Series you've recently watched, are now watching or have given up on

Rizzoli & Isles

I started watching on Pluto, on demand.
The female lead, Jane is so short-tempered and impatient.

I’m giving the show a chance because I like Sasha Alexander as the Medical Examiner and Jane’s best friend.

Maybe Jane will grow on me.

I was surprised to see ago Donnie Wahlberg in a couple episodes. Apparently he left to star in Blue Bloods.

I streamed the English version of 19-2 from my library. I really liked it. It was a blast to see Letterkenny’s mumbling McMurray in a dramatic role and to understand what he’s saying. Some of the episodes were really haunting.

19-2 is one of the best police procedural shows I’ve ever seen. Rookie Blue was really good too. Canada had some good things going in that genre for a while.

We watched A Man on the Inside recently. I haven’t brought it up because it is … hard to explain I how feel about it. Just saying that it’s a comedy or a drama is just not right. (I won’t do “dramedy”.) It’s just a touching show. We enjoyed it quite a bit. Some very good secondary cast members. Esp. Stephen McKinley Henderson who plays Cal.

While I object to shows like The Bear being under the heading of comedy, (see the Xmas episodes), this one I’m more or less okay with. (And the term “dark comedy” rarely applies to comedic works.) This isn’t really dark, but it tugs on you at times.

I’ll look for it.

Watching Laid, a comedy about a woman who discovers that all of ger past sex partners are dying in chronological order.

I’m way late but I watched through most of The Bear. It was much more compelling when they were struggling. Halfway through the 3rd season they’ve become exactly what Richie was ridiculing about Carm’s fine-dining culinary career in the first season: carefully placing individual strands of whatever onto a plate with tweezers. It’s an offensive level of pretension, and I don’t really give a fuck anymore.

That, the fact that they resolved zero of the season’s plotlines over the course of the season, and that they classified themselves as a comedy so they could win awards, really pissed me off about the show. I cringed through season 1, thought Season 2 showed a lot of growth, and season 3 sucked.

I half-heartedly watched the first two seasons of The Bear but abandoned it entirely during the first episode of season three.

We just finished it.
My wife and I both thought it was pretty great.
I’m hoping that someone will get the message and green light another season.

Just finished off s3 of The Lincoln Lawyer.

Fair to say it has won me back after a disappointing second series. And it ends on a big cliffhanger so I will definitely be back for s4, although IMDB doesn’t have it listed yet so maybe it won’t happen.

Seemed to spend a lot less time on Haller’s family life which helped, and the chemistry between the main characters was a lot better.

Season 3 of the Bear can be summed up very simply: “Nothing happens and the bullied becomes the bully”

Finished the last of Yellowstone last night. All-in-all, not a bad series, though the last season was quite maudlin.

After linking the Keira Knightley reference in the seasonal Die Hard thread, I slid over to Netflix and wound up bingeing Black Doves over a few 3 days. Not bad, not great, I give it a B.

I watched “Charles 1 downfall of a king” and “Charles 1 to kill a king”. Fascinating!

The groundwork for the U.S. constitution was very clear.

You’re lucky to be watching it for the first time! The Wire is the 3rd-best series of all-time, behind only Breaking Bad and Succession. – These three series are VERY different from each other.

I think Season 2 is even better than Season 1.

IMO, Breaking Bad is #1, The Wire is #2, and Succession is not even in the Top 10. It was okay, but I didn’t enjoy it as much as most people did.

Same here. Others like Deadwood and Rome were far superior to Succession.

I really enjoyed Succession but the final season made me forget why I liked it in the first place. It did not stick the landing, imo.

Yes, that pissed me off also.
