Made it about 10 minutes into episode 1 of The Pitt, when we saw the injured leg, we checked out. Mutual decision.
Watching Jason “Ozark” Bateman in The Outsider, a Stephen King adaptation, also on HBO Max. Just watched episode one, but I think Inna already guessed the twist… we will see.
Yes it’s not a network show. They can be much more realistically graphic. It doesn’t bother me in real life and the fake stuff on tv certainly doesn’t bug me. If you have a problem with graphic depictions of wounds then this isn’t the show for you.
Actually network crime shows have gotten pretty graphic in the past, maybe, 10 years or so. Between the various CSIs and shows like Bones, I’ve seen all manner of expertly-crafted props of horribly burned, mutilated or rotted corpses and body parts.
Showing a birth in full graphic detail is where the networks would draw the line, though, I’m sure.
Latest episode of Dark Winds was an hour of dream sequence, which I normally hate. It was an interesting take on the plight of Indian children regarding child molestation, however.
I am near the end of The Devil’s Plan on Netflix and I want to re-state how great it is.
If you are put off by reality show competitions, don’t let that stop you. This one is:
highly intelligent and features intelligent people
is one of my favorite set of people to be in a reality show competition. They are all so nice and supportive of each other. One of the players personal goal is to get everyone to the final instead of aggressively trying to get others out. They cry sometimes when someone is knocked out
There are fun secrets that the players discover(or don’t actually)
I see season 2 is coming, but I don’t know if I can fall in love, so to speak, with a new cast after watching this season 1 one and liking every single person.
Bad Sisters (2022, , AppleTV, 2 Se. so far) 4 episodes in and it’s pretty good. 5 Irish sisters are pretty close when they decide to kill the asshole abusive husband married to one of them. Will they get away with it?
Loads of interesting characters and the Irish theme is delicate but important for flavor. Recommended for those who like comedy/drama with spice similar to Desperate Housewives.
The wife and I just watched Mo (On Netflix, 2 seasons), loosely based on comedian Mo Amer’s life.
Mo plays a guy named Mo, a Palestinian immigrant living in Houston. Mo is proud of his heritage but also fairly settled in Texas. He’s dating a Mexican-American and dealing with his family. He starts out hustling knock offs to make money and grows into working on his family’s business. He makes mistakes along the way and some of the stuff seems pretty far out there but they tell a good story and the ending is really interesting.
Perhaps best that you stopped watching before the episodes featuring the outcome of a mass casualty incident. It’s a great show that I recommend but yes, it’s gory.
I’m enjoying the animated version of Devil May Cry on Netflix (8 episodes). It’s by Adi Shankar, who worked on the animated Castlevania and who created the truly bonkers Captain Laserhawk: A Blood Dragon Remix. I’d compare it favourably to Invincible so far (and it has been renewed for a second season, apparently).
The latest series of Grace aired recently (or currently, depending on how you source it), which is a murder mystery drama starring John Simm grimly whispering a lot and refusing to allow himself to be happy. I generally enjoy them, as the setting and characters entertain me, but the finale episode for this block was utterly terrible. Poor writing, poor acting, atrocious cinematography and editing, and a disappointing limp story. If it had been ep2, pushing ep3 to be ep4, it would have worked far better as a dip in the middle, but instead it just left me annoyed.
Thanks! I was gaslighting myself here, I’d already heard of this show but was half convinced I was misremembering the name since people were so excited for this “brand new show.” Remade in less than 20 years? The new all-CGI “Matrix” must be getting close…
I haven’t seen the 2007 show, so I can’t comment on if it’s a remake or just a different story using the same intellectual property. But Shankar’s Captain Laserhawk uses Assassin’s Creed IP and it definitely has little to do with the 2016 Assassin’s Creed movie!
There’s a nice BBC police procedural called The Chelsea Detective running on Amazon Prime that we’re liking a lot. Not a lot of personal angst or scenery chewing, just a team of competent, sometimes quirky, professionals going about their jobs. Well written, well acted.
