a past” so I think she’s not one of the six. And Book and Inara are both fairly respectable.

So by that reckoning, the six would be Mal, Zoe, Wash, Jayne, Kaylee, and Simon.

It’s funny how we all come up with different ones, though, isn’t it?

I assumed that Simon, River, and Book were not counted among the “rebels.” I wonder if the trailer monkeys (terrifying space trailer-monkeys!) had any idea one line would spark so much controversy. :stuck_out_tongue:

So, apparently I’m the only Doper who’ll get to see Serenity tomorrow night.

Shall I create a thread Friday morning? Or would you all rather not hear about it?

I think of the original crew as rebels. Mal, Zoe, Wash, Jayne, and Kaylee.

I think of Simon & River as fugitives, rather than rebels.

Inara and Book are more or less passengers that lend the whole group some legitimacy when needed.

Of course they’ve all assisted with crime, so they’re all guilty by association I guess. Nevertheless, the math don’t work.

Anyway, has anyone heard, or somehow divined if we’re going to learn anything new about the Reavers?

I’d enjoy a thread, but I humbly request a specific format: Take questions from the gallery, and put all your answers and comments in spoiler boxes. I have a couple of specific concerns about the movie (e.g., sound in space), but I don’t want to know anything beyond those answers.

For example, I understand that in the movie (MAJOR, MAJOR SPOILER, highlight at your own risk, this is not a joke, don’t yell at me)—a member of the main cast dies—but I don’t want to have it confirmed, I don’t want to know anything about it, and I don’t want to risk stumbling across it. On the other hand, there may be people who want to know anything and everything beforehand. Spoiler-boxing everything is pretty much the only way to serve both audiences.

Whatever you decide to do, please make sure the content of the thread is clear in advance, so those of us who are attempting to stay pristine can remain so.

Oh, and be prepared for a wave of jealousy unlike anything you’ve ever experienced. :stuck_out_tongue:

What Cervaise said. I do want to know how it goes though and if, as rumoured, any cast members show up. And if state anything like, “i hate that stinkin’ Fiver,” please understand that actually translates to, “That Fiver is damn lucky…jealous…mumble, grumble…”

I also would be interested in threads of the Firefly DVDs with my fellow dopers, particularly since I blame all of you for my brand new Firefly obsession.

Hell, Cervaise let’s just beat him up and steal his lunch money.
Only Doper to see Serentity indeed…We’ll show him…

Hey, did we ask you to watch this show?

So, a Q & A thread. That’s a good idea, Cervaise; I’ll go with it.

And my OP will describe the circus surrounding the screening, too. How early people start lining up (I’m getting there around 4), if anyone’s in costume, whether the cinema is in any way prepared for the crowds and excitement, etc.

And which castmember, if any, shows up. I’m feeling pretty confident one of them will; this blog entry from Jewel Staite says she would have been at the Seattle screening but for a schedule conflict.

Nine cities (other than Seattle) having screenings; nine castmembers (minus Jewel, but plus Joss). Coincidence? I think not!

carnivorousplant, my lunch money wouldn’t get you into the screening. You’d have to beat me up and take my movie tickets for that!

:Jayne: “Let’s be bad guys.”
