Getting towards the end of Widow’s Bay and one sequence in the episode about the Boogeyman was the funniest thing I’ve seen all year. Great stuff.

The whole minute of that sequence was superb.
Well, the two main characters DO jump off a fast-moving train, which ends that particular ride.
Picked up the bluray set of Star Trek: Lower Decks on sale this week and I’m watching/re-watching my way through the series.
Way way back in this conversation a Canadian sitcom called “Corner Gas” was highly recommended. Whoever did that, I thank you. I had never heard of this series and may never have tried it without your heads-up. I’m hooked on it. Just the sort of thing I like to see before I retire for the night. It’s refreshingly goofy, often very funny, and there are lots of episodes. Not every episode is great, but they’re always entertaining and the characters are endearing in their own peculiar ways. I’ll be sorry when I run out of episodes.

I know that I am way late to this one. I just started watching One Piece on Netflix this weekend. I am not usually a fan of Manga, but it was recommended by my friend and so far it is really fun.
I binged the reboot of Grand Tour on Amazon this weekend and I have to say the new guys understood the assignment. Looking forward to season 2.
We enjoyed the first two seasons of The Hardacres on Britbox, looking forward to season 3 in a year. I was expecting the Beverly Hillbillies in Victorian England but got a well-written and well-acted drama instead. If you like period dramas this is for you. They pretty much saved all the big plot twists for the last few episodes but the character development was first rate.
I really like the live-action show. I am still occasionally tempted to start the anime but then I realize there are 1,433 episodes and counting.
Other viewing: we’re watching Lanterns and Stuart Fails To Save The Universe, each of which has its own thread. We’ve also started Adults, which I have yet to find funny but the difference in zeitgeist between this show and previous sitcoms about groups of friends living together is kind of fascinating for an old-ish guy like me.
I noticed that as well. I get the feeling that they won’t be finding the One Piece treasure anytime soon on the live action show.
I just finished a re-watch of The Gentlemen in preparation for the recently released second season. Season 1 was good the second time around but Reddit isn’t very enthusiastic about season 2 so we’ll see.
We’re watching Season 2 of Deadloch, a police procedural dark comedy that takes place in Australia.
The writing and directing of the show are so good, and the control of the tone so masterful, I am continually impressed. To strike the perfect balance between irreverent comedy and violent crime and real pathos is no easy feat. This season features a family dynasty alligator rivalry and more great lesbian jokes. The show also seems to make perfect casting choices, even for characters with bit parts. They simultaneously feel comedic and totally believable.
My one complaint is the accents are so thick. I’m picking up about 75% of it, both because of the accents and because the characters are frequently having multiple conversations at once (mostly Eddy screaming obscenities at people.) I’m following the main beats of the story just fine but I’m probably missing some humor.
Is it significantly different in tone from the Brokenwood Mysteries? Brokenwood never gets very dark, though certainly there can be sad bits.
Haha nice last sentence! i, too, am glad to see her on TV again, especially since Vee’s (i mean Shanola Hampton’s) show ‘Found’ ended up being very meh.
i love the entire cast of ‘Furious’ and i like the show’s various takes on power in the wake of trauma.

I’d say it can get pretty dark. And definitely some gruesome moments. Not recommended if you’re squeamish about body parts.
We’ve stalled around episode 3 of the new season. The main character has broken so bad, he’s unlikable. Guy Ritchie doesn’t exactly have the subtlety of Vince Gilligan.
I filed this in the back of my mind and remembered how much I enjoyed watching the original Perry Mason with my mom as a kid (it was in syndication then, I’m not quite THAT old). I watched a couple episodes the other day and @wolfpup is so right. It’s really well written, if formulaic, and holds your interest all the way through the throwaway joke that ends every episode. Identifying those old cars is loads of fun! My one gripe is the background music. It is so loud that it sometimes obscures the dialog.
I’m glad to have found another fan! Incidentally, not every episode ends with a throwaway joke, although that’s pretty much the standard formula. Occasionally an episode will end on a dramatic note, then launch straight into the credits.
I agree with you about the background music. It never struck me as particularly loud, more that it can occasionally – just sometimes – be so prominent that I’m aware of it, and that’s never a good thing. A background score should subtly add to the ambience without the viewer being directly conscious of it.
