Shadowrun Returns is out today!

More than a year ago, I backed this game through Kickstarter because I love Shadowrun and have loved it since it came out in 1989. And now it’s a reality! If you’re into Shadowrun or old-style immersive RPGs with a lot of text and some pretty nifty graphics, check it out!

I hear the Steam servers and the HBS website are getting a bit hammered now (I can’t play until lunchtime, alas!) but keep trying!

Picking it up tomorrow. I never played the PnP or the original video games, but it looks like a game right up my alley.

I’m downloading now. Getting good speeds but definitely not my peak for Steam.

Been looking forward to this one for a while.

I’ve never played any incarnation of Shadowrun and am only vaguely familiar with the setting, but the classic Fallout-esque interface I’m seeing in the promos, and the fact that it’s set in Seattle, has piqued my interest. I’ll probably buy it tomorrow.

I’m very interested as a huge Shadowrun fan. But I didn’t (and will not) preorder as I’m not a fan of terrible games and have gotten burned too many times in the past. I’m still hopeful - just wary. I never buy without reviews.

So you’d better tell me if it’s good!

I call this Pool of Radiance Syndrome.I’ll avoid the bile-filled story since this isn’t the Pit, and the required curse words haven’t been invented.

So far the reviews have been good (at least all the ones I’ve seen). I’ve been playing it for about an hour and I quite like it. If you like old-school RPGs and specifically the old SNES and Genesis Shadowrun games, I’m betting you’ll like this.

I’m enjoying it. I was hoping that the world would be a little more open - so far the maps have been smaller than even games like Fallout 2. Still, it’s pretty good so far. Very old school.

It also comes with a full story creation utility, so there should be plenty of room for growth.

Just fair warning: when they say the editor isn’t user friendly, they’re right. It has a huge learning curve, especially if you don’t have a programming background. But if you can master it, it’s incredibly powerful and you can do tons of things with it.

(I have not mastered it yet–not even close. But once I play through the adventure I plan to spend some quality time getting to know it so I can create my own stories).

BTW, if I can brag just a little–my very own character, Dr. Stone, is an NPC in the game–you can hire him as a runner. I haven’t gotten that far yet, but my friend who’s played the whole thing confirms that he’s in there.

Did he get an early copy? The game’s only been out for three hours on Steam.

Yep, he was in the beta test.

Cool. Was worried that the campaign was awfully short.

I’ve heard it runs 12-15 hours for the first campaign, but I know there are groups already hard at work making new content, and Harebrained is working on the Berlin campaign. So there’ll definitely be new stuff to do soon!

I used to be friends with one of the producers on the PoR remake. It was kind of our personal Godwin - if I was losing an argument with him, I’d just say, “Reformats your hard drive on uninstall,” and he’d immediately fold.

When you are done creating your own content be sure to link in here. I’m interested in playing them!

Damn bastards! Bringing it out now? I have a drive full of new steam games from the sale.

I’ve been waiting on this, kind of - Didn’t want to read anything for fear of spoilage, didn’t want to expect too much for I been burned before… But Dopers, how is it, really ?

Just tried out the tutorial bit, so far so goooooooooooood.

XCOM: Enemy Unknown combat in cyberpunk setting, works for me. Shame it uses save points though.

And according to some the save point system is…not good.

I’m a couple of hours into the game, and so far I haven’t really seen a problem with the save system. Might be more of an issue later as things get harder, but so far it’s been fine.

The game is good. The classes are varied and fun. Atmosphere is spot on.

But the save points are not frequent enough. It is also very linear.
