Late to the party, watching Ozark. The description was lame, so we overlooked it. But we loved it, and more to come.
We just finished season one and really liked it. I am not a big fan of Ricky Gervais sneering holier than thou humor, but this was really good and worked really well. Humor, feels and some pretty dark moments.
Just started season two, I am not sure if they can keep it going , a bit too many " I am in PAIN" repetitions but season one has enough credits to carry it through for a while.
He’s a bit formulaic, for sure: anger, then pathos, then realization and redemption. Season 3 had a pretty schmaltzy end to it (and the series, I’m pretty sure).
Love Gervais. And of course, The Office was originally his.
Man, I loved that show. And I didn’t even like the lead character. The Norwegian supporting cast was top rate and hilarious.
We’ve been doing some BritBox lately and finally ran across one that was so bad we gave up after one and a half episodes. Crime Totally horrible show, probably the worst one we ever tried to watch from the UK.
I thought I’d give Midnight Mass (Netflix) a shot. I thought we were over vampires at this point. Does it get any better?
Just watched Wolf Like Me. Josh Gad is a widower father getting interested in a new woman. But there’s something about Mary…
Started watching MacGruber. Decided that the OTT sex and violence comedy was not so much “edgy” as “an extreme form of dicking around” and gave up before the end of the first episode (although Laurence Fishburne should definitely do more comedy). That said, I do like me some Maya Rudolph.
Started watching Super Crooks instead, which is more promising thus far.
I love all of Ricky Gervais’ series - The Office, Extras, An Idiot Abroad, Derek, and After Life. I’ve been watching outtakes of these shows on TikTok. So funny!
Spent a lot of time in bed with Covid over the weekend and watched the first 2.5 seasons of Bob’s Burgers. Was aware of it but never sat down to watch it and knew little about it aside from H. Jon Benjamin voicing both Bob and Sterling Archer (and that one Archer ep) and seeing Tina gifs once in a while.
It was aight. I can both see why it’s managed to stay on and also why I never saw anyone reference it the same way as a Simpsons, Futurama, Archer or other quip generating shows. I usually got at least once sincere laugh per episode but sometimes there were stretches in an episode that seemed to drag. I won’t make a point of finishing the run but it was a pleasant enough way to spend some bed-ridden time between naps.
People liked it generally speaking. I thought it missed the mark badly. It was just about Mystery Science Theater bad, IMO.
We’ve started watching Freud on Netflix. It’s an unholy mashup of Sherlock, The Mentalist, and Penny Dreadful, with a wafting stench of retconning Freud into being a feminist, among many other things he was not. Despite that, it’s oddly watchable. I just wish they had picked someone other than Freud as the protagonist.
Update on my Disney+ joy. I burned right through both WandaVision, which I loved, and Falcon & Winter Soldier, which I mostly did, but it kind of lost me at the end with an absolutely endless speech by Sam. Moved on to the Star Wars subchannel and watched season 1 of The Mandalorian, which I loved unreservedly. Which is a bit of a happy surprise, as I lean more towards Trek than Wars in my Star fandom. But it was pretty amazing.
Back to Marvel for Loki, and I’ve got one episode to go. And it’s…fine. I guess. I love Hiddleston’s double-takes, and I’ll watch Richard E. Grant read the phone book, but overall it’s left me pretty cold and confused. It’s unfortunate that both Marvel and DC are pursuing the “multiverse” concept, repeatedly, right around the same time; it’s only going to lead to direct comparisons. Personally I thought the Arrowverse’s Crisis crossover a couple of years back hit it out of the park, and Marvel simply doesn’t have a deep enough back catalog on TV or in movies pre-1998 to pull it off without ourobousing up its own behind.
Just watched S1E1 of Orphan Black. One episode in and already lots of unanswered questions. It may be a keeper.
Late to the Yellowstone party, just finishing up season 2. Enjoying it very much.
Fargo: Add me to the list of those disappointed in Season 4. Loved 1-3, only watched two episodes of S4. Just couldn’t get into it.
Oh yeah, just finished all nine seasons of 24. Yep, 204 hour-long episodes. This was a re-watch for the most part.
mmm
Weirdly, I found Loki to be the best of the recent Marvel miniseries - better than WandaVision, Falcon/Winter Soldier, and Hawkeye by a long shot. And I thought it was one of the better treatments of the concept of both a multiverse and how a “timeline” works.
Unfortunately for you the last episode of the season is the worst, with a tedious 11-minute scene containing a lot of explanatory monologuing. But at least things are explained, I suppose.
I’m just gonna say it. I don’t have the energy to scroll through all these posts so I don’t know if it’s mentioned good or bad, but I just finished See and I really liked it. The first episode or two I was rolling my eyes but once I adjusted to the premise of blind people thinking the seeing are witches I really had a good time with it. Some of the battle scenes were hard for me to watch. Game of Thrones level violence. The scenery was gorgeous. It was filmed in Canada but I believe the setting was supposed to be Pennsylvania.
Nobody talks about it much. I hadn’t even heard of it when my daughter suggested it. I like Jason Mamoa enough and I think he did great in this role. There are things you have to just not focus on like how they adorn themselves when they’re blind and likely would have no use for that sort of thing but there are blind actors on the show and blind people were consulted so maybe they’d know more than I would.
I got through season one of See, disbelief was not only suspended, but vigorously expelled , and it was fun. I started season two but wasn’t sure I was up to the gore levels ( it was a show to watch when exercising, so torture, excessive gore or too much sexy fun times is a bit offputting and I dont want to poke myself in the belly button on the forward rowing stroke). Which reminds us me I need to get back at that and watch Yellowstone season 2 and will likely get back to S2 of See.
Just about to watch season 3 of After life, we liked S2, not as good as S1 but good enough to elicit some feels, I would imagine S3 is the last, and I am really not holding out much hope for my favorite cast member to survive. The psychiatrist was a bit over the top and not that funny , other than being creatively crude. The cast are all good and it’s a bit of a who’s who in British comedy, I think all of them have been on 8/10 cats does countdown or similar panel shows (I get lost in scrolling through out takes of those shows)
Well, this has taken a hard left into American Horror Story style story-telling, with a large helping of gore. I am still unsure whether I would recommend it.
We just finished season 3 of After Life. Wonderful show.
Watched it last night. I’m still somewhat in the dark and overall the series was the least-satisfying to me of the Marvel Disney+ shows so far.
