Very annoyed that S5 of Yellowstone is not on Peacock. Oh well, I’ll just struggle with Paramount plus and watch it there. Right? Oh hell no, it can’t be seen on P+, it can only be seen on the Paramount Network, which is only available through Sling TV. Well then, just fuck off.
Bad enough that if I want to see 1883 and 1923, I have to deal with P+, which I usually can’t access until I’ve tried 17 times. I gave up last night and just connected my laptop to the TV via HDMI cable and started 1883 that way. Total PITA.
I just finished it today. If you’re watching a zombie movie for story and plot, you’re in the wrong place. I thought it was a pretty good ride but I don’t like the way it ended in an unresolved cliffhanger. Yes, people did things that they should know better
I’ll bring a zombie on the ship. What could go wrong?
I’m glad you enjoyed it, and taste varies, of course, but since it was canceled after 1 season, has a 25% audience approval rating on Rotten Tomatoes, and a list of scathing reviews, I don’t think my expectations are the problem.
Wasn’t sure if 1883 would hold up as a prequel to Yellowstone, but so far it’s pretty good. Murdering cowboys, women with attitude, and horses and cows. Yep.
I just finished watching the first (and hopefully last) season of Copenhagen Cowboy". After the 6 50 odd minute episodes, I still didn’t understand who the main character really is and where she came from. It was slow, unconnected, and laborious to watch. I give it one star, and it is the only Netflix series I’ve rated with the thumbs down icon.
Regarding the news that the new season of Miracle Workers won’t air as scheduled, why the late notice? The first episode should have aired yesterday and by now the show should have been “in the can”.
I’ve never heard of a show being pulled after having been scheduled and promoted, unless there was some sort of controversy or ill-timed subject matter.
I wonder if there’s something TBS isn’t telling us.
I’ve just started watching this. It’s weird, but what worries me isn’t the show itself but what this and similar shows are telling us about Korean society. This one is all about stopping people killing themselves due to bullying or financial failure or lack of career success or social shaming and so forth, but I’ve also watched Taxi Driver (no relation to the film) which is about…stopping people killing themselves due to bullying or financial failure or lack of career success or social shaming and so forth.
And then there Extraordinary Attorney Woo which, while much more upbeat, involved an entire episode about primary school kids being pressured into studying every day through 10 o’clock at night without a break and becoming addicted to caffeine drinks at 10 years old and having breakdowns.
And of course there’s Squid Game - not that murder games are common, but financial ruin is.
South Korea really seems to have taken late-stage capitalism to heart, and it’s not been a good thing for their society if these shows are any accurate reflection of real issues there. But I suppose America isn’t that far off this reality either.
(I have a whole separate rant about how every male lead in these shows looks exactly the same - not in an " All Koreans look alike" way but in a “There is very much a type and it’s ‘potential member of BTS’”. But that’s for another thread.)
I will say that Kim Hae-sook is killing it here as the Jade Emperor, though.
What I’ve learned from Korean shows: Incredibly misogynistic society yet their shows love celebrating women who go against that. Being an orphan is the worst possible thing that could befall you. School bullying is endemic and never stopped by adults. Nepotism is the norm. Financial trouble drives a lot of drama.
I do think it’s reasonably accurate, but yes, perhaps they’re more honest about it in their media than others.
I think there’s two distinct leading man looks - to see the difference, look at Goblin, or Bulgasal, or Tale of the Nine-Tailed - one male lead is more … masculine, mature, slightly less of the 2-block hairstyle. The other, more androgynous, younger, more of the 2-block, yes, exactly like BTS.
I started watching American Pickers last night. There are a lot of unique folks out there with a lot of interesting stuff hiding in their attics. Not as good as Salvage Kings, though, and one of the main “pickers” is kind of a jerk.
(sorry, my guy watches this, I yell hoarders at the TV every time I walk thru the room. 50 year old rusted to hell car, but yeah, the 85 year old owner is going to get it up and running someday. )
