The classic show with Raymond Burr was an hour long, probably 50 minutes with commercials and beginning and end titles.
Other than that, it was pretty much as you describe, just longer and slower moving.

I finished watching series 5 of Slow Horses. Virtually none of the loose ends from Series 4 were wrapped up, except that the answer to my third question above was apparently “no.” And I expect the loose ends from series 5 will not be explained either. I’m getting a little frustrated by this, even though I suspect it is to allow further developments of some kind in some future series. And how is an intended assassination of Whelan a “sting in the tail?” It wasn’t part of the original plan, it was a personally-motivated attack, and anyway Whelan was a bureaucrat whose loss would affect nobody. I did love that last shot of Lamb taking care of some personal business, though, it’s a killer.
Still no details about series 6, I guess it’s due out in about 6 or 7 months. But we know some things about the plot from the previews shown at the end of series 5.
I thought it was very good, especially in season 2 when the show hit its stride. The cancellation was a bummer. Rhys, Lithgow and Chris Chalk are always solid, and Juliet Rylance was excellent in the Della Street role.
A couple of years ago, I was in Los Angeles for work and on a weekend, I went to a couple of the museums downtown. After that, I walked near the Angels Flight funicular railway and rode it uphill, just because I remembered it from the first season of the Perry Mason series on HBO. (Note that it’s been moved from the original location that was pictured in the series.)
Angels Flight was also a main cog in the plot of one of the Bosch series on Amazon. And the name of a Bosch novel by Connelly.
I’m glad to hear S2 is better. It’s on Max.
I’ll keep watching.
From is back for season 4 after around a year and a half. Even with the “previously on” it is a challenge to remember all the crazy crap that is going on here.
I don’t remember if the series was discussed only in this thread or if it had its own thread. Discourse’s search function isn’t helpful.
I just finished the season. I really enjoyed it. It was a nice easy watch.
Watched the first episode of Ludwig on Britbox and was surprised how much I liked it. Similar premise to ‘Monk’ (which I found tedious), but actually funny. I might be biased as I find David Mitchell hilarious.
I loved it, and can’t wait for more.
I’ve seen a few articles pop up about series 2. There’s no release date given yet, but I expect it to be imminent.
This is one of the shows that I’m looking forward to rewatching the entire first season/series to catch up with the plot.
Finished watching Unfamiliar on NetFlix. A decent modern-day spy story, but with a LOT of flashbacks which led (me, at least) to a lot of confusion. And, in the end, it was hard to tell who was on what side. Plus, the unsatisfying ending makes it pretty obvious that there will be a season two.
Still, overall, entertaining and fast-moving.
The Continental 2023
Peacock
There’s only 3 episodes. I guess it counts as a series.
I watched episode 1. It’s pretty good. I’m glad its a short series. I wouldn’t watch 18 episodes of that much extreme violence and killing.
The Continental is a prequel that depicts how Winston gets established in the organization and becomes manager of the hotel.
I did laugh when the civilian in the hotel bar asked for a drink and paid with cash. Signaling that she wasn’t in the organization.
Come On. It can’t be unusual for civilians to wander into a hotel. They wouldn’t now it’s exclusively for assassins.
Have you ever walked into a place you know right away was not meant for you specifically? As the feel descends on you you might still order a drink, but you chug it and leave never to return. I’d image Assassin HQ: New York Branch gives this vide to tourists and locals alike on purpose. A bartender that caters to a shady clientele would want to be polite to a civilian, but make it as awkward as possible. “Perhaps you’d be more comfortable at O’Malley’s down the street, they have a drink special now.”
Yeah. I see your point.
They were polite but it was obvious every staff member was armed.
In my quest to justify my subscription to Apple+ I’m going through all the series that look interesting. The season finale of Monarch is tomorrow. I just finished season 1 of Silo and will be starting season 2 soon.
I’ve been in a place like that a time or two. Never awkward enough to turn around and walk out. That would be conspicuous. I did drink my one drink in a hurry.
Hey bartender, Is that a gun in your pocket, or are you happy to see me?

That happened to me once. It was a run-down, nondescript bar I had driven by a million times. I don’t know why I decided to stop there one day-- I’ve almost never gone to bars to drink alone. I might have had an argument with my wife or something, and just wanted to get out of the house for a little while.
Place was deserted except for the scruffy 50ish bartender / owner and, I guess, his wife. I sat at the bar and ordered a beer. “Uhh, ok…” the bartender said, seeming surprised I was there and wanted a drink. They both watched a 'Law & Order" rerun on the bar TV while I drank my beer in silence. Other than the beer transaction, not a word was exchanged between us, and nobody else ever showed up. Very creepy vibe. I finished my beer and got the hell out of there.
A couple months later the place closed permanently. I’m convinced it was some sort of money laundering situation, or other criminal cover enterprise. Or, maybe they were just terrible at running a bar. Who knows.
I have now officially given up on Will Trent.
Oh god it’s gotten worse!
Will is battling the supercriminal mind of Ulster’s daughter. Who apparently has the power of teleportation and invisibility, and I am not kidding. Plus the whole love/hate thing and supercriminals taunting the hero are BORING!
They’ve paired up Faith and Wormwood a couple times. I think they should just rename the show and focus on them. Nothing wrong with Angie, but her pregnancy takes her out of the episodes except as an behind the scenes helper.
PS Amanda has been shot. AH-gain. Maybe dead, maybe not. Who can say. Always in motion is the future. (plus I haven’t seen yesterday’s episode yet.
)
