Series you've recently watched, are now watching or have given up on

The man became obscenely wealthy insanely fast generating content by throwing ridiculous cash at people to do ridiculous things. This guys true story could so easily be Black Mirror levels of dark. He could be a wonderful caring guy only concerned with giving back to his community but everything I sense from him says otherwise. Mr. Beast is the kind of guy to ask you to sign an NDA before the all inclusive ski trip.

I usually avoid all news about reality tv shows, but still I noticed all the bad publicity Beast Games had during the year, mostly bad working/living conditions for the contestants, but also sexual harassment and missing pay.

There’s a class action lawsuit coming up. Only 5 out of 2000 contestants signed on, so maybe the bad PR was overblown.

The Day of the Jackal a Peacock production series

The ratings had me hopeful and excited to watch. I threw in the towel after ep 2.

I find the accents difficult to understand. The plot is slow paced and confusing. I had trouble placing the characters and started getting sleepy midway through ep 2. I can’t see the point in sitting through 10 episodes.

I prefer the Jack Ryan and Jack Reacher series.

Finished A Man on the Inside on Netflix. Enjoyed it for the most part, although I figured out the culprit about halfway through.

When the time comes, I would like to live in a Senior Center like that one, with happy hour every afternoon. Probably out of my price range, however.

They do that here at Walking Dead Manor. It’s wine, but it’s a stretch to call it drinkable.

We watched the whole season yesterday. Before the final episode, my wife and I shared our theories - mine turned out to be correct.

But of course, it was less about the mystery than about the characters. The writers did a great job weaving all the different arcs together, the performances were all spot-on, and we both just loved every minute of it.

We bailed half way through No Good Deed. If your characters are going to be unlikeable, they have to, at least, be funny. Some usually really funny actors are let down by the script which is driven by a mystery I just didn’t care about.

Switched over to Season 2 of Squid Games. It’s full of plot holes and character decisions that just make no sense but all is forgiven because it’s fun as Hell.

My parents are in such a place. This is the reality of it:

Warm white wine served in a plastic cup.

We’re watching S3 of Lincoln Lawyer. It’s been quite awhile since the last season, and I’d forgotten just how tiresome this series can be. There is pretty much zero chemistry between the characters and the episodes could have been edited to a half hour. The cast of D-list actors is really obvious and I loathe Elliot Gould. That said, we’ll probably stick it out.

And stored next to the furnace, I’m assuming.

Season 1 was good. Season 2 was not. Season 3 is somewhere in the middle, and there’s too much reliance on the rather lackluster peripheral characters, especially his ex-wife who becomes a lawyer and becomes even more annoying that she’s been up til now.

There’s a cliffhanger at the end, setting up a Season 4. Don’t know if we’ll be watching that, whenever it arrives.

It’s been abundantly clear since the very beginning that she and Angus Sampson loathe each other offscreen and can barely stand to touch each other onscreen. Why the showrunners thought a romance between them was a good idea is beyond me.

That’s real dedication!

I’m about half done watching the Korean romance Crash Landing On You which was very popular on Netflix during the pandemic. I had originally stayed away from it because the set-up sounded pretty corny (a rich bitch has her paraglider blown into North Korea and meets a hunky North Korean soldier). But I read an article the other day about a defector who advised on the show and that piqued my interest enough to give it a try. So far I like it well enough; the North Korean setting gives it a fresh perspective. I wish it was dubbed instead of subtitled, though (I’m less interested in subtitles as I get older, so sue me).

Nah, we’re just running out of options.

I’m only just starting New Tricks, and I’ll be interested to see if I feel the same way when it changes.

It’s been a while but I think it’s only after quite a few series/seasons that the original group breaks up, so New Tricks is enjoyable for quite a while.

That was our same experience, many good seasons to go.

I guess I’m the only one who enjoyed s3 of Lincoln Lawyer!

I know what you mean about Sisco and Lorna though, you can just tell they are gritting their teeth every time they’re in close proximity to each other!

Well, the season 2 finale of Squid Game was a bummer. I guess we’ll find out if it pays off in 3 or 4 years.

Yellowjackets (2021, 3 se. Netflix) There are three seasons of this but only season 1 is available if you don’t have Max. My wife and I thought Season 1 was alright, a bit campy and almost tap dancing into YA fiction, but it was watchable in a stock 80’s slasher flick kinda way.

Would recommend for people who liked American Horror Story: Coven as the same sort of flavor.
