True Detective season 1, Woody Harrelson, Mathew, Matthew McConaughey

I like the actors and decided to watch. Weird is probably the best word. A detective fresh out of a mental hospital gets assigned a serial killer case?

How could that possibly go wrong.

The actor’s performances are very good. I like mixing in political pressure from up on high. It’s only 8 episodes. Seen 4.

I’ll finish it tonight.

I may skip season 2 with a different cast. The reviews aren’t good.

In about 6 months, actually.

Two seasons actually, on Showtime not Max. Season 3 premieres in February.

We’re currently watching season 4 of LEGO Masters Australia on Tubi.

I love the US version as well, but I think I like the Australian one even more. This show just makes me happy!

I wasn’t crazy about it either, halfway through. We continued watching to the end mostly out of inertia-- we didn’t have a lot of other 1/2 hour ‘filler’ shows we could watch if we weren’t quite ready to go to bed yet, but didn’t want to commit to another hour-long drama or movie.

It actually gets better- without spoiling too much (i’ll still blur, but a fairly minor spoiler), most of the characters have a redemption arc and the ending is fairly upbeat.

I think if you watch it not as a fulll-on comedy or a mystery, and more as a character study / drama with hints of comedy, it works better. Kind of like what some have said about ‘Man on the Insisde’-- not that they are very similiar shows on the surface, but in the sense that they both have comedic elements but are not really full-on comedies, and have a mystery that’s not really the central aspect of the show either. They are both character-driven shows.

Animal Control is back for season three. (Imagine an animated gif suggesting general pleasure with the development here.)

We are watching season 6 of Face Off.
It’s probably the best “reality tv contest” show after The Great British Baking Show.

The talent of some of these (usually young) artists is truly astonishing. They make film-quality prosthetics from original designs in under 3 days.

Schmigadoon

Love this show, just finished the first season. How was this not massively recommended to everyone, everywhere?

A musical show much like Galavant, a show I also love. If you liked Galavant, you are missing out if you have not seen Schmigadoon.

Good news, season 2 is even better.

I did my part in this very thread back in August. Where were you?

Just watched the pilot of “Going Dutch”, a new comedy starring Dennis Leary and Danny Pudi (Abed from Community). I was hoping this would be good, since there seem to be few good new comedies lately. But I also typically have low expectations in general for new comedies, since they are so often just so bad.

I’m happy to report, not terrible! I actually LOLed a few times.

Now that I’m getting Apple TV, Schmigadoon is definitely on my watchlist.

Currently I’m three episodes into For All Mankind and I’m hooked.

I liked both seasons and they were good in different ways. But personally I thought the musical parody elements of season 2 were a bit weaker: having an arch satire of a musical that’s already an arch satire (like Chicago or Sweeney Todd) is a bit of “a hat on a hat” (compared to a satire of something more earnest). The parody of Pippin/Godspell/Jesus Christ Superstar was pretty good, though.

EDIT: I said as much in the dedicated thread for season 2.

A good series, overall. As long as you don’t get bogged down in the laughable physics issues, it’s entertaining.

A great series if you can just convince yourself that it ends with Season Two. But the teaser for season 3 will thwart any attempt to do so.

I’m watching an amusing sitcom on Max called “The Bookie,” a wry, cynical and profane show about a southern Cal bookmaker doing business in the traditional manner.

I’ve liked all of For All Mankind up to this point. I am hoping for a season 5 soon. And it would be nice to get a clear ending.

I watched it too, because of Danny Pudi. For now “not terrible” is the only faint praise I can damn it with, too.

I do get bogged down in that because (unlike Star Wars or Star Trek) it pretends to try to be realistic. Just like I’m not bothered by “a literal demon did it” in a show like Suoernatural but it would piss me off if it was the solution on a show like NCIS.

Pilots are tricky things. Having to set up a premise, introduce characters, and be funny is not easy to do.

I thought this one showed some promise. We’ll see how it goes.
