Even in 1971?

Passed in 1970, but there were similar- but less stringent laws earlier. Besides in Dark Winds they talk about the issues of Navaho and drugs, and those things were expensive. You’d lock them up just for those reasons. Might not be up to Federal standards, true. However, by season 4, we are likely later in the 1970s, according to how things went. The internet says S4 is 1972.

The wife and I just finished A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms. Fun show, with a smaller scale story compared to Game of Thrones. Dunk and Egg are great characters.

We are also working our way through Fisk. it’s an Australian comedy where the main character is a lawyer who takes on a new job with a small firm run by a brother and sister. It has a nice balance of dry humor and wacky “this word is crazy” kind of humor. I enjoy it.

Fisk hits the sweet spot for me. I’m not sure I LOL’ed very often, but I smiled a lot.

This show is what the Game of Thrones franchise needed.

For some reason I watched the first couple of episodes of Paradise and stopped. I liked it but got distracted by other things. For some reason I thought it was much more science-fictiony than it was. With the new season I went back and finished season 1. I’m convinced it’s impossible for Stirling K. Brown to be bad in anything. For the most part it was quite enjoyable.

Watched episode 1 of season 2. I won’t spoil anything that went before for anyone. This episode was an interesting change. It introduced a new character played by Shailene Woodley and followed her story. It sets up some interesting questions for this season.

Oh yeah, season 2 is out, thanks for the reminder. I thought S.1 was pretty good, and I’m intrigued to see where they go with the new development at the end of S.1.

The first 3 episodes dropped. The full season will be done by the end of March if you want to wait and binge.

I’ll second that. I really like Kitty Flanagan in her role. She just nails the tone of the character and the show perfectly.

After having watched The Righteous Gemstones, we checked out Vice Principals, an earlier Danny McBride joint (also featuring Walton Goggins and Edi Patterson).

It didn’t grab me from the start like Gemstones did, but it grew on me, and I was fully invested by the end. A fun ride. Neal Gamby is kind of a rough draft of Jesse Gemstone.

My wife is not interested in watching Eastbound & Down. I’ll be adding it to my on-the-road rotation.

My wife and I are three episodes into Paradise. It’s…OK. I was surprised at the major twists so far.

I dunno, it’s only OK for us, though. At least So Far.

Now FROM, another kind of mystery show, is great. That should be back pretty soon.

I watched the first three episodes of S2 when they dropped yesterday; from what was in those three episodes, it looks like the show is definitely going to ratchet up the science fiction element.

The debate is going to be what the “Alex” device is at the bunker. They threw some strong hints that it has something to do with time travel, but that could be misdirection.

How to Get to Heaven from Belfast (Netflix, 2026, 8ep.) We just finished it, recommended. Though I am not sure I understood all of the big reveal. I’ll have to go back a watch a few things, but the show’s great so I don’t mind.

Vanished with Kaley Cuoco. An beautiful archeologist (Cuoco) meets a charming hunk in Europe, who disappears while they’re taking a high-speed train across France. Is he a murder victim? Or is he an evil villain? Or something else? If you don’t guess the surprise ending by the end of the first episode, you need to watch more crime dramas!

The film gives beautiful views of Marseille and the French countryside. Cuoco has to deal with the mystery in a country that’s foreign to her, with problems in language and dealing with the authorities. In many ways it reminds me of the Ripley films.

Not the deepest mystery, but a decent diversion. And it’s only four episodes, so almost just a movie.

I just watched the Movies for Grownups awards with Alan Cumming- who- of course- is great. Adam Sandler’s acceptance speech is hilarious. The Oscars should be like this.

We tried How to Get to Heaven from Belfast and bailed after 4 episodes. It started out with in intriguing premise, but the main characters seem to do nothing but scream at each other (and everyone else) and a very odd character (a young woman with a kewpie-doll voice) was introduced who was so annoying that we just couldn’t watch any further.

Reaction to this series has been split between those who love it and those who hate it. The plot is quite convoluted with many, many characters involved and for us we just couldn’t register enough interest to keep sorting it all out. That’s on us, though. You might feel otherwise.

Admittedly, the series did sag a bit in the middle, but picks up when it gets to the exploits in Dublin. That annoying character is a bone thrown to fans of Derry Girls.

Binged the last 4 episodes of s4 of The Lincoln Lawyer last night. The main plotline is pretty good and hard to guess, but the side-plots focusing on the other cases handled by the firm are all pretty weak. Still, it was entertaining.

And the last scene certainly leads one to believe that there will be a Season 5.

Still watching The Beauty (FX/Hulu). I think the writers are just making it up as they go…and it works! The episodes are weird disparate lengths (23-55 minutes - I’m curious how that works on a commercial cable channel like FX) and are fairly…episodic? They often devote a whole episode to a flashback which is much easier to follow than the frequent short interruptions used in many shows.

The last episode began with a hilarious commercial for the drug:

Just finished the most recent season of The Night Agent. Not a bad plot line. The hero loves to tell people “Look at me!”, which is an annoying meme.
