Series you've recently watched, are now watching or have given up on

I’ve been enjoying Matlock but worried that they might drag out the whodunit part too long, but the last two episodes have made me very happy. I’m really glad Olympia started putting things together. Maddie and Edwin and Alfie are smart, but they’re not invincible. I like how it’s all coming together.

We’re ~3 episodes behind on Matlock and getting bored with the lack of progress. (And the stupid “The trial is starting tomorrow, let’s get researching it!” trope.) So, good to hear.

Finished Blackshore that I mentioned above. Not really satisfying. They did a setup for a 2nd season. Probably won’t watch more. We know what happened and who did it. But don’t really care about a season of trying to actually nail the Big Bad.

My wife and I just finished The Åre Murders. Agreed, it’s more of a picturesque study of small-town Swedish life than a gripping murder mystery. It was alright, but felt longer than 5 episodes that were all 45 minutes or less.

Speaking of snowscapes, we started watching a Netflix comedy called ‘North of North’ about a young Inuit woman in Nunavut who feels smothered by her controlling husband and wants to have an enriching life of her own, instead of just being a stay-at-home wife. So there’s a serious undercurrent below the comedy and generally jaunty tone of the show. One episode in, it seems watchable.

The new season of Dark Winds just isn’t good.

Yeah, I’m not at all impressed with the effort.

I started watching Hacks. So far it’s not my favorite but I’m enjoying it.

We are also struggling with it…and we really looked forward to it.

Love Hacks- it does start out with Ava being so cringe-worthy but it gets better, one of our favorites. Jean Smart is a legend.

As did we. They should have stuck with the tribal police and dropped the border patrol subplot.

After I see some of the hype I wonder if I was right to abandon it after season 1. I’m glad to hear I wasn’t wrong. It one of the few shows my wife watches alone. I just hate all the characters.

They pretty much have. Now it is the “the Sheriff thinks he sees monsters and visits the spirit world” show. Bring back the border patrol, I say.

Yeah, I’ve thought about that aspect; thing is, the spirit world is a big part of the Navaho belief system, so I guess they wanted to chase after that. But up til now, Leaphorn hasn’t shown any deference to the old ways, so this sudden change is jarring.

Yeah, we were two episodes behind, and I was having trouble generating enough enthusiasm to watch them. But I was happy with the progress.

You’re supposed to.

Yes. In the books, Chee is the one who gets very deep into the spiritual rituals, not Leaphorn.

But if you hate watching them then it’s an easy decision to not watch at all. You’re supposed to want to watch.

People watch for different reasons.

The side story with the new Border Patrol agent isnt completing to me

Yep.

No accounting for taste!. :grinning:

The last L&O epi- the ADA won- vs an -IMHO0 innocent man. The ADA brought in two pieces of bad evidence-

  1. A drop of the victims blood on the suspects jeans- But the victim was shot from 20-30 feet away- no blood would have gotten that far. 2. The detective saying he thought the gun was a 9mm that was tossed-- He couldnt even tell what make it was, guessing Glock or something else- but the standard glock comes in .40 and .45 also, and it is impossible to tell them apart during that situation- other than the hole in the barrel, they are all pretty much identical.
Any decent defense would have made sure the blood was never introduced and called out the detective for lying.

And the water isnt “too cold” for diving- they have dry suits if needed- they use them in cold water- which never gets much below 32 F. Mind you, sure it makes it harder.

Based on input upthread, my wife and I watched Ludwig on Britbox this weekend. There are only five episodes - that’s not the entire season, right? I assume there’s a new episode each week? We really enjoyed it and are looking forward to more.

One thing that’s throwing me off. I recognize the Chief Constable as the guy who played “Finchy” on The Office, but there’s a Sgt Finch in Ludwig and it always takes me a second to realize they’re not talking about “Finchy”.

Yes, they drop on Thursdays.

I’ll have to go back and try again. I was watching the first episode but dozed off and lost the narrative. It’s strange to see Whitaker from The Pitt not talking in an American accent.

watched 5 this weekend, 6 will be the last for this season of ludwig.
