It’s okay I don’t mind too much-- I’m mostly just curious about the Data, and i’m slowly collecting it every time this thread rises up to the top
but yeah, it’s probably best not to hijack this too much.

Yep. Point taken; my bad. I’ll take it to PM with Marley and then ATMB if need be.
Carry on!
No problem.
Where’s the “I’m a lesbian trapped in a man’s body option?”
I’m just the same, except female. I consider myself ‘hetero-flexible’. I’m mainly attracted to men (though some women are hot), and I probably count as straight for all practical purposes. But if I fell in love with a girl one day, I’d be perfectly happy to pursue a relationship with her.
That’s “other”. Along with “I’m a small, fuzzy, hermaphrodite alien from Rigel IV trapped in a man’s body”.
You too? I thought I was the only one! The weather’s nicer here than Rigel IV though, wouldn’t you say?
Well, for the most part, but the Chicago winters do rival those of the Rxzld!*zxyd mountain chain.
Well here’s the thing- what do YOU consider yourself as? I’ve heard this a few times (not just here)- people want to try to fit themselves into their “proper” categories, but why not just go with what you feel best summarizes you? It’s sexuality, I don’t really think there’s a right and a wrong here. If you’re a bi-sexual who has never had sex with a certain gender how does that differ you from a virgin who’s never had sex with their preferred gender?
I think if you’re open to the option that’s nice, but it’s mostly what do you SEE yourself as- not what have you done that could justify your answer (Though it’d be nice if people didn’t just put down straight when they’ve only had sex with like 32 guys or something, but if they honestly feel that they’re straight and had some sort of valid reason for not pursuing women but males instead, then who am I to disagree with that?)
FTR, I’m not a 50/50 bisexual, but I identify as bisexual because there isn’t a better word/modifier to describe my relative levels of gayness versus straightness. The vast majority of my experience is heterosexual (like, 97%), but I do have same-sex fantasies and attractions, which I would act on should the situation present itself (it just hasn’t…I’ve either been in a monogamous relationship with a guy or been single in an appealing, available, lesbianlessness). The majority of my fantasies and attractions are directed to men, however (probably 70/30). But, I can’t (and don’t want) to deny that a size-able non-heterosexual chunk of my identity exists. In terms of dating, I have no qualms about dating either a man or a woman, or someone who doesn’t meet the definition of either of those (intersex, transgender). Genitalia aren’t that important to me in that regard.
I would guess that there are a lot of people who aren’t exactly half-and-half, but aren’t 100% straight either, as Rala and magnusblitz and some others seem to indicate. The definition is kind of faulty, with bisexual not necessarily meaning, but often taken to mean, equal attraction-behavior-desire for both sexes.
Kinsey had his scale, but Lauman [sp?] advocated 3 (or more) areas to determine orientation: behavior (and intent to willingly continue to participate in that behavior again), desires/fantasy, and self-identification. Lauman figured that these different areas would give a better picture of orientation in terms of men and women on the down low, or “potentially” bisexual individuals who had never actually engaged in same or opposite sex activity.
Obviously, 2/3 here, and 1/3 there.
From: Kinsey Scale
0 - exclusively heterosexual
1 - predominantly heterosexual, incidentally homosexual
2 - predominantly heterosexual, but more than incidentally homosexual
3 - equally heterosexual and homosexual
4 - predominantly homosexual, but more than incidentally heterosexual
5 - predominantly homosexual, incidentally heterosexual
6 - exclusively homosexual
It is necessary to consider a variety of activities in assessing an individual’s ranking on the continuum:
· fantasies · dreams · thoughts
· frequency of sexual activities · emotional feelings
Therefore, many “heterosexuals” would fall, in fact, somewhere between 0 and 3 because they occasionally think/dream/fantasize about sexual activities with members of the same gender and/or occasionally act on these feelings.
This allows for a bit more blending of both objective and subjective factors.
Not a criticism of the poll here, just saying that to get more nuance from the responders, different questions would need to be asked.
Sigh. Straight male here, so boring. I have type O+ blood, too. And my real last name is Smith. Not only that, but I’m about to go on my third date with a girl who’s strongly hinted she’s, um, kinky-- and the prospect strikes me as much more likely to be awkward than exciting.
Maybe I should retire-- or move to a country where they still think an exposed ankle is as racy as things need to get. You know, like England.
And I was wrong. There are five other asexuals here. A pity I can’t see who voted for what. I have some questions I’d like to discuss.
As of this post, 300 men and 169 women have responded.
Number Percent
Straight Male here 253 84.3%
Homosexual Dude here 25 8.3%
I like em both! Bisexual Male here 19 6.3%
No thanks. I'm Asexual. And I'm a guy 3 1.0%
Straight Female here 108 63.9%
Homsexual Dudette here 17 10.1%
I like em both too! Bisexual Female here 41 **24.3%**
No thanks, I'm Asexual. And I'm a Girl 3 1.8%
Percent of homosexual men and women seems to be about the same, as does the percent of asexual men and women. However, the percent of bisexual women eclipses the percent of bisexual men (24% vs 6%).
Not sure if this is only on the Dope, or is a society-wide fact.
Also, not sure if it’s because women are indeed more likely to be bisexual or because men are “afraid” to check that box.
Female. Bi. Or maybe just a slut.
Start a thread!
I answered Female Hetero, but a gay friend of mine has told me I’m the most bent straight person he’s ever met.
I did a girl once, meh. I wasn’t sure before, and was sure after.
No offense was taken, QtM, in fact, had I thought of that earlier, I would have probably used that very idea. Though I did also want to include genders, but I didn’t want to be so arrogant as to start TWO polls on the same day and similar topics back when this polling this was still new.
Though i’m VERY pleased to see that I’ve gotten 500 data points- it maybe one of the larger polls here next to the Political one.
You could try an “Ask the Asexual” thread to see if you can rustle them up, or just simply start a thread trying to ask if any of them would like to talk to you about their experiences, either in public or perhaps via PM if they’re shy?
