Series you've recently watched, are now watching or have given up on

I’ve been spending the day binge-watching this as an alternative to leaving the house and actually getting something done.

I’ve installed Tubi so I can watch the 12 episodes of the 2011 Australian series that Laid is based on.

Okay, two episodes into the Australian version, and I’m out. It is very slow, dry, and dull.

Just finished the last episode of the American version of Laid, and it introduced a cliffhanger at the last moment. So now, I’m hoping for a second season.

We watched too. I like how it ended, tied things up. I heard that there may be a Beth & Rip spinoff.

We just finished the 2nd episode of Around the World in Eighty Days.
Both my wife and I are enjoying it.
She mentioned that it’s pretty rare, after 50+ years of watching TV, a scene can put you on the edge of your seat- which it did when Fogg takes the train over the damaged bridge.

Watched the season finale of Shrinking. It isn’t too common with modern shows that I really have no clue what direction the episode will end, and am figuratively on the edge of my seat waiting for it.

Just finished with Nobody Wants This. It was… fine. A cute rom-com.

My wife liked it more than I did; I thought there were too many unlikable characters and that the middle episodes dragged a bit. I liked Kristin Bell, Justine Lupe, and especially Timothy Simons; Adam Brody was just kind of bland.

Toward the end of the last episode, I thought they were going to leave us with a cliffhanger, but I was fairly satisfied with the ending. Apparently there will be a second season.

My wife is watching The Madness with Colman Domingo. It’s pretty intense - I had to abandon it not because it was bad but because it was stressing me out. The spouse, however, is one of those serial “L&O:SVU” watching types so she’s into it.

Her verdict as of episode 3: “I still have no idea where this is going”.

I signed up for Apple TV+ the other day in part just to watch the second season of Shrinking. And regarding the ending, it could have ended far darker though they pulled back from that at the last moment. Perhaps not so surprising given both are from Bill Lawrence but it shares with Ted Lasso an underlying interest in mental health.

[quote=“Railer13, post:5364, topic:946108”]Succession is not even in the Top 10. It was okay, but I didn’t enjoy it as much as most people did.

Yeah, for me Succession is the poster child for a show that is good, even great… but not quite as good/great as its hardcore fans are convinced it is.

I think its main problem is the lack of overall storytelling. It has these incredibly intense and dramatic moments, where who is going to win? And then… it’s just forgotten about. Too many dropped storylines.

Compare that to a show like Breaking Bad, where when Walter White overcomes (or fails to overcome) some obstacle, that change in his circumstances is ongoing.

I finally decided to watch the Sopranos. Yup, everyone else here has probably seen it.

I canceled HBO in the early 90’s. I missed out on their original programming in the 2000’s

MAX has a lot of HBO’s series. The Wire, Sopranos etc. I’ll eventually get caught up.

I’m finishing season 1. I see the Sopranos as a slow moving train wreck. Everyone is enjoying the wine and dinners while Tony tries to avoid a war. He’s likeable enough, but he has his first onscreen murder mid way through season 1. The episode I watched last night, Tony garroted a snitch while his daughter interviews at a college. A strong reminder of who he really is.

That Jeckyl/Hyde personality is what made the show a hit. One minute Tony is sweetly taking his daughter to visit colleges. Then immediately fixates on the snitch.

I had no idea Lorraine Bracco could be hot. I’d only seen her later stuff in Blue Bloods as a frumpy middle aged mayor.

Tony’s BJ fantasy with Dr Melfi under the covers was uh, inspiring. Tony is very fixated on his psychiatrist.

Congrats! The series is a pretty good ride, with both humor and violence.

Wrong thread

Knocked off season three of Somebody Somewhere on Max. It’s a very engaging series and just seems very. . .real.

I thought HBO’s Enlightened (with Laura Dern) and The Comeback (with Lisa Kudrow) were both definitely worth watching.

I’ll look into watching them. Thanks. :grinning:

Beast Games - Amazon Prime

I’m posting this because this game is getting thrashed and torn to pieces in critical reviews. My wife and I really like it, though.

It’s only aired 3 episodes of its total run, but while the first episode was rough, the next two have been better.

1,000 contestants complete, widdling down their numbers. In the end, one player will win $5 million.

The first episode dealt with 1,000 episodes and we have zero connection to them. Way too high a start number. But overall, it’s a good show.

Watch the three Prime has now and that is enough to decide if it is for you.

Note: It’s a game show, not a scripted show. In case you did not realize it.

This will probably be many (older) folks’ first experience with Mr. Beast’s style. It is not for everyone. I found myself comparing it unfavorably with the first season of Squid Games.

Yes, it is edited kind of like his Youtube videos. They should have hired a different editor.
