Euri, you’re new so I know you don’t know all the protocol here, but generally anything directed towards a specific poster (rather than their opinions) belongs in the Pit, at least if it could reasonably be construed as a personal attack. (Friendly threads directed towards a specific posters go to MPSIMS.) And while calling most people here a homosexual would be either a statement of fact or an amusing misconception, I doubt it is so for ORION.

Not to defend this Orion guy, whom I gather from the other posts in this thread is bigoted against gays, but when did “hate”=“secret love”? Why aren’t they just bigots?

Why did this “homophobe”=“closet homosexual” thing start? I’ve been hearing it for years, and it never made sense to me.
The reference is to “internalized homophobia,” where one lashes out at what one actually is, but doesn’t want to be. If you’re black, you’re black - there’s really no hiding it. If you’re gay, however, you can very effectively remain invisible if you really want to be, and the internal struggle it can cause can manifest itself as vitrolic anti-gay bigotry. There have been some interesting studies on bigots and internalized homophobes, and I have a way cool book at home, but no stats to quote at this time.
Have you seen “American Beauty” yet? There’s an example of it in there.
