It’s interesting that Mark drives a nicer car (a 1990s Volvo) than his boss does (a 1980s VW Rabbit). And that Lincoln the bigwigs use must be 50 years old.
It’s a perk of using cult members: you don’t have to pay them much. I wouldn’t be surprised if the severed workers made much more that the Eagan faithful.
I think in the finale the faceless “board” is finally revealed when it demands they get Harmony back to fulfill the mission. In the final scene we see that the board is none other than Bert himself. He makes his final demand over the intercom. “I know what Lumon needs right now. We gotta have more Cobel!”
Well done!
ha. That’s pretty damn funny.
Great cowbell joke. But I think Burt is evil. That whole dinner scene was weird. Burt put Irv on the train to send him to his death. That’s my theory.
Walken and Turturro are the biggest stars on the show. They didn’t sign up to be minor characters.
Ohh. I hope not. Bert’s just a goon and is probably going to get in trouble for taking Irv to the train station instead of to the other goons that do the killing. I suspect this is really the story of the wheels coming off Lumon’s metaphorical car that is as decrepit as the actual cars in the show.
I thought it was interesting that they didn’t bother to change the Adirondack Railroad logo on the engine.
I can’t believe that! I had that thought for a brief moment, but it just seemed too over-involved and complicated, even for the Severance universe. If Lumon ever wanted someone dead, they’d make it happen quickly and with minimal fuss.
That said, as a viewer, I am trained to not take things at face value, so I definitely (cold) harbor some feelings that Irv’s “escape” is maybe part of a more complicated plan on the part of Lumon. just not his death.
And there’s also no particular reason for her to answer cryptically. If she’s going to answer, she’s already revealing Lumon secrets and breaking her oaths and previous loyalties by admitting that Gemma is alive and might die.
I disagree - Cobel has desires that are not in concert with Mark’s and Devon’s. She wants back into Lumon and the severed floor, she presumably wants some form of credit and recognition for her invention, and she may want some form of vengeance against those within Lumon who she feels wronged her and stabbed her in the back.
Until we understand Cobel’s motivations a little better (is she trying to use Mark as leverage against people within Lumon? Or is she trying to upset the entire applecart and destroy Lumon? Or is her motivation more directly related to Gemma than to Lumon?) it makes sense that Cobel would still keep secrets from Mark and Devon. What’s her motivation to just explain everything?
Whatever Cobel’s motivation for helping Mark is, it’s not altruistic. However, I think Bert’s motivation to help Irv was. Cobel wants vengeance. Bert wants salvation.
ETA: Am I the only one who can’t type Cobel without it being autocorrected to Corel?
I didn’t like the writing where Devon called Cobel. It felt like one of the smartest, most practical characters making a stupid move just to move the Cobel plot along.
They could’ve done a better job of painting her into a corner. At that point Rhagabi was still there and still in relative control of the situation and was telling Devon exactly what a dumb move it would be to call Cobel and Devon did it anyway. They should’ve had Raghabi leave and maybe Mark takes a turn for the worse and she called Cobel out of desperation maybe.
I know it’s a minor point but Devon is one of the few/only characters willing to react in a practical, smart sort of way consistently without being a fucking kooky ass cultists or a dipshit that I hate seeing her make a stupid move that’s out of character.
You mean Mrs. Ricken?
From her perspective why should she trust Rhagabi, a strange woman doing brain surgery on her brother behind her back and with him not doing well.
Devon has her own idea and trusting Rhagabi ain’t it. Talking to innie Mark is. And if Co el is the only way to do that then that is the less poor choice.
Yea, I got the sense that Devon’s plan was to use the cabin room to talk to i-Mark and Cobel was a means to an end.
GAAAAH! Like, minutes away! (Squeee!) So excited.
At this point, I won’t dispute even the possibility of Cobel, standing at the front of the table, is blocking someone to be revealed— Outie Mark, Jame, Helena, the chief goat herder, Gemma, Burt— and it turns out that person is “the board”, is in charge of the company, which is to manufacture Girl Scout cookies. The tempers are really recipes.
Or maybe it’s a goat. A big goat. That talks. That needs temper info to regulate world wide goat milk sales.
As far as Devon and Cobel communique, or lack thereof, I think they talked for a long time that wasn’t shown. I figure Mark went off to sleep in one car while the other two spoke in the other car. Devon seems prepared in a way when she welcomes innie Mark inside, for what feels like the 10th or 12th time. I think he kept leaving and popping back in the door like with exit doors.
So… Happy Severing! Back after air!
I like your theories, but this isn’t right. Innie Mark has no idea what’s happening when he comes in the cabin. If it were the 10th time, he’d know it.
Ah! Good.
But, maybe he went up the stairs, doesn’t like the goat-in-charge hidden behind Cobel, then runs!

And what happened to Cobel’s huffing BF?? Tune in soon…
Hot take - some great bits but I’m overall feeling a bit disappointed.
Really? I thought it was fantastic. They could have left so much more up in the air than they did. I appreciated it. The only way I’ll be disappointed is if they make us wait 3 years for the next season.
