Series you've recently watched, are now watching or have given up on

Good to hear. We’re going to start that tonight.

My vote would go to one of these three: The Dark Knight, Iron Man, or Spider-man (Toby Maguire version)

Spider-man: Into the Spider-verse is excellent.

The Elijah Wood version is on Hulu. I do want to see the Mangan version, though - I liked him in Episodes with Matt LeBlanc.

The annoying thing about trying to watch The Imperfects and I can’t find why I added it to my watchlist. I vaguely recall that someone from something I’d liked previously was involved, but I see no one like that anywhere in the credits now. That’s going to bug me.

Spider Man: Into the Spiderverse is definitely excellent. But… I think it also benefits a fair bit from at least moderate familiarity with Spiderman comics, superheroes in general, etc. Certainly wouldn’t be at its best as the one and only one superhero movie someone is going to watch.

The weird part about this show is that Rufus Sewell, who plays her husband, is British. That’s just odd to me.

I mistook him for John McGinley at first. First ep was okay, so we’ll stick with it for now, but a president would never send an ambassador without the SecState knowing about it. I have to say that they have pretty much captured the difference between a career diplomat and a political appointee.

Same. And somewhat amusing.

We happened to catch some episodes of a show called Hullraisers on IFC, and we’re loving it. It’s set in the city of Hull (in Yorkshire? near Yorkshire?) and is about two sisters. The younger sister is a struggling actress married to a very sweet guy with a five yr old daughter. Her best friend is a single South Asian police officer. The best friend’s brother is married to the older sister, and they have two kids (a teenager and a little kid). Sounds a bit complicated, but it’s easy to catch on.

It’s very funny, although if you’re a USian, like me, you’ll likely need closed captions. I thought I was pretty good with Yorkshire-ish accents, but their accents are strong, and they use a lot of slang. There are moments of sweetness, but they’re never lingered on or get soppy.

It reminds me of another Brit family comedy I loved called Raised by Wolves which is set in the Midlands, and that accent was a little easier for my ears to hear. A mom whose husband works on North Sea oil rigs for months at a time is essentially a single mom with five daughters and one son, and a father (Inspector Japp – Phillip Jackson) who lives in the cupboard under the stairs. The girls all have the names of singers (Germaine, Aretha, Yoko, Mariah, and Cher. Wyatt is the boy. Germaine is hit hard by puberty and is pretty much the focus, and she is insane. LOL. Aretha (who also played Toby Stevens’s daughter in The Detectorists) is bookish and maybe a bit Lesbian-ish. Yoko is probably on the spectrum, and Mariah and Cher are just little ones. This show made me laugh way too much.

Still digging Schmigadoon!

“Talk to Daddy” and “Good Enough to Eat” were hilarious show-stoppers. May be my favorite episode so far.

We are two episodes into “Joe Pickett”, starring Michael Dornan (“Gordo” in “For All Mankind” and the star of “The Patriot” which I highly recommend ). It’s really good so far. Dornan plays an ‘everyman’ game warden who always seems to find more trouble than you’d expect in the Wyoming wilderness. The Joe Pickett books are my wife’s favorite series, and she’s happy with the show so far.

We are also watching ‘1883’, the first prequel to ‘Yellowstone’ in which we follow a wagon train aceoss the country as they head out to build farms out west. Great show so far, and we are on episode 7. It is an expensive TV show, coming in at over $10 million per episode. But its own sequel, ‘1923’, is even more expensive and may be the most expensive first season of a TV series ever. We’ll be watching that when ‘1883’ is over.

It was good, although Harrison Ford as a cowboy and Helen Mirren as an American frontier type takes some getting used to.

Started watching Fired on Mars. The premise was pretty good, Luke Wilson as a guy on a one-way-trip colony on Mars–who gets fired from his job. At first I was disappointed to find that it was animated, not live action. Then I was disappointed that it isn’t good.

Thanks for the heads up, I didn’t know there were new episodes coming up.

I agree. It seems like they are forcing a relationship, even if it’s a platonic one.

I guess Jared took it with him when he left the show.

No, she was probably from Canada.

I’m still trying to catch up with the new season of The Mandalorian, but life keeps interfering. By the time I get around to seeing it the discussion thread here will be over.

Does anyone else have problems with the subtitles on Hulu? They are as often as not mistimed. It’s really aggravating. You never know how worthless something is til you have st that are off by a few seconds. Who do you complain to? Why hasn’t it been fixed by anyone who watches their own product?

You’re a better man than I am. Dornan’s wooden acting and attempt at a steely jawed rural American threw me right off. I quit after the first episode. He was a lot better in The Patriot.

Nope, mine work great.

I just finished the Disney+/Nat’l Geo series Limitless. It follows Chris Hemsworth as a guinea pig in various “challenges”, looking for ways for a longer, healthier life.

It’s pretty much standard celebrity reality show stuff, but there is some real drama when DNA test reveals he’s got a high risk of Alzheimer’s and in the final episode when he meets with people who give him their own perspectives on aging and death. If you’re a fan you’ll probably enjoy following his journey as he is a charismatic guy. There’s an added bonus of some nice cinematography and in the end the ultimate message is one everyone might well take to heart.

No problems here, either, and we’ve been watching several series on Hulu lately. I’ve had lag before, but stopping the program and then starting up again has usually fixed it.

 Thanks for the heads-up!

Have now finished the first four episodes of Mrs. Davis. The weirdness level is getting turned up with each episode.
