Seriously ladies(and fellas) aren't mustaches ridiculous?

Ok I’m a guy and I want to know what women think, but guys can comment as well. Don’t men with mustaches just look ridiculous and lame to women and really to other guys too? It seems to me if you want to reduce your sex appeal to absolute zero then a mustache is the perfect way to go. Now granted there are exceptions like Tom Selleck but even he would just look better if he went clean-shaven or full beard. Facial hair can definitely be attractive but it has to be a full beard, five o’clock shadow, or some other facial hair variant that can incorporate the mustache area but the mustache by itself always looks just awful.

Fashions come and go. There isn’t anything intrinsically silly about a moustache. When they’re neat and trim and tidy and there isn’t a build-up of snot in 'em…they can be kinda cute.

Most us guys try one out at some point in our lives. Mine didn’t pass family muster: both my sisters said, “Get rid of that awful thing.” Sic transit gloria.

The Hitler 'stache was the best by far. Too bad Hitler went and ruined it for the rest of us.

I’m not a facial hair fan at all. Something short and well-groomed with edges taken care of is sort of OK. But in general, as a female with sensitive skin, I don’t like it. One boyfriend grew a goatee once and stood his ground on keeping it until he saw my face after a makeout session. Pretty much rugburn and roughed up enough to have little scabs on my upper lip and chin. Which I knew would happen. He apologized and shaved. Some guys may have soft enough facial hair, but I have yet to date one.

When I see a dude with a mustache, especially if it touches his upper lip at all, I can’t help but think about the last time he ate soup. Or cereal. And what rotten food is lingering there. Plus what happens if he needs to blow his nose? (Well, I know what happens, and short of him doing a quick soap-wash in the sink and especially if it’s a thick mustache - ew) I think they can sometimes look OK, they’re not always silly looking to me, but at the same time they’re unattractive because ew.

Wasn’t there a recent study that measured the bacteria found in beards? I just can’t get on board with facial hair that’s more than like a week’s worth. Hey, I get it, who wants to have to shave every single day? That’s not fair. But ew.

Dear god how did we ever take that name seriously? How?

The 'stache was cool though.

Do you REALLY want to get on the bad side of these guys?

Back in the 1970s and '80s mustaches were all the rage. In the '90s they died out, thank goodness, and unless you’re sporting a full beard and mustache it looks as ridiculous as a woman wearing a petticoat non-ironically.

Generally I would say yes, but I will make an exception for Jack Huston.

I can’t grow a proper mustache so I prefer to call it Prison Pussy!

laughed when I read the thread title … it takes a certain face and facial hair genetics to pull of a mustache by itself … some guys look absolutely ridiculous but some look ok and some look, dare I say, good with a mustache … it’s really a case by case thing

I can no longer take this post seriously. I’ve worked around too many people with Serious Beard Reek to Ever consider this as appealing instead of as a form of human-repellant.

I have a mustache. Are mustaches ridiculous? Maybe to some, but I’m not a serious person I really don’t give a single fuck what people think about the way I look. I think I’m fucking beautiful and that’s enough for me.

Cool 'stache.
Also cool 'stache.
More cool 'staches.

I was about to warn that a thread like this normally hoovers up all the minority viewpoints, and gives a distorted picture.

But this time, “meh” seems to be the best response, so I reckon case closed.

About twenty years ago, I shaved my moustache on a whim. My daughter looked at me, burst into tears, and said, “Daddy, put it back!” So I did, and have kept it ever since.

So not everybody thinks moustaches are bad.

Shodan

Almost forgot:
Coolest 'stache ever.

Meh. It’s not for you, it’s for me. That area is hard to shave and shaving cream makes me sneeze.

I’ve seen many styles come & go.

Clean shaven is often best. Even a full beard can be OK if it’s well groomed. (Reading a book on Sherman in Georgia. At the beginning of the war, 10 young men from one town marched off, swearing not to shave until the South won. All of them survived the war & lived to be old men–with very long beards.)

Some men look fine in mustaches…

Yes please. But he’s the only one I can think of and even then, I’d prefer him without.
I’m old enough to remember when they were in style the last time and despite my yuuuuuge crush on Tom Selleck I remember thinking ‘he’s so yummy and would be *really *delicious without the stash’.

I tend to think of mustaches on American men as being pretty high on the macho cool-o-meter, IF they can pull it off, otherwise it’s the height of absurdity.

Problem is, maybe 1/100 men can actually pull it off and not look idiotic.
