We just started the first season of The Bear last night and are really enjoying it through the first two episode.
I hope you enjoy it. It’s a good show and I think I liked the second season even more. (Though there was a big gap between the two seasons, so I don’t remember how much I liked the first one.)
I actually had to look up Natalie (the sister) because I don’t remember at all from Season 1. Still don’t remember her.
It’s been a while but I think in the first season, the sister only briefly appeared, while in the second season, she was much more actively involved in the restaurant.
Yeah, I saw Star Blazers on the list. I didn’t realize the link I posted was to the movie, I thought they had the original series from before it was Americanized. (They are sadly very low on classics. None of the Voltrons, no Tranzor Z, no Battle of the Planets with or without 7-Zark-7.)
They have Ghost Stories, but I’m sure it is the bland, straight new dub, and it is a really untemarkable series when played straight. If you aren’t aware of this, the original (official!) english dub went absolutely crazy with the script:
Ghost Stories is Ghost Stories (2000) [Dual Audio DVDRip 960x720 10bit HEVC][MeGaTroN] : Tōru Tsunemitsu : Free Download, Borrow, and Streaming : Internet Archive with both the insane and the boring dub audio teacks.)
The above is supposed to say
Ghost Stories is available on archive.org with both the insane and the boring dub audio tracks.)
At the bottom. The link didn’t paste right, and I can’t edit the post because it has a Youtube video.
I just want to say that JUSTIFIED IS RETURNING FOR ANOTHER SEASON! It’s supposed to debut in July. Sadly, no Dewey Crowe or Kentucky criminals. This time, Raylan is going to Detroit. And yes, it’s still Timothy Oliphant.
Son of a Critch. About the 80s, looks like The Wonder Years, starts on my birthday, one of my favorite actors (Malcolm McDowell)? Yes please!
First two episodes of Hijack have dropped on Apple TV. So far, very engaging even though they are holding back a lot info about what motivates the bad guys and the hero. Another interesting thing, it appears to be paced in real time with no flashbacks.
We’ve just started watching an older (2014 or so) UK series called Shakespeare and Hathaway about a pair of private detectives in the Stratford area. It’s definitely light and fluffy, and I’ve guessed all the culprits so far, but it’s enjoyable enough if you don’t want to work your brain too hard. Nice scenery, too.
We tried Silent Witness, but after about four episodes I was done. Booooring and stupid. Apparently, it’s been around for decades, and I can’t see why.
Out of curiosity , did you start Silent Witness from the beginning? I’m on a few British tv fan groups and I’ve seen the suggestion to start at Season 8 and have been thinking of trying this.
No, I don’t know what season we watched, but it was fairly recent. Later than 2018? I think? The episodes we watched had so many of the really bad tropes, like not telling anyone that you’ve found something that could incriminate a coworker, and a few others that just made the characters seem so stupid. And these were supposedly people who’d been doing the job for ages and should know better. The boss had a weird affect and interacted oddly with his staff. Just not entertaining or interesting.
Thanks- that’s good to know. I started it at the beginning a long time ago and remember it being awful but it does get highly recommended on the groups I’m on but so do many other not-so-great shows .
Yeah, I’d seen it as fairly highly rated and was really surprised at how stinky it was. I’d assumed it had been better in the beginning and petered out into mediocrity, but no?
Watching Sex and the City with Inna. She is rewatching, this is my first time. To be fair, SatC is more interesting than entertaining, but enjoyable nonetheless.
Inna couldn’t envision Sarah Jessica Parker as a nerd, I told her that I had to stop thinking of her as such, lol. Surprised she smoked, shocked that she smoked in other people’s homes and at public receptions. And people say there’s no such thing as progress!

Deadloch (Prime, 2023, 1 Season so far)
The only published blurb I could find: A feminist noir comedy set against a bucolic backdrop with a rising body count.
A Chief Constable (??? Ozzie version of Sheriff) has to deal with a body and potential murder suspects in a small Tasmanian town. On top of that is a loudmouthed rival Inspector from Darwin who’s flown in to shake things up a bit which chafes the by-the-book nature of our protagonist. Everyone is lesbian and a love triangle appears imminent.
We liked it. Early days so I don’t want to say too much, but I was hooked in the first 5 minutes when they find the body.
I recommend this to anyone who likes shows that dance on the edge between macabre and dark comedy similar to Fargo or perhaps The Boys.
I just binge watched the first season of the Netflix series In The Dark.
It was interesting and well written, though maybe a bit too gritty. Anyone have an opinion on whether the remaining seasons are worth watching?
Just started a French police show featuring a forensic doctor called Balthazar – which is also the name of the series. One episode in, and I’m hooked. My sister’s mad because identification of the killer was right, and hers was wrong, but she really liked it, too.
The SO and I got into this show. I seem to recall the 2nd season being really good. But by the 3rd season it starts to get more and more difficult to believe. (It’s just so hard not to want to see more of Murphy).
The one thing worth watching, though, is the character development of the co-workers and roommate. I think their stories are more interesting than the craziness of what they get involved in.
i started watching “the good fight” this weekend. ah, i missed elsbeth. love that character. then i find out that there may be an elsbeth show, depending on the writers strike, this sept.
