Series you've recently watched, are now watching or have given up on

I’m catching up on this and have watched the first three episodes of the final run. Hasn’t disappointed so far. The MAGA satire continues to be as subtle as a sledge hammer though! It’s a testament to the show that I have no idea who is going to come out on top. It’s not the type of story where the good guys always win, so I wouldn’t be surprised either way.

We’re almost through with S1 of Chance with Hugh Laurie and Gretchen Moll (2016). It’s a pretty good twisty thriller.

I finished this last night. Fine series with excellent acting. The plot jumps around a bit, but overall, an excellent watch.

Recommended.

I’m slogging through the last episodes of Leftovers. It has been a strange journey and only the good acting has kept me around. But for some reason, in the final season, the writers opted for farce, which really doesn’t work. Mel Brooks, they ain’t. Anyway, I’ll watch it to the end just because reasons.

Am I the only one who thinks Justin Thereaux (sp) of The Leftovers looks a bit like Jim Garner (The Rockford Files)?

I don’t see it. With the beard he looks a little like my youngest son, minus the abs.

You are. I love that the actor from Leftovers wrote Tropic Thunder, Zoolander 2, and Iron Man 2.

A little bit, I suppose. I didn’t recognize him at all in the most recent season of The Comeback, though!

Huh???

Lord of the Flies (2026)

Only two episodes into this 4-episode adaptation. It’s a good version of it so far. I read the book in high school and really liked it at that time. I’ve never re-read it, so its been 30+ years.

Well done. Kids do a great job acting.

Legends was a fun watch. This thread comes through again.

I wanted so badly to like this. But the pacing is just so slow. It could have done with a lot less of the nature footage and musical interludes. If this were edited down to a movie instead of a miniseries I’d have loved it.

ETA: While watching the first episode with my wife, at the end of it I said “I could have finished reading the book by now.”

I had basically the exact same thought, except I came down on the side of still liking it overall, even though it does drag at times.

I am surprised it is 4 hours long. I"m half-way and liking it, though.

I think I said essentially the same thing upthread. It was a great miniseries, but they could’ve edited out 15 minutes of each episode that was just b-roll. It’s almost like this was the director’s cut and what we needed was the TV version with each episode being 45 minutes instead of an hour. Or 3 episodes instead of 4.

At least the acting was great. If I happen to see any of them in another show/movie, I’d probably watch it.

I have to admit that I thought the last season was the clunkiest; some people love the storyline with Kevin and his mystical mumbo-jumbo in the land of the dead, but I thought it was kind of dumb. I liked everything with Carrie Coon, though.

I found myself getting impatient with it. The farce part of it (using a penis for identification, the access code being 6969, etc.) seemed like it was written by a 12-year-old. The ending was fine, and I agree with the actors being very good, especially Coon.

So you’re saying… it was “ridiculous”?

I mean, just so we’re all clear, you understand that alternate “realm” or whatever is the product of his oxygen deprived brain, yes?

Of course not.
