Might you get rid of it soon?
Specific for straight men:
Do you think they look good on most guys?
For those attracted to men (women or gay/bi men):
Do you think they look attractive on most guys?
Does your current SO wear one?
Any particular moustache/beard/burns turn offs?
I used to wear a fairly long Fu Man Chu. But, my 'stache is incredibly blonde. On a tanned face, it was an interesting sight, but I grew tired of the maintenance. Plus, I guess I just got tired of the look.
I grew out my beard last month, but got rid of it. I look like a nightmare version of a U-boat commander with my blonde moustache, red beard, and multi-coloured hair (blonde, light brown, red, and a touch of grey). A couple of my women friends said it looked attractive in a bad boy kind of way, but most of the reactions were more like, “So, you gonna shave?”
I kept the 'stache til today, but again, I got tired of it, so I am now bare faced. As opposed to bear faced.
Yep. Had one for about 20 years, and only recently (about two years ago) grew a goatee around it. The goatee may go one day, but the 'stache is here to stay.
I have a goatee currently. Back in the day, I stopped shaving and getting haircuts the day I graduated high school. Actually the day after, since I shaved for the ceremony itself. Anyway, I carried the beard for about five years, then went to a goatee, then to a mustache, then clean-shaven. I was clean-shaven (except for sexy George Michael-style stubble sometimes) for several years. then I grew in a goatee last October for a Halloween costume. People told me it looked hot so I decided to keep it. It’s generally trimmed and I plan to keep it for the foreseeable future.
I don’t have a particular preference regarding facial hair as long as it’s neat. I do hate the “beard without mustache” look. I don’t understand why any non-Amish man would grow it.
I have worn a mustache and beard, trimmed away from my mouth, cheeks and neck, for over 20 years. I grew it to cover a scar, so until facial scars come back into fashion, I’ll keep it. I think everyone should grow a mustache and beard once and decide for themselves if they want to keep it. At least it provides something readily changeable for an SO to fixate on, distracting them from deeper personality flaws.
I have a beard now. I had a goatee before entering the military, then had a moustache for a while, until I was convinced that I look silly with just a mustache. Went facial hair-less for a while, until I woke up recently and realized that I didn’t have to shave anymore. I’ve only trimmed it a few times to a goatee in the past couple months, but usually I’ve only been shaving my neck. I like to keep the beard short since it gets itchy if it gets longer than a quarter inch…
As for my opinions of what’s on other people’s faces, I generally don’t care, but I do think that large sideburns, the beard without a moustache, and the ‘long-tailed moustache that obnoxious dad guy from American Chopper has’ all look pretty stupid on pretty much anyone.
Trimmed. It’s a very thin affair by nature and I couldn’t make it bushy if I tried.
I thought it would look cool. It took a good bit of time to get the goatee right, but once I did the moustache and oft-overlooked connectors were a big part of it.
No. I’d probably look a good deal younger without it, for one thing.
It really depends on the guy and the moustache. I do find it unfortunate that beards seem to be out of fashion these days, but sometimes you see somebody with one that’s a total failure and you understand why.
My hair is all black, but when I attempted a long beard, interestingly, some light hairs popped up. Sometimes they were even blonde. It was pretty weird.
Actually, I think I’m opposed to most facial hair. Except for some people who I couldn’t imagine with it. I have some friends who have grown them and looked like losers, and some that I think look marginally better with.
To me, I guess it it boils down to whether I met them with one or if they later grew one.
So, I just wanted to see how close to median I am in my opinion.
Full beard and moustache here (I really hate those leprechan-looking beards with no moustache). Had the moustache for 35 years, the beard off and on again depending on the vagaries of the U.S. Navy over the years, but now firmly in place. Wifey likes it, me likes it.
[]Yes, I have one.[]Varies. My facial hair doesn’t grow very fast so I go several days between trimmings.[]I hate shaving there. I’d grow a beard if I could but all I get is about 1/8" and then it becomes irritating.[]No. I don’t go clean shaven unless it’s in preparation for some sort of costume or if I plan to visit my parents.Don’t really have an opinion of how they look on other guys.
Every Christmas, I spend two weeks growing a 'stache for the annual Moustache and Turtleneck Party. No, I’m not kidding. The first two years, I went with a straight-across-the-lip, child molester looking 'stache. Last year I grew out the handlebars with it.
I’ll also occasionally grow one out for team road trips, just for luck.
As far as looks, I think dudes with 'staches look like dirty perverts, or State Troopers. Also, I’m straight, since that was asked.
I’ve worn a moustache for 30 years. I trim the bottom edge, because I don’t like chewing on it. I tried a Fu Manchu for a while, but it didn’t work out. I’ve got blank spots at the sides of my mouth. It’s been mostly brown from a distance, but it always had 5 colors in it; white, blond, red, brown, and a few thick black ones. The white ones are now gaining in number, as I’m 54.
Facial hair rather suggest to me “not a dating prospect”. I might think it looks cool on an older guy or interesting on a younger, but I don’t really want to date it. For one thing, I don’t want it tickling my face, and for another, it almost always makes you look bad. Especially if you’re growing that beard because you’re afraid another chin might fall out if you shaved it.
I’m reserving the right to change my mind on a case-by-case basis, but I kinda doubt that’ll happen. As a rule it tends to look 1) skanky in a child molester kinda way, 2) like a leprechan, or 3) like a hermit who lives on a pillar. A preacher’s beard arrangement, nicely trimmed, might escape the Curse of the Facial Hair… but probably not.
Remember that guy in middle school who thought he was so cool because of his dirty-lip moustache? Men with facial hair often still look like that.
Did for a year, when I was young. I’m very fair-haired, and it didn’t really show well. When I shaved it off, nobody really noticed, except for one co-worker who scrutinized me the longest time and then asked “did you just get contacts?” (I’d had contacts for years). So, I guess it wasn’t the most successful 'stache.
Just before shaving it off, I asked my wife what she thought of it. She looked at my sad bush and said, not unkindly, “you have to remember - you’re not my first mustache”.
Ouch.
Curiosity. I had a week off after Christmas (thank you, Auto Industry!), and I stopped shaving out of laziness. I shaved everything but the mustache when I went back to work, just to see what it would be like.
Most guys can’t pull it off successfully. David Niven, maybe. Gene Shalit. Most everyone else needs a full beard with it - and most of them don’t look very good either.
