Yeah, it’s distracting at times, like when they apparently have earth gravity in the surface living quarters, and there are way worse things than that. I try to limit my annoyance to an eye-roll.
I completely agree! LOVE Face Off.
The thing I loved about Face Off was by season three, the drama was whether the individuals could achieve their vision. No drama of living together. They helped each other! We loved that about the show. I’m ready for it to reboot.
Glow Up, a British make up show that will sometimes do an FX like challenge, is good as well for the same reason. Can the Make Up Artist achieve their vision in the time they have and impress the judge. I also like the format of getting another chance.
I enjoyed s3 more than s2. It has some nice twists. If that is the case with the actors who play Sisco and Lorna, I have completely missed that.
We do enjoy watching that, although the word “conflab” rankles every time.
Population 11 (Prime, 2024, 1se.) a light thriller staring Ben Feldman (‘Jonah’ from Superstore) is alright so far. The missus and I are 4 episodes in and I bet we’ll finish the 12 episode season. Essentially a murder mystery in a Western Australian town of 11 people with a dash of humor.
A friend and I got hooked on Face Off when it was originally airing. The range of talents that were shown by the “contestants” was amazing.
I just watched a couple of music bios. The Christmas one on George Michael. I liked it, it was sweet. Then I watched “I’m Tim” which is the story about Avicii. So damn sad. He was such a damn talent, but he was apparently just tortured in his mind. I’m happy to have learned more about him, but it did make me cry.
I really enjoy WhiteCollar. I have not watched the last episode yet because I just don’t want it to end. I have such a crush on Willie Garson.
I liked the Young Wallander series. I wish there was more than just the 2 seasons.
A.P. Bio on Netflix. Glenn Howerton is a former Harvard philosophy professor who, through backstory that’s not important here, ends up as the teacher of an advanced high school biology class in Toledo. He’s not qualified for the job, nor does he intend to try to do it. Rather, he involves this roomful of smart kids in various schemes of his own. I’d recommend it as “watchable” if you like It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia and are curious to see what Dennis’s twin brother (in spirit, not “in world”) is up to while you’re waiting for the next season of Sunny. Featuring Patton Oswalt as the ineffectual principal.
Finished the first two seasons of The Diplomat. Somewhat slow paced and dragged out. The whole story line for the two seasons could have easily fit into one season. Too many times are main characters thinking "Oh, goody. This is going to happen!’ And of course it doesn’t. Politics is not that predictable. The 2nd season at least had a couple great highlight scenes. Each nicely set at the end of an episode.
I guess we’ll watch more when they come out. But pick up the pacing folks. Finish a story line in a season and move on!
I’m also rewatching it but having problems and am worried I will stall out, as I did with BSG. I think it’s a combination of several things. Seeing them in a row is tough. Too easy to spot the patterns and the flaws. I know for TV, they have to make it obvious to the viewer, probably on the first viewing, but it makes moves so obvious, how does the bad guy not see it?
I do agree the range was huge. Was it second season that had someone who had no right to be there and quit on his own? That definitely felt like it was someone picked for drama.
Is that what you meant by “contestants?”
That’s a fair point. Get ready for more of it.
Thanks for the discussion!
I’m watching Monster (Anime). I’m at episode 68. I’ve loved most of it. I think my next show will be a short anime; maybe The Detective is Already Dead.
I watched and loved this when it was on “regular” tv a couple of years ago. Are these new episodes on Netflix?
I watched E1 this afternoon and kept falling asleep. I’ll try again, I was actually tired.
No, it’s the already existing episodes. Nothing that would be new to you if you watched the show when it first aired.
We were going to watch the latest season of “Shetland”, but realized that we’ve forgotten the previous eight seasons, so started with S1 again.
Season 5 started filming last July, so fall 2025 would seem to be the quickest we could expect a release.
I think Ronald Moore or whoever has said they have a plan for up to 7 seasons. (Never a good idea to trust Moore when he says he has a plan, however).
Also, they’ve announced a spin-off called Star City, which will be told from the perspective of the Soviet space program.
Got done watching Chicken Nugget. It’s a delightfully insane Korean show about a young woman who turns into a chicken nugget, and the adventures of her father and friend who are desperate to turn her back into a woman again.
Dune: Prophecy is keeping me entertained, has a little bit of House of the Dragon feel to it. Emily Watson, Olivia Williams and Mark Strong are the most recognizable cast members to me.
Also working through One Hundred Years of Solitude, which is done completely in Spanish and which I’m not totally sure that I like. it’s a fairly unique setting, that’s for sure.
I just finished Black Doves. I enjoy spy shows so liked it fairly well. There are 2 minor characters (Williams and Eleanor)-the 2 women who do violence for hire that I loved. I wish they would do a spin off for just those 2!
I watched the first episode (maybe 1.5 episodes?) but I didn’t get into it. Maybe I would have liked it more if they had played it a bit deadpan rather than very broad humour.
Station Eleven
My wife and I are, I think, quitting this miniseries. We liked the opening episode…but it has been meandering and boring. We aren’t fans.
I wonder if it got better.
