I’m currently watching Agatha All Along. It’s right on the verge of being silly but so far (I’m halfway through) they’ve managed to not cross over the line.
I enjoyed season one but heard s2 wasn’t great so didn’t watch it. I enjoyed s2 a lot when I finally watched it! I started s3, I waited that long on s2, and I’m finding it hard to get into it. There are too many things that could go wrong with the plan. I also found it annoying when he is pressed for time but then stops to tell a half hour story. I do like the lead in it, though.
I think I liked s2 for the reasons some didn’t, which is Reacher is supposed to be a loner but s2 was about a group of people. I liked having a group compared to one person.
As for the movies, I think I have read two Reacher books so knew Cruise didn’t meet the height requirements but he seemed to have the attitude just fine.
I need to get back into What We Do In The Shadows.
I enjoyed this but there were times I had to ignore big plot holes.
We tried to get back into it and in a rewatch, Harry is always a schmuck. I think it’s easy to ignore it during a first watch because I wanted to like him. It made a second watch too difficult and we never caught up.
I somehow got through a lot of seasons of this as something to watch but I did question why Gibbs was in charge a lot. I think the two hands, one keyboard, is very early in s1, but kept going for all of the other characters but not Gibbs. Too bad Michael Wetherly turned out to be a complete ahole due to Bull and what happened with Dushku.
I binged this and I’m not a sports fan or the biggest Hudson fan but I agree that it was a lot of fun!
bunch of fargin iceholes.
For anyone confused like me, this is on Prime, not Netflix.
As someone else mentioned this is a crime drama and it isn’t actually Japanese, but a BBC/Netflix TV production, The main Japanese detective is played by the same actor who played Ishido in the recent Shogun series. He was partially chosen because he could already speak English, not always a given with Japanese actors.
If you are interested in crime/mystery dramas, another one that is now available on Netflix is Galileo where Physicist uses his knowledge of science to reluctantly help the police solve crimes. I find it amusing, but your mileage may vary.
This is one is fun, but definitely one that is more fun if you get the cultural references. The same is true of Aggrestuko (also available on Netflix) which is great anime series that deals with workplace relations.
One thing to note is that in general Japanese drama’s do not get a second season. Usually they are one and done, with a few exceptions. There is usually a definite end point that is unclear until the final few episodes. This is refreshing to me as you aren’t left on tenterhooks at the end of a season.
Started Dope Thief on Apple+. The first episode was pretty well done with some actors I’m not familiar with. Basically a couple of small-time drug thieves find themselves in a whole big pile of doo-doo.
Do you have the Augustan family tree handy? One came with the DVD set I got 20 years ago and it made it all a lot more comprehensible than my first viewing on PBS a million years ago.
I probably should get one. I have been going back and forth to Wiki and some other sites and compare disparate accounts of the same events. I’ve been doing a lot of historical reading lately. Rome, up until Christianity ruined it, is fascinating. I keed, but it’s more fun before Jesus came along
I watched the first two episodes of Pixar’s Win or Lose on Disney Plus. The conceit seems to be the physical manifestation of anxiety. The first episode was cute and had a clever conclusion, but the second was downright depressing. Is there any reason to finish the season?
I also like Rome and Roman history. I majored in history and liked Rome back then. Took several classes on it and Latin. I haven’t used the real knowledge as much as I want. I would suggest the Colleen McCullough Masters of Rome series. It’s been a while but they had a lot of detail.
I just finished Penguin and I guess it’s a version of him. I’m not sure what to think of it.
Have watched the first two episodes of Adolescence and it is absolutely gripping. Plus the acting involved and the requirement to get the extensive choreography right in one hour-long take is amazing.
