Series you've recently watched, are now watching or have given up on

Recently finished Scavenger’s Reign which leaves Netflix May 30. The main star is the creative alien ecosystem. Folks take escape pods to alien planet where they try to survive. Flashbacks explore their personalities.

Murder at Evensong is quite good, though they do in six episodes what probably could’ve been handled in five. I hope there’ll be a second season, since there are half a dozen books.

The second series of Death Valley has begun. Timothy Spall as a pretentious actor solving murders in a small Wales town. The adorable Gwyneth Keyworth as his co-lead. A lot of silly British fun.

We watched S1 of Paradise and really liked it. A few days ago, we started S2. I liked that it was from a different perspective. We watched the first couple of episodes and were intrigued. Then they went back to S1 characters. Neither of us could remember who did what and who was who. We’re out!

Just finished the way too short first season of Ludwig. It’s one of my favorite shows in recent memory.

Just yesterday started on the long, classic journey that was and is Gunsmoke–got the all-in-one DVD, and have finished the first three half-hour outings from 1955, and it seems it may be living up to its notices.

I’m in the market for a 20 minute long (ie: normal) sitcom at the moment, something to start our evening of tv watching. Anything good around recently? We’re finishing off Reno 911 with the restart season from a couple of years ago, but got nothing after that to fill that slot in our evening (before we start main serious shows). Any suggestions of something fun? Streaming service doesn’t matter, we get ours via ahem other ways.

Community.

Ok, will have to list the shows I’ve seen, Community, How I met your mother, Harley Quinn, It’s always sunny, Parks and rec, Better off Ted, 30 Rock and Unbreakable Kimmy Schmit. I was hoping for some recent sitcom suggestions but has it been years since a decent one has been around?

The last sitcom I watched was Small Prophets, the new series from Mackenzie Crook. It’s just as charming as Detectorists and Worzel Gummidge, but a bit more magical in its theme.

Another good one was Leonard and Hungry Paul. A kind of a fable, I suppose.

For a recent (still on, I think) show, Abbot Elementary.

Santa Clarita Diet
Letterkenny
The Good Place
Better Off Ted
Eastbound And Down

Only one on there not seen is Letterkenny, never got Eastbound and down, probably too cringey for me.. Seen Abbot, Santa Clarita, Good Place, Better off Ted.

Seems I’ve missed a Season 7 of Reno 911.

I also did wonder if this question should have its own post…

Being in the UK, popped by iplayer and realise there’s two seasons of Diane Morgans Mandy we’ve not seen so that should suit us for a bit, she’s also known for being Philamena cunk. But suggestions of recent comedies still welcome.

Inspired by the Scrubs reboot, I’m doing a rewatch of the first 9 seasons (well, 8 seasons and a weird tacked-on 9th that was supposed to have been a spinoff). It really holds up.

If you liked Reno 911 you might enjoy Tacoma FD. It was created by, and stars, the same group that made the Super Troopers films (Broken Lizard).

And here’s the trailer that got me to start watching Tacoma FD.

We are only two episodes in, but the show is a delight so far.

Liked season 1 of For All Mankind a lot. Not happpy that the time jump to season 2 caused me to hate half of the characters I used to like.

If you’ve watched the last two, I presume you’ve also seen Girls5eva (by some of the same writers).

The rest of my recommendations would probably be repeating what is in this older thread:

hey, I started that thread. Forgot all about it…but we still have a hard time finding new series. We did enjoy Tires on Netflix and are enjoying the Fall and Rise of Reggie Dinkins. We liked the 1st season and a half of Severance, though my wife hated how season 2 ended and has lost all interest in seeing the next one.
