Such a cute little girl, does she think she is still that child star?

Working my way through season 5 of Rick and Morty on Netflix. It’s very Rick and Morty - bleakly comic, with lots of sex and drugs and gore and morally questionable decisions.

Working on the latest season of Billions as well, speaking of morally questionable decisions. Most of the characters are consistent with previous seasons, but Chuck appears to have gone off the deep end. “He’s offering them scholarships! We must stop him!”. Sorry - why are we doing that again?

The loss of his archenemy has really hurt the character. Prince is an interesting character, but nowhere near the villain Axelrod was; yet Chuck keeps treating him like he is.
I want to believe that’s part of the point - something about how he needs an adversary to feed into his true nature or his ego or some such - but I fear the writers just don’t know what do do with him anymore.

I finished Swap Shop on Netflix. The yard/estate/ antique junkie in me loved it. And Murdock Mysteries is back! I have to remember all the characters and names now.

Huh, I seem to remember liking it even more than the first, but I admit that’s a hazy recollection.

I just gave up on OA on Netflix. The wife is still way into it. We started at some point part way through the series and I can tell you I’m not going back to watch the stuff I missed. There were just way too many ridiculous things going on. For example, a guy get locked into a room with just a bed and no apparent exit. This is supposed to be a scary sequence. Its dark and he is using a rag soaked in paint thinner as a torch. The torch burns out. So, what does he do? Hops on the bed and takes a nap. Of course. When he wakes up, he grabs the bottom of the bed frame at the foot of the bed and lifts. I mean, who wouldn’t? Turns out its hinged at the head of the bed and there’s a secret passage under there. And that’s just one of many examples.

 You have encapsulated that series (and you were too kind, IMNSHO). I mean, dance, dance baby.

Season 5 of The Last Kingdom has dropped on Netflix. I liked the first four, but episode one was kind of all over the place.

I see that Better Call Saul is returning on April 4th!

When you finish that, don’t miss El Camino and Better Call Saul. Especially the latter.

Just finished Westworld season 1, and I’m debating whether to continue.

Season 1 was very good, Season 2 was good, and Season 3 should never be spoken of. If it comes back, I’m curious to see where it goes.

I would say you missed something special. I can’t say I remember the bit you’re complaining about, frankly, It does seem weirdly out of context but even if it was there, I’d say forget about it and ride with wave. It’s a show which takes so many left turns you’d expect a circle. But you’re not ending up anywhere expected.

Just watched The Witchfinder. The first episode fell pretty flat for me, but it got better. Think something somewhat similar to Miracle Workers seasons 2 and 3.

We just finished the two part documentary series on the case of murdered journalist Kim Wall. (HBOMax) Really I think it could have been just one 90-100 minute movie instead of a two-part series, but that’s a minor quibble. Overall, it was a fascinating rundown of the case that tried hard to highlight Ms. Wall and not sensationalize her killer. In doing so, I think they gloss over some of the “reasons” behind the killing a little too much, but I still enjoyed it (as much as one can “enjoy” such a horrific story).

If you don’t know about the case, I recommend going into the documentary as cold as possible - it’s a wild ride.

Thanks for recommending Rake. I just finished the second season and I’m having fun. It is set in Sydney, and I lived in Melbourne but they are basically the same place except for the weather.

My dad grew up very poor (his bedroom was the verandah of a tiny Collingwood house) but somehow made it through to law school at Melbourne Uni. He became a barrister at the age of 22, and a Silk (QC) in his mid thirties. He was then a county court judge, and then something else which I can’t say because it would identify me. At the same time, my mother worked for VACRO which was a non-profit that looked after the families of people who were in prison. So I spent a lot of time around the courts, chambers and prisons in my childhood. A fair amount of this show rings true, and it brought a smile to my face. Thanks.

We’ve started watching The Dropout on Hulu. A lot of familiar actors and it’s pretty good so far.

Wrapped-up Archive 81 on Netflix last night. For the most part, I enjoyed the series, but I felt let down by the ending. Yes, I know it ended the way it did to pose questions that will inevitably lead to a second series, and yes, I know they didn’t owe me a happy ending. I don’t want to spoil the series for anyone planning to watch it, so I have to leave it at that. I just wish every series didn’t have to end in a cliffhanger for a sequel that may not happen for a year or more, if at all.

Just finished The Tourist on HBO Max. The first five episodes were a fun rollercoaster of a thriller with a lot of interesting characters and good acting (Danielle Macdonald is great!) The sixth and last episode kind of seemed like they weren’t quite sure how to wrap it up and was just a bit too heavy for a show that had a good thread of humor running through most of it.

Oh, it was there. It was the same episode where a giant octopus latches onto and “channels” through the protagonist. While she is on stage in some sort of secret nightclub/theater and its in a giant tank behind her. Then she escapes through a underground tunnel that floods on an (apparently) regular basis yet still has bare light bulbs (lit, no less) hanging from the ceiling. I understand that you have to suspend disbelief sometimes but this wasn’t my cup of tea. To each, his own.

That was so much of a dead end I had to go and look it up, I couldn’t even remember that bit. But I suppose starting halfway through completely loses the vibe. The second season needs the first for foundation. I think I’d probably abandon most things if I started them halfway through…
