Dexter: New Blood Paramount+

There’s only 10 episodes. It’s pretty good. Not great. The ending left me dissatisfied.

Spoilers*

Like most fans, I was relieved Dexter survived the original series and retired.

They didn’t have to kill him off to reboot a new series with his kid.

I am happy that Dexter went ten years without killing. It shows that he could control his dark side.

I’m puzzled why it was basically a mini-series. Maybe that’s all Michael Hall agreed to do?

I’m just finishing season one and heartily agree. Also, I went to college with a recurring cast member!

Just started watching The Pradeeps of Pittsburgh. The first episode reminds me a bit of The Detour.

i tripped over the good ship murder.

just a good time filler series. not too messy. a murder in every port.

The Good Ship Murder - Wikipedia

after that i starting rewatching/watching elementary. i only saw it sporadically during the series run.

From the Wikipedia page on that: The Sun said that the show is “so murderously awful, it’s brilliant”

While I’m a fan of certain types of stupidly awful movies. E.g., Zombie Island Massacre with Rita Jenrette, I’m choosier when it comes to TV shows. Pass.

That is why it is a good time filler. I was able to do other things with the show in the background.

I need shows like this to get housework done.

I liked episode 3, introducing The Lilac Ghost.

We began watching a 30-minute drama/comedy on Apple+ called “The Big Door Prize.” Chris O’Dowd is the lead but the entire cast is quite good. The gist is that a mysterious machine appears in a small town, promising to reveal everyone’s true potential, and the effect this has on everyone. It’s an intriguing premise, and is often more drama than comedy.

So what happens? Apple just cancelled the series after Season 2, leaving everyone on a cliffhanger. Having been burned this way before, this is the kind of thing we try to avoid.

Good series, though, if you don’t mind investing your time in something that will leave you hanging.

The mystery of the machine was always kind of a McGuffin. I doubt an explanation was ever forthcoming, no matter how many seasons it ran.

Damn it! I loved that series. But nobody seemed to be talking about it, so I guess I’m not surprised.

It has a few mentions in this thread.

I watched it, but I won’t miss it. I watched for weird twists, but I can’t say that I found a single character likable.

Bad Monkey on Apple TV. It’s a little short on story but it’s rich in fun and interesting characters in Key West and the Bahamas. Although it’s based on a Carl Hiaasen novel, the screenplay was obviously written with Vince Vaughn in mind, which may grate on some people - the Vaughn smarm is cranked up to eleven. Meredith Hagner turns in a great performance as the villain.

I’m still on my kick of watching old sitcoms. I was so enamoured of revisiting Seinfeld that I started a separate thread on it. Incidentally, the answer to the question of what to do when it was all over was: watch it again! Or at least, watch my favourite episodes again. After that, as mentioned before, I went on to The Vicar of Dibley.

Currently re-watching the Newhart show (the series set around the Vermont inn, not the older one where Newhart was a Chicago psychologist). For some reason most of the episodes were very familiar even though it had been a long time since I’d seen them, maybe because they didn’t have as much depth as some other series, but there were still some pretty funny scenes.

I haven’t changed my mind about Seasons 1 and 2, which I mostly didn’t watch except for a couple of episodes to remind myself why I didn’t like them. It’s mostly the Kirk Devane character. The comedic conceit is supposed to be that he’s a habitual liar, but that and his other mannerisms just make me want to punch him in the face. It’s not remotely funny. And the original Stephanie Vanderkellen (Season 1 only) was unobjectionable but basically just kinda boring.

When Julia Duffy arrived as the new Stephanie, along with the late Peter Scolari as boyfriend and local TV producer Michael Harris, the series really took off. Sure, both were portrayed as shallow and completely self-centered, but they were so over-the-top and lovable you just had to forgive them! And of course the new owners of the Minuteman Cafe and constant visitors to the inn, Larry, his brother Darryl, and his other brother Darryl!

on NBC Brilliant Minds and The Irrational

It’s rare for me to watch a series in real time. I usually discover the good ones later on streaming. I dislike getting invested in a show that gets canceled early.

I’ve always enjoyed medical dramas like Medical Center and St Elsewhere. So far Brilliant Minds is a interesting take on an old format. I can’t recall a neurologist as a Main character before.

The Irrational has a terrible title. I gave it a chance last year and kept watching. It was a bit too academic in the early seasons. Too many lectures on behavioral science. They came back after a hiatus with the Professor more involved and invested in catching criminals.

Season 2 is different for several characters. They’re taking different responsibilities and jobs. Hopefully it will make the show even better. Retooling is always risky.

I like The Irrational but the constant re-working is a pain.

Last week, a major character was kidnapped. Did anyone dial 911?

Nope. the professor calls his ex, the FBI lady

Never saw a police detective. A few police cars were shown at the end.

I see how they’re giving more screen time to minor characters. Sister had little to do except talk to the professor and make sarcastic remarks. Now she has a FBI job, and she’ll be involved with cases.

I’ll keep watching. Maybe they’ll get a format that works

The Irrational is annoying, partly because of the stupid experiments that are supposed to somehow illustrate some point about psychology. And Brilliant Minds is actually just kind of stupid. Yet another take on the brilliant iconoclastic rule-breaking doctor.

Yup, every Medical drama needs a young, inexperienced but brilliant doctor. He has to break the rules, to save his patients. LOL

I’m trying to find current shows that I like. I enjoyed The FBI the first season or two. The angsty lead Agent was my favorite character. Had some good scenes with an ex wife and child. He left the show. So did I.

NCIS Origins may be good. I will watch tonight

I really do not like Quinto. And yeah, The Irrational can be okay, but the first epi of this season was dreadful. Not only did he act irrationally but brining in “and this time, it’s personal” is always a bad move.

Yeah, and somehow, that one FBI agent is the lead agent on all his cases.

I did not care for the first episode, but I will watch a couple more.

My husband and I are watching. We never watched the original NCIS, so I hope we’re not missing out on things because of that. But so far, so good. We’re enjoying it.
