Series you've recently watched, are now watching or have given up on

Every time I see this show mentioned I wonder if the title was inspired by the old old old UK series called The Fall and Rise of Reginald Perrin. But it sounds like the story is completely different.

Oops. I should have read a little further.

A second series of Ellis has just concluded in the UK. Far too short, only two stories broken into four episodes. The plots were hardly original, but I love these characters, so I want more.

I saw that video a few years ago and just loved it. I was tickled that the Jason character and actor seem similar in…mannerisms? I’m sure the actor is at least 30 IQ points higher than the character.

We’ve only watched one episode. If they lean into the broad humor, it might be worth sticking with. If they try to hedge the story with any real introspective drama, I think it will fall flat. But, if seven years of watching a Steve Carell character say cringey things wasn’t enough for you, this is your show.

Just saw that a new season of Deadloch has dropped. I didn’t like the first one so probably won’t watch, but I know a lot of people here did enjoy it, so it’s on Amazon Prime.

The lollipop flip-and-catch thing Jason does was all Manny’s creation.

Really, the casting for the show perfect all around.

We just finished S3, and what I’d say is almost no episodes have passed by without something annoying happening, whether it involves plotting or characters, but on the whole the series has managed to just hold it together enough.

There’s a little too much soap opera, in particular I don’t give a damn about Schroedinger’s Wife, but we like it well enough to keep watching.

I’ve been trying to watch House of the Dragon on HBO. It’s a follow-up series to Game of Thrones (for those who live in a cave). I’m not going to be able to stick with it. It’s just. . .boring. And for those who thought the sex and nudity was over the top in GOT, this one has full frontal male nudity and even a scene of a woman performing fellatio.

I really enjoyed it. I watched it all towards the end of last year and thought it a worthy successor (ok predecessor) to GOT. Some of the dragon riding action scenes were amazing.

I watched “jury duty”. That was a wild ride.

Season 2 “company retreat” is starting out rather well.

I just rewatched the first 3 episodes with my daughter. That’s exactly what she said when she saw that card.

I watched Dead Still on Acorn. I thought the premise was interesting- a guy who photographed dead people in Victorian times and it had its moments, but the continuing storyline was hard for me to give two shits about. The show was well cast, well acted, and well shot but it lacked a little something. I wish it had been given a second season, with a better plot (no pun intended) it could have been a very good show.

My criticism was about series 5, so I’m curious what you think of it once you get there.

Series 6 starts in the UK next week. I hope I like it better.

I watched the first few episodes of Fisk, an Australian sitcom. IIRC from what I saw online, it seems to have gotten generally good reviews and I know there’s mentions of it in this thread. It had it’s funny moments, but overall seemed kinda dull. I haven’t decided if I’ll keep watching it or not.

We watched the first episode of ‘R.J. Decker’ last night. New ABC series we watched on Hulu. 3 eps released as of now.

The titular character is a former photojournalist and and ex-con who went to prison for something he didn’t do. Now he’s a P.I. in Florida. It’s very much got a light, not super-serious ‘Rockford Files / Magnum P.I.’ thing going. A lot of ‘Florida Man’ jokes, or digs at how weird Florida is in general.

Verdict? Eh, not bad. Will probably serve as a decent weeknight watch with one eye while surfing the internet on my iPad with the other eye.

I just binged How to get to Heaven from Belfast yesterday, and I loved it. Maybe because I binged it, I had no problems following it. They doled out the clues in dribs and drabs so you have to put everything together, yes, but it wasn’t difficult. The only thing I felt was a little unsatisfying was what exactly Greta’s mom did to be the “big bad.” Lots of LOL lines. I felt a second season was implied. I hope there is one.

One other thing: the actress who played Booker played a nasty villain in the Suchet-Poirot version of The Blue Train so her eventual unveiling (heh) as more of a goodie than a baddie was a nice surprise.

Nora was abusive. It’s why Greta (previously Aisling) was disappeared in the first place and how Margo ended up with her.

Once we finish the last episode of The Lincoln Lawyer Season 4 we’re done with it. Season 1 was a promising start. Lots of potential there, but then Season 2 stunk. I don’t even remember 3. And 4 is just dull. This isn’t helped by having the lead character played by an actor with zero charisma. They’re already promoting a 5th season. No thanks.

Yes. It was just all very tentative though.

I’m not 100% sure what you mean by tentative in that sentence. But, I’ll say that throughout the show the girls were sorta guessing at what it was. Not knowing much beyond it being some sort of trauma that happened before they knew her, IIRC, they landed on it being the fire, which makes sense.
Then, at the nursing home, Robyn says:
I saw the light in your eyes. The adrenaline running through you. You enjoyed that. You enjoyed saying those things. I see what you are. And you must have been a force to be reckoned with in your prime. What f*cking chance did she have? The fire wasn’t the big bad, you were.
